Social Events
13-24 August 2018
A special programme of social events and activities has been organised
for all members of the course. A brief description of each
event is enclosed. All events will take place outside class
hours. You are not forced to join in all the events, of
course. However, we strongly encourage you to join as
many as you can, since this is a wonderful opportunity to
visit some beautiful places in and around London and you
will also have a chance to get seats for some of London's
top shows!

The price of tickets quoted in this brochure is subject to availability. Since

numbers are likely to be limited, they will be allocated on a ‘first come, first
served” basis. Payment should be made either by debit or credit card.
We regret that cash is not accepted. We will not process any payment for
tickets that are not available and you will only be charged for tickets that are
guaranteed. If you are interested in any of the events, it is recommended
that you complete and return the enclosed booking form as soon as possible
to avoid any disappointment.

For travel around London, we highly recommend that you arrange to get an
Oyster Card (since ticket machines are no longer available at bus stops). You
can buy Oyster Cards from any underground tube station or buy online, as
these will provide you with the cheapest single fare. Information about Oyster
Cards can be found here on the Transport for London (tfl) website:

As You Like It
Shakespeare Globe Theatre

Rosalind, the daughter of an unjustly

exiled duke, fails in love with the
wronged Orlando, a courtier deprived
of his birthright by his brother – but her usurping uncle, jealous of her
popularity, banishes her from court. Disguised as a boy and accompanied
by her cousin Celia, she seeks out her father and his friends in the Forest
of Arden.
There she meets Orlando again and, under the guise of a young man,
counsels him in the art of love. A firm favourite among Shakespeare’s
comedies, and featuring some of his best-loved characters, As You Like It
runs the glorious gamut of pastoral romance: cross-dressing and brilliant
conversation, gentle satire, forgiveness and reparation.
