Answer all questions
PART-A

1. A boost conveter has Vs=20V,D=0.6,R=12.5 Ω,L=10µH, inductor resistance=


0.1Ω,C=40µF and the switching frequency is 200kHz. Express the output voltage with
and without the inductor internal resistance. (4 Marks)

2. A buck converter has an output voltage of 1 V across 8 Ω resistor. The output voltage
ripple must not exceed 3 percent. The peak to peak variation in inductor current is 0.2A.
Find out the Equivalent series resistance. (3 Marks)

3. How interleaved boost converter is different from ordinary boost converter, explain with
inductor current wave forms. (3 Marks)

4. A buck converter has an input voltage of 12 V and a duty ratio of 0.7. If a switch drop of
0.6V and a diode drop of 0.7 is taken into account, calculate the output voltage. (3 Marks)

PART-B
5. A boost converter has a supply voltage (Vs) of 15 V and operating with a duty ratio of
0.5. The other parameters are Inductance L =150µH, Resistance R =46Ω, capacitance
C=100µF and a switching frequency f=10kHz.
(a) Verify that the inductor current is discontinuous (b) determine the output voltage, and
(c) determine the maximum inductor current. (5 Marks)

6. Describe the operation full bridge DC-DC converter for second and third quadrants.
(5 Marks)
7. Explain Cuk converter operation in detail with diagram. (7 Marks)

PART-C
8. The flyback converter has parameters Vs=4.5V,D=0.6,N1/N2 = 0.4,R=15Ω,Lm=10µH,and
C=10 µF,and the switching frequency is 250kHz. Determine (a) the output voltage (b) the
average, maximum and minimum inductor currents and (c) the output voltage ripple.

9. Derive an expression for the output voltage of a buck-boost converter with R loadwhen
operating in the discontinuous –current mode. (10 Marks)
