MARINE BIOLOGY MR.

ECCLES Room 316

Email: seccles@muhsd.org
Welcome to MARINE BIOLOGY at Merced High School.
Marine Biology is a dynamic field in this day and age.
Recently there has been an increased interest in the world’s
oceans as a vital source of food, minerals, gasses,
recreation, transportation, climate regulation, and as a
dumping ground for the massive amount of human waste
products. Marine life is important to all life, and studying the
variety of complex organisms and ecosystems has become a
complicated and varied field of study. The taxonomy and
ecology of our oceans is far from fully studied and
understood, but recently many new discoveries of organisms
and ecosystems, especially of deep sea creatures, is
furthering our knowledge in many fields such as medicine
and technology. The usefulness of this course extends
beyond the realm of just science and the classroom, being
linked to solutions for the health and future of our planet.
