PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The main responsibility of the Engineer in Training is to assist in supporting the engineering section with various tasks or
project and to gain as much practical exposure to the operation as possible until s/he is found competent to be appointed as
a Section Engineer.

Assist the Section with various practical tasks


 Assist with supporting the monitoring of materials usage at the Shafts
or Process plants

 Continuously liaise with the Section Engineer on shaft / plant
operations from a practical perspective
 Ensure that safety standards are adhered to at all times
 Assist with monitoring that operating standards and procedures are up
to date
 Assist with the monitoring on the settings of machinery to optimise
performance
 Conduct technical projects with the assistance of the section Engineer
on matters of operational importance
 Assist with monitoring trends in the plant or shaft and compare with
best practices if negative variations are found identify solutions and
present action steps
 Compile accurate technical reports when requested
 Prepare ad-hoc reports for management or other information
customers
 Participate in required meetings
 Follow established procedures for work requirements which fall outside
of the norm
 Assist during breakdowns or emergencies when instructed
 Communicate plant defects to the Section Engineer
 Communicate effectively with Section Engineer
 Assist with monitoring on the effectiveness / problems of the plant or
shaft maintenance system
 Communicate process problems to necessary people

Successful completion of the practical training part of the required


outstanding skills or knowledge of the development plan
 Keep up to date with development plan requirements
 Complete practical assignments
 Liase with ADC and on site HRD department regarding training
progress
 Discuss exposure requirements with Section Engineer
 Provide progress update to all responsible parties on regular basis
