Using the Kindle Keyboard's accessibility

features
This guide gives simple instructions for turning on and using the
various accessibility features within the Kindle Keyboard ereader.

Sighted assistance may be needed to initially locate various keys


on the keyboard.

Turning on spoken menus (VoiceGuide)


 Press 'Shift' which is the bottom left key and 'space bar' which is
the long key in bottom row, simultaneously.
 There is no indication that the speech has turned on until you
start to navigate the device.

Turning on text to speech


 Press 'home', on the bottom row, second key from the right.
 Select an item to read from your library list and open it.
 There are then two ways of turning on the speech. Whichever
you use will need repeating each time you open a book:
1) Press 'shift' and 'Sym' together. Shift is the bottom left key
and Sym is one key to the right of the spacebar, one key up and
then one to the right again.
2) Press 'AA', to the right of the large space bar button on the
bottom row. With Voice Guide on, the device will say 'page
preferences'. Move down 4 times to 'text to speech turn on', and
select it.

Pausing text to speech


 Press the space bar
 To restart the speech, press the space bar again

Controlling text to speech volume
The volume switch is located on the bottom edge of the device at
the far left. It is a rocker switch that can increase and decrease the
volume.

Changing voice male to female


 With the text to speech turned on, press 'AA'
 Move down twice and 'speaking voice' will be read out as well
as male or female.
 Use the left and right keys to change to the alternative and
select

Changing text to speech speed


 With the text to speech turned on press 'AA'
 Move down once and 'speech rate' plus the current speed will
be read out
 Use the left and right keys to change from or to 'slower', 'default'
or 'faster' and select

Changing text size


 Press 'home'
 Select an item to read from your library list and open it
 Press 'AA'
 Use the left and right keys to change font size and select
