COURSE OUTLINE:
This class is an introduction to the visual arts program at WHS. In this course, you will be exposed to a variety
of different techniques and mediums. You will learn to think creatively, problem solve, and appreciate the art
that surrounds us. The units we will be covering include the following:

-Contour line -Ceramics


-Value -Multimedia
-Figure Drawing -Acrylic Paint
-Watercolor -Sculpture

You will also be responsible to complete sketchbook assignments throughout the semester.

SUPPLIES:
There is a $10 fee. This fee will cover materials that you will receive during the year.

A pencil, paper/sketchbook, and folder should be brought to class every day. This will be used for taking notes
and designing projects.

HOMEWORK:
Students will have a 6 sketchbook assignments throughout the semester. Each sketchbook should take at
least one hour to complete.

Projects that are not completed in class by the due date must be completed outside of class.

EVALUATION:
The class is divided into 4 sections:
1. Sketchbook assignments
2. Readings and in class work
3. Projects
4. Quizzes/Tests

Each major project is graded in 5 categories:


-Ideation (20%)
-Complexity/Effort (20%)
-Creativity/Originality (20%)
-Craftsmanship/Skill (20%)
-Reflection (20%)

Upon completing a project, the student will evaluate their own work and reflect by answering follow-up
questions.
C L A S S R O O M E X P E C T A T I O N S:

- Class begins when the bell rings. Students should be in their seats at the start of class ready to work. If
you arrive early, you may begin gathering your supplies until class starts.

- Please use the bathroom before you arrive. We need all the time we can get to create the best possible
art.

- We will be working on art the entire class period! You may not clean up until 5 min before the bell rings.

- When the teacher is talking, no one else should be talking.

- Every project has a due date. If the project is not turned in on that day, your grade will decrease by 10%
each day it is late.

- If you need more time on a project, you must make arrangements with the teacher prior to the due date.

- Classroom materials and equipment are shared and need to be taken care of with the utmost respect. If
you are misusing materials, you will be charged for new materials.

- Cell phones should be put away during class unless you have been given permission to have it
out.Check the board for the day’s cell phone policy.

- If you are absent, you are responsible for to find out what you missed. If your absence is excused, you
will be given additional time to complete assignments you missed or turn in work. If your absence is
unexcused, you will not be granted any extensions.

- Keep ALL your projects, handouts, sketches, etc.

- All class information can be found on Canvas
