Physical Education, Issues Analysis

Purpose: To produce an investigative analysis of a current issues in the area of physical

activity and healthy lifestyles.

Description of Assessment: With reference to research, discussions, class theory, primary

and secondary sources and individual work, students define a contemporary issue related to
physical activity and formulate a discussion/debate.

Students have a choice of the following current issues to discuss:

 The processed food we eat is killing us.

 There should be a tax on all high sugar foods and drinks.
 A new ‘Australian Guide to Healthy Eating’ needs to be devised to reduce the amount
of carbohydrates eaten.

Students are to refer to the rubric provided to identify the performance standards they
need to demonstrate to reach their highest possible level of achievement

A new ‘Australian Guide to Healthy Eating’ needs to be devised to reduce the amount of
carbohydrates eaten.
Due to a change in lifestyles, there is a call for a new ‘Australian Guideline to Healthy
Eating’(AGHE). The ‘AGHE’ chart has been around Australia since 2003, after it took over the
healthy eating pyramid. It was made in order to give Australians advice and encourage them
to have a balanced diet. The guide shows good variations of foods that we should be eating
each day to fuel us, but is it still current? The recent ‘AGHE’ is outdated and needs to be
updated to give people the right guidelines to help their balanced diet, people need to be
motivated more although there is plenty of ways to do that and advertisement needs to be
regained even though there are massive cost effects. Commented [MG1]: Need to be clearer with saying

A new ‘AGHE’ should be produced because the old one is outdated. The old guidelines have is hard to clearly read what is what as the arguments

guidelines say that you should be taking in a lot of carbohydrates but every person is
different and has different needs. Some people are having health issues from taking in too

the ‘AGHE’ should be kept the same. Many people are still looking at the ‘AGHE’ and
following it for their dietary requirements. It is helpful for our everyday lives and gives us a
rough estimate of what we should be taking in to our system. If people are becoming obese
then it is probably their fault for not looking at these guidelines and for just eating what is
bad. ‘The guidelines promote health and wellbeing; reduce the risk of diet-related
conditions, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity; and reduce the risk of
chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some types of cancers.’
(Eat for Health, 2015). Although ‘AGHE’ seems outdated and not used enough, one should
be produced to help people have a balanced diet and a balanced amount of carbohydrates
in their diet.

There should be a new ‘AGHE’ produced to motivate people to become fit have a balanced Commented [MG6]: and
diet. There should be more guidelines that show people the amount of physical activity that
they should be doing. More and more people are getting lazy and some people are just
unsure of the physical activity that they should actually be undergoing. ‘The physical activity
levels of many people, both in Australia and around the world, are less than the optimal
level recommended to gain a health benefit.’ (The Department of Health, 2017). If a new Commented [MG7]: Good supporting evidence to

‘AGHE’ is introduced, then people in this world will know how much exercise is a minimum
to do and will be motivated to do it. ‘As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of
physical activity every day’, (Healthy Lifestyle Fitness, 2016). However, each person is
different and has different needs. Gyms and fitness groups have been advertised to
Australians to get them more involved in physical activities, meaning they will not need to
follow a guideline. In the past 13 years, 1106 fitness centres and gyms have been introduced
into Australia (Statista, 2018). Some people do more exercise then others meaning that they
should be taking in larger amounts of carbohydrates. This means that a new one could show Commented [MG8]: A new what? Refer to it directly
(e.g. a new AGHE, etc)
you how much you require according to the amount of fitness that your body is doing.

Although a new ‘AGHE’ should be produced to motivate people, gyms are a better and more
convenient option. Commented [MG9]: What about people who can’t
afford it?
A new ‘AGHE’ should be looked into as no one looks at the old one anymore. This is because
there are other options to having a balanced diet, eating the right amount of carbohydrates,
eating healthy and becoming fit. The amount of views will increase dramatically as the old
one was produced 15 years ago (Eat for Health, 2015). People would forget that the ‘AGHE’
is not even a thing anymore because you never see anything about it. There should be more
advertisement. If the guidelines are shown on TV, in newspapers, even on Facebook then
more people would be following it and the amount of healthy people would increase.
Creating a new ‘AGHE’ would also be more beneficial for today's population. The new one
could also consist of the exact amounts needed to intake and what foods are best of all
foods. The new guidelines could also show Australia how much carbohydrates roughly each
person needs. It could also show on the guidelines how much water should be drunken daily
and the amount of exercise needed to perform daily. ‘Developing a company image through
advertising allows businesses to develop brand awareness.’ (Chron, 2018). On the other
hand, if a new ‘AGHE’ is produced then people may get confused on what they should
follow. Some people may have been following one for ages and then this new and different
one comes in, they would be unsure. If this happens then people may stop using it all
together. Many people follow other structures as well including their own dietary plans and
fitness structures. There also may be a large cost involved and the manufactures may not be
able to afford this. ‘For local television stations, advertisers can expect to pay anywhere
from $200 to $1500 for a 30-second commercial’ (Aland, 2017). A new ‘AGHE’ should be
produced to increase viewers even though there is a large cost involved and it may not be
effective.

A new ‘AGHE’ should be produced due to change in lifestyles. The current one is outdated
and needs to be improved to give the right guidelines to Australians although people are still
following the old one, people need to be motivated more to watch what their daily intake is
and what physically activities they should be undertaking even though there are heaps of
ways around it now and no one looks at the old one anymore due to other options being
shown to us this being said if a new one is produced it may help but people will get
confused on which to follow. Due to all this research being put together, studies show that if Commented [MG10]: A very long sentence. Try and
split it up next time.
a new ‘AGHE’ is made then Australians may not actually follow it due to the other options
they are given. Following the guidelines may not give Australians the required amount of
carbohydrates that their body needs, therefore not applying correctly to their dietary
requirements.

You make some excited points throughout your assignment. However, next time try to be more clearer with your arguments as some sections
are unclear. Overall, a well-constructed assignment. B+
