Attendance Basics: Policies and Procedures


Recording attendance is an important part of being a Caretaker or Learning Coach, and we hope
this information will help you to easily perform this responsibility. You can also read more about
Nevada Connections Academy’s attendance requirements and get a list of scheduled vacation
days in the NCA School-Specific Handbook, and view your Learning Coach Orientation for
instructions on how to take attendance, in the Virtual Library.

1. Requirements
a. Caretakers and Learning Coaches must enter attendance daily
b. Students must meet the weekly attendance requirements for their grade level

Grade level(s) Required Hours

Grades K-2 20
Grades 3-6 25
Grades 7-12 27.5

c. Attendance entered must be supported by lesson and assessment completion


d. If your student is short attendance hours, or there is a concern that your student is
not doing enough lessons or assessments compared to attendance, you should
expect a WebMail from your student’s Homeroom/Advisory Teacher

2. How to log attendance


a. Log into your Connexus account and under your To Do List click “Record
attendance”
b. Enter a full number for the hours your student worked on the day they worked
c. Click Save
d. Do not enter 0s on the weekend

3. What counts as Attendance time?


a. Lessons and Assessments
b. Offline assignments
c. Physical activity for PE
d. LiveLessons®
e. State Testing
f. School-sanctioned activities, such as field trips and tutoring

4. Excused Absences
a. If your student needs an excused absence on a regularly scheduled school day,
contact your Homeroom/Advisory Teacher immediately by WebMail or phone to
notify them
b. Enter an “E” for your student’s attendance on the day affected
c. Excused absences for 3 or more consecutive days must have supporting
documentation submitted within 5 school days, or they will be changed to “U” for
Unexcused
i. Please contact your Homeroom/Advisory Teacher, or the local office, if
you are not sure what documentation may be needed
ii. Excessive unexcused absences can be considered truancy, and may result
in disciplinary action
d. Do not enter “E”s on the weekend

5. Vacation Days
a. You are allotted a certain number of vacation days each year to cover all school
scheduled days off
b. The number of vacation days your student has is based on when they enrolled in
the school year
c. You can track your student’s vacation days by logging into your account, clicking
on your student’s data view , and selecting Student Vacation Days Tracking
d. Enter a “V” on school scheduled vacation days if your student did not complete
work on that day
e. Do not enter “V”s on the weekend
f. If you use a “V” outside of a school scheduled day off, notify your student’s
Homeroom/Advisory Teacher via WebMail or phone
g. To avoid going into alarm for too many vacation days, your student will need to
make up the hours during a scheduled school day off

6. Special Circumstances
a. If there are any special circumstances that may affect your student’s attendance or
performance, please contact your student’s Homeroom/Advisory Teacher
immediately to let them know. We want to make sure your student has the support
they need in order to have a positive and successful school year.
b. If your student is working ahead, completes courses before the end of the
semester, or has a reduced course schedule, please work with your
Homeroom/Advisory Teacher to make sure attendance is correct. There may be
modifications based on your situation.
