Jan Mills was born in Hoxie, Kansas in 1952. She received a bachelor’s degree from
Iowa State University. She worked for over 20 years at Purdue as a research technician
in the department of life sciences, leaving this post when she won the mayoral election
in 2003. She has been married to her husband, Scott, for 35 years. They have one son
together, Christopher, and a grandson, Henry. Mills is finishing her first term as mayor of
West Lafayette. She also holds the position of chair for the Indiana Association of Cities
and Towns, Environmental Committee.

John Dennis is the Republican candidate running for mayor of West Lafayette, Indiana. He
grew up here and even is a graduate of West Lafayette High School. He went on to Indiana
State University to complete his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He is also a graduate of the
Northwestern University Public Safety School and the FBI National Academy. Currently,
John Dennis is the Deputy Chief of the Lafayette Police Department (a 22-year veteran).
He has served on the Lafayette Finance Committee for the last six years. He is also a board
member for the Tippecanoe Country Red Cross, Sycamore Girl Scouts, and Crisis Center.
