TEMPORARY EROSION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. The work specified in this Section consists of providing, maintaining and removing temporary erosion
and sedimentation controls, the locations of which are shown on the Drawings.

B. Temporary erosion controls include, but are limited to, temporary mulching and grassing, seeding,
watering, and reseeding on-site surfaces and spoil and borrow area surfaces and providing
interceptor ditches at ends of berms and at those locations which will ensure that erosion during
construction will be maintained within acceptable limits as established by the Engineer and the local
authorities.

C. Temporary sedimentation controls include, but are limited to, silt dams, traps, barriers, and
appurtenances at the foot of sloped surfaces, which will ensure that sedimentation pollution will be
captured prior to entering the existing storm drainage systems, streams or rivers.

D. Provide effective temporary erosion and sediment control measures throughout the entire
construction period.

E. Dust control is also included.

1.02 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

A. All Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinances in force by the Municipality of Dubai.

1.03 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE

A. Site Preparation

B. Earthwork and Grading

C. Filter Fabric

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The Specifications and Drawings are not represented as being comprehensive, but rather convey
the intent to provide complete slope protection and erosion control for both the Employer’s and
adjacent property.

B. Erosion control measures shall be established at the beginning of construction and maintained
during the entire period of construction. On-site areas, which are subject to severe erosion, and off-
site areas which are especially vulnerable to damage from erosion and/or sedimentation, are to be
identified and receive special attention.

C. All land-disturbing activities are to be planned and conducted to minimize the size of the area to be
exposed at any one time, and the length of time of exposure.

D. Surface water runoff originating upgrading of exposed areas should be controlled by the use of
diversion ditches, and/or interceptor dikes, to reduce erosion and sediment loss during the period of
exposure.

E. When the increase in the peak rates and velocity of storm water runoff resulting from a land-
disturbing activity causes accelerated erosion of the receiving stream, provide measures to control
both the velocity and rate of release so as to minimise accelerated erosion and increased
sedimentation of the stream, this may be accomplished through the use of riprap, level spreaders or
other energy dissipation devices.
