To whom it may concern:

This is a letter to express my interest in your school as an educator in the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. As
a soon-to-be graduate from Arkansas State University, I have been considering applying to several schools. I
have learned that the mission of the school is to provide quality education in a functional, safe environment
for all school age children within the community. That is precisely what I plan to do as a teacher. My overall
goal is to provide a safe, fun, and interactive learning environment that not only meets school and state
standards, but engages the students in a new way of learning.

As a non-traditional educator, I have had the opportunity to focus on content knowledge on the subjects of
Biology, Anatomy, and Chemistry. Although I have not have not had much experience in pedagogical
education, I am willing to pursue more education and mentorship to exceed expectations. With that being
said, I have taken advantage of elective courses that have allowed for me to take courses in special education
and pedagogy to help gain experience in classroom matters before initially beginning my teaching career.

To add, I have begun learning to understand and utilize the Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS) for the
upcoming year. As a big fan of the NGSS, I plan on placing a focus on hands-on learning in the science
classroom and tapping into the students’ engineering and technological backgrounds. As a biology student,
understanding crosscutting, technology, and engineering concepts are vital components to my profession. I
have had experience in the laboratories at Arkansas State University and I hope to allow for more hands-on
learning for my future students. With that being said, these extensive skills that I have complied during my
education will be beneficial in adapting to the new generation of standards for the upcoming year.

In addition to my determination and passion for the field of science, I have been granted several leadership
roles at Arkansas State University. As one of the founding members to reinstate the ASU Women in Science
Club, I have organized club functions, fundraising, and school outreach projects while serving as the president
for the past 3 years. I was also involved with the College of Science & Mathematics Leadership Council for the
past 3 years working on new objectives and guidelines that clubs must meet.

I have had the opportunity to act as the teacher on record at KIPP Blytheville Collegiate High School for the
2017-2018 school year for Biology and Anatomy. This has been an amazing experience for me to learn how to
properly lesson plan, learn classroom management, and get a firsthand experience as a teacher while
completing my degree. In my time at KIPP I have learned discipline, structure, and most of all patience working
with the 9th-12th grade students in the STEM classes. I hope to take my newly found knowledge to your school
to add fresh ideas and methods for both classroom management and curriculum. In this position, I create my
own lesson plans and curriculum based on Arkansas State Standards. All in all, I have learned so much from my
first year teaching and I hope to gain even more knowledge with your school district.

I have passed my content courses in Biology and Chemistry and will no longer have any additional courses on
campus. I have also completed my Associates of Science degree at Arkansas State University and will complete
my Bachelors of Science on December 8th , 2018. Most importantly, I have completed and passed my Biology
Content Praxis II (Score: 153) and I plan on becoming certified in Chemistry and Earth Science so that I can
become a more well-rounded science educator. I am extremely confident that I will do rather well on these
exams and in my last few courses. I am willing to pursue any additional coursework or training in order to
become qualified for this position. I am planning on applying to the 2018 APPEL Program in order to begin my
process of certification by Arkansas. I understand the uncertainty about hiring a non-licensed teacher,
however let me assure you, I am very dedicated to this profession and very knowledgeable in my content field.
I plan on completing all the state requirements in this next year to reach full licensure.

Even though I will be a second year teacher with much to learn, I plan on making my students my first priority.
Teaching is my passion, and education is my way of sharing that passion with future generations. I would like
to attach with this letter my resume, which shall provide more details of my qualification and background.

If additional information or documents are needed, feel free to contact me anytime at (870)-206-4333 or
e.prather12@gmail.com. Thank you very much for your time and consideration and I am looking forward to
meeting with you soon.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Prather
