Introduction to Cans
Can Rules
Can Parameters
Can Alignment
Cans are placed by rule using the (American Petroleum Institute) API-
RP2A standard
Three types
– Inline Can
– StubEnd Can
– End Can
The user can modify the section size of the tube on each side of the
can independently
Height and length of cans are defined by rules according to size and
location of intersecting members in accordance to API standards
Inline cans automatically resize when end stub end cans are placed
on secondary members
The can rules account for gaps placed between the secondary
members
– See Gap Frame Connections lecture for more info on gap rules
