Introduction
Barry’s Beans company is a small company which is known to create their own line of grinds and blends
by importing coffee from numerous coffee producing countries back to Australia to sell to their
customers. In the report, we will be discussing our client “Barry’s Beans” and also the company’s business
state with customer relationship management. Other than setting information on Barry’s beans, we will
also be discussing companies like Barry’s and how big the coffee industry is Globally and, also in
Australia, the differences throughout the years, followed along by the competitions and problems the
industry may face in time. The industry believe that they need to value-add to have a better service in the
coffee industry for their customers. As this report picks out problems and finds solutions for the industry
to be successful, the report will also contain recommendations, benefits, definitions and will also provide
solutions for the business to run successful. By adding information, this benefits us by teaching us not
only about the coffee industry, but many other industries out their facing difficulties and success through
hardships.

6
Industry Background
Barry’s Beans has its head office located in the Suburb of Melton in Melbourne, along with its blending
and packaging roastery. As the head office was located in a suburban area, Barry’s Beans decided to open
a small coffee house located on the ground floor of its head office as this was product promotion for
employees and local resident. Once the coffee house was up and running, it ended up being a huge
success for the company. Following along from this success endeavour, Barry’s Beans has opened up a
coffee house in Melbourne Central Business District, as well as in the CBD of many other Australia
Capitals, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin.
This industry globally includes cafes that serve mainly specialty coffee and food to customers. Coffee
exporting alone is a twenty-billion-dollar industry. The coffee industry globally differs from each year
depending on how many bags have been sold all year round.
Apart from coffee being popular globally, in Australia it has shown that the café’s and coffee shop
industry has grown rapidly over the past 5 years. Despite the strong performance over the past 5 years,
competition plays a big role in this industry as there is a growing number of specialty cafes and coffee
shops. Followed along by 73,000+ employees working as baristas or floor staff and 14,000+ businesses
based on café shops, this shows how fast the industry is growing in Australia.
Apart from the owners, there are two IT specialists and a training officer with high knowledge in
technology. Barry’s Beans commenced in the year 2013, up to 2018 they have recorded a good sales
growth with their business including the ability to afford to hire staff over five years, their total sales and
also sales income. With high numbers that have risen throughout the year, it is shown that Barry’s Beans
grew efficiently. As the company received a good growth as years went by, this gave Barry’s Beans the
opportunity to take over two major competitors in the coffee grinding business and has 15% market
share in Melbourne. Barry’s Beans running a successful business has had an outcome of having three
different streams in the business. These being, the selling and supplying of their coffee, the café outlets
and a coffee machinery and maintenance business.
Barry’s Beans want to be able to incorporate their distribution with their retail. As the coffee life style
grows popular for the community, the management at Barry’s Beans is aware that they need to be more
aware of being much more competitive to keep their business running smoothly. This is by ensuring that
they upgrade their system, adding updated coffee blends, special offers with either coffee or snacks
included at the café and, also loyalty cards for regular customers.

The Meaning of E-Commerce & Barry’s Beans needs

Both Rainer and Prince (2016) define e-commerce as the process of purchasing, selling and exchanging
goods, services and information via computing networks such as the internet. This can be further
expanded upon with the term of e-business which Molla (2001) further goes on to define as e-commerce
with the addition of: servicing customer needs, collaborating business partners and entities as well as the
performance of electronic transactions in an organisation or businesses day to day running.

The client, Barry’s Beans, is seeking an e-commerce system which can consolidate the three streams of
sales the company currently has (selling and distribution of coffee blends, the retail outlet and machinery
selling and maintenance) as well as giving them a competitive edge against other retailers, of which they’d
like to ‘add-value’ to the coffee experience their customers are receiving (by introducing an expansion of
coffee blends as well as membership facilities such as loyalty cards etc.) This is to aid in managing the
customer base as well as preventing customer loss.

In addition to this, the Barry’s Beans sales representatives would like a system which can support them
with dealing with high value and faithful customers, help entice new clientele and allow continuing
support for the beans blend production and machinery stream of the business.

What products and services are being taken online?

By using Neto (Neto, 2017) as the e-commerce provider suggested (Neto360 which combines/offers and
utilizes add-ons); the products and/or services which can be taken online by Barry’s Beans include e-
shopping and e-cart, a degree of marketing options available through Neto as a singular platform as well
as in conjunction with additional purchased plug-ins and add-ons from Neto or independently developed
(to incorporate email-marketing, links to Facebook and ebay as another virtual storefront, promotions
etc) and e-commerce transactions through both Stripe and Paypal for Business to Business (B2B) and
Business to Customer (B2C) transactions.

What will be the main business processes and functions addressed in the recommend e-
commerce system?

Sales and customer service, sales order management, shipping/fulfilment, inventory management,
reporting and analytics. In addition to this whilst many customers and businesses will still visit the
physical shopfront and warehouse located in Melton that requires manual and face to face customer-
service, the e-commerce system of Neto360 is where the Barry’s Beans 3 streams of business will be
consolidated. This will include a range of features such as:

 The managing of stock levels at start of business and end of business daily as well as transactions
made in between; assisting with end-to-end inventory management.
 Ease of entering any new stock or equity brought from other suppliers/shareholders (eg: beans
and machinery etc).
 Process and consolidate orders across the sales channels within the business.
 Automatically calculate and notify staff of stock which must be held before it is required for
any/various store merchandising displays or business to business and/or customer orders as well
as automate the design, documentation and dissemination of the business processes.
 In conjunction with quality control processes verify that the correct goods have been received
and sent.
 Unites an integration function for Barry’s Beans freight partner of choice (AusPost, DHL etc).
 Enables unlimited products to be sold via the e-storefront
 Implement the option of e-marketing and branding as well as optimisation of SEO.

What e-Commerce provider are we recommending and why?

For a business at the stage of growth that Barry’s Beans is currently at with the outlook being on
becoming a high-quality servicer and provider of both retail sales and distribution of goods (retail and
wholesale), the recommendation of e-commerce provider VUIS suggests is Neto360 by Neto.

With the two IT specialists employed by Barry’s Beans who will have the level of advanced IT knowledge
necessary to manipulate, re-design and make necessary changes and additions to the e-commerce
platform, Neto as a provider will allow Barry’s Beans the ability to focus and work to a high degree within

9
both retail and distribution whilst having control over an e-commerce platform which can be tailored
exclusively to their needs as well as future scalability. The platform itself is also has an ease of use that
other employees of Barry’s Beans will be able to be trained on the features and sales process of the e-
commerce platform.

In addition – warehousing supply chain management, shipping and delivery (quotes, click and collect,
labelling and manifesting) as well as sales, sales management, reports, inventory and business analyses can
be utilised as they are incorporated add-on features.

Recommendation 2
Neto is an Australian based company that offers full e-commerce services for new online businesses or
businesses that are looking to expand their online platforms. It is the only Australian retail and wholesale
management platform that provides a complete solution for eCommerce, Point of Sale, Inventory, and
Fulfilment. Neto is also the only platform that fully integrates with Aussie shipping and back office
system for free. ‘Neto is a platform that crosses multiple functional areas required to run a fully
operational eCommerce business without needing external plugins’ (Courteny B, 2017). ‘Neto offer
multiple pricing plans to meet all of our customers’ needs, and unlike others, there are no hidden fees’
(Neto, 2018).
For a business-like Barry’s Beans who's looking to incorporate their distribution with their retail and grow
their retail empire, the recommendation of e-commerce suggested is Neto360 package. Neto360 by Neto
cost $499.00 monthly, it is the most comprehensive plan that Neto offers. In this package, all features are
included. The only feature that is not included is eBay sale channel, and if Barry’s Bean considering
integrating eBay into Neto360 package, this sale channel will add up the cost of the package by
+$49/month.
By having all the features included in the package plan, Barry’s Beans will have all the features they need
to grow their retail empire at the cost of $499.00/month. ‘Support availability is another key area where
this platform excels and by far the best platform for any business considering expanding their market and
presence online’ (Courteny B, 2017).
Neto360 is recommended because it will be beneficial for Barry’s Bean, as it will save time and money, as
the company don’t need to spend time on figuring out which add-on features they need to add into the
package, also each add-on features will increase the amount of money spend on those package plans,
whereas in Neto360 all the features needed are included in the package. It ‘reduces admin time by 75% -
ebay management, stock management, shipping labels etc’ (Anna K, 2017).
By using Neto360, Barry’s Beans will have full access to the HTML, CSS, and JS of their store, making it
easy to customise every aspect of their website and shopping cart (Neto, 2018). Barry’s Beans already
have the advantage of having IT specialists and training officer with advanced IT knowledge, as there will
be no need for employees’ training, which also leads to minimise the cost spending on training their
employees. ‘Neto manages orders from start to completion without having to go through multiple
systems’ (Natalie, 2018), which will make it even easier and more convenient for Barry’s Beans to
implement and continue regardless of extent of scalability.

Recommendation 3
In order to recommend Cloud Computing for our client, regard must be had to our client’s current
commercial status, the threats posed by competitors in the industry and the competitive advantages cloud
computing will bring to our client’s business. It is also vital to consider how cloud computation will make
entries extremely difficult for contemplating entrepreneurs to enter the business.
The implementation of Cloud Computation by Barry Beans will make the business by far different and
better (differentiation) than its competitors. Cloud computing will modernize the computer systems, help
manage the customer base and prevent customer loss of our client.
Definition
Cloud Computing is a special type of computing capable of providing suitable, pay-as-you-go, on-demand
access for a shared pool of multiple customers to a configurable computing resources (Ex: Storage,
networks, servers, application and services) that is easily and rapidly accessed over the internet.

An organisation Information Technology (IT) System is a significant component of its continued existence
and growth. An IT system that is sophisticated, modern, reliable with reasonable cost will be an important
asset to our Client business. It will have the necessary potential of giving competitive advantage to our
clients [coffee] business as opposed to his rivals.
Advantages and Benefits of Clouds
Cloud computing can operate across organisational spectrum, beyond geographical boundaries and
different types of devices. It can be beneficiary for both individuals and organisations. Clouds can increase
the scale and power of an organisational IT System, thereby eliminating administrative problems.
Cloud computation is cost-effective as opposed to the alternative: on-premise IT infrastructure which is
quite expensive to build and run. It will save our client a reasonable amount of money and financially
stronger.

Cloud computing will provide Barry Beans’ employees with positive impact by enabling the company to
provide its employees with all necessary information they require to give our client the requisite advantages
over its commercial rivals.
Cloud computing can make a company to use only the amount of computing resources they actually need
at a given time. Organisations can efficiently scale their operations up and down based on their needs to
accommodate for any change in commercial conditions.
Types of Clouds
There are four different types of cloud computing and they are:
Public Cloud Computing will generate any required additional power quickly and affordably whenever my
client is in need to increase the service needs of their customers.
Private Cloud: Another alternative of cloud computing open to our client is the private cloud which is an
IT infrastructure that can be accessed by only my client or by exclusive group of related Berry Beans
businesses having shared purpose and requirement.
It will provide intranet services for our client within the boundary of his enterprise. Other competing coffee
businesses will not be allowed to share our client private cloud IT services, taking place behind a corporate
firewall. As such, our client will be able to ensure the security of his data and system.
While it is true that the implementation of the private cloud computing system will bring certain qualities
and competitive advantage that are good for our client’s business, it must be said that the level of system
and data management and security it provides at certain level (ex. NSA Private Cloud) are not required by
our client’s business.

12
An example of an organisation requiring private cloud computing IT Infrastructure for system and date
security is the National Security Agency (NSA). On the face, it appears that our client does not need the
level of system and data protection that the NSA has. The Private Cloud has the capacity to be designed to
have a strict security protocols and strong encryption. As such, Private Cloud does seem to be a favourite
cloud computing service best suited for our client’s needs. Further, our client does not need the kind of
tracking capabilities inherent in the NSA Private Cloud Computing IT infrastructure due to its security
significance.
Hybrid Cloud constitute elements of Public and Private Cloud that makes it unique and provides users
with multiple options. Customers may require to maintain some date in a private cloud while storing less
sensitive ones in a public cloud. Hybrid cloud has the potential to meet both needs. It can deliver services
based on security needs.
Vertical Cloud makes it possible to diversify cloud infrastructure and applications for different kinds of
business organisations (ex: construction firms, accountancy, finances and or insurance businesses) thus
erecting a vertical cloud.
While there are four different types of clouds, there are also Three Operational Model Of Cloud
Computing.
1. Infrastructure-as-a-service Model
These are remotely accessible cloud servers, networks and storage capacity.

2. Platform-as-a-service Model
These are models that allows customers to run existing applications and also develop and test new
applications.

3. Software-as-a-service Model
Under this model, vendors provide their customers clouds that are tailored to their needs.

Risk and Disadvantages of Clouds

As much as cloud computing has the potential to generate benefits and advantages to the IT industrial
world at large, it also has a couple of major risks and disadvantages – which includes:
a. Legacy IT System: it is difficult to transfer the so-called “legacy spaghetti” (an accumulation of
diversified hardware operating systems and applications that are bundled together) to the cloud
because they are difficult to untangle and simplify.
b. Unreliable: many argue that cloud computing is not reliable as on-premise IT infrastructure. The
example of Dropbox going offline on multiple occasions seems to confirm such unreliability with
cloud computing.
c. Privacy Issues: the privacy of cloud customers is frequently compromised because providers of
cloud computing do control and monitor their clients’ data; and they do on many occasions
collaborate and reveal data to NSA and other sector of the government.
d. Security and Criminal Risks: access to sensitive data are usually not secured and are susceptible to
online criminals who are likely to illegally retrieve credit cards details as well as social security
numbers.

Cloud Computing will definitely be beneficiary to our Client. It will differentiate our client from other
competitors in the business. It will make our client better than rivals as well as inhibit others from
entering the market. In other words, cloud computing will make it increasingly difficult for potential

13
competitors to enter the market. Finally, cloud computing will bring enormous success to our client’s
business and expand its life span.

Recommendation 4

People:

● What training requirements are needed for the staff?

The staff at Barry’s Beans includes two IT specialist and a training officer with advance IT knowledge, be
that as it may, keeping in mind the end goal to contribute seriously to woo-commerce, so representatives
must progress toward becoming business literate. The training officer can provide basic business literacy
courses. Neto also provides training and support for beginners.

● Who will do the training?

The preparation will be done by the managers in the business due to the fact the will be the ones planning
objectives and without any understanding they will not be able to create the most effective and efficient
objectives, IT representatives because the will be the ones implementing the changes due the
understanding of IT and Job description.

Risk:

● What sorts of risks are likely in rolling out the new eCommerce system?

Online Security: There is an entire scope of security dangers out there to be careful with, including
malware, phishing assaults, hacking and spam mail. To shield against these dangers, ensure that you
refresh your stage's working framework frequently, and utilize a solid SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

Framework Reliability: The Internet service provider (ISP) server could crash, your online instalment
framework could demonstrate blunders and the web based business module could have bugs. But keeping
every single working framework and APIs refreshed, these are only a few things that may occur outside of
our control.

Protection Issues: Customers' own information could be compromised and utilized for spamming, data
fraud and promoting.
Client Disputes: A client may not have gotten their request, their credit card was charged twice, or the
item they got didn't fit the online depiction.
Credit Card Fraud: Someone could utilize a stolen credit card to make an online purchase, or a criminal
could utilize stolen credit information from different clients in your system. No matter how great your
online safety measures are, keep an eye out for any suspicious exchanges.
Rollout:
● How will the system be rolled out; big bang, phased or pilot?

There is three different ways the system to implement the system in this case Barry’s Beans, Neto will be
rolled out with phased because the e-commerce system would be easier to test and less likely to have
defaults. [Panorama Consulting Solutions. 2018. ERP Rollout Strategy: Big Bangs and Phases - ERP
Implementation.]

● What is the length of time for the roll-out from start to finish?

14
The length of time for the Neto role out at Barry’s Beans from start to finish will be 1 month to have full
100% capable e-commerce because the company will need to include the data/information of all retail
stores and the selling and distribution of coffee blends and the selling and maintenance of coffee
machinery.

● Which internal staff will be involved in the rollout?

The managing staff of Barry’s Beans will set objectives for the IT skilled workers to commence.

Security:

● What are the top three security issues that need to be considered in implementing the eComm
systems?

- Unauthorized disclosure is the correspondence or physical exchange of classified or controlled

unclassified data to an unapproved beneficiary.

15
- Fraud is when a customer pays for a product illegally by using stolen payment information.
- Data alteration occur when someone makes unauthorized changes to code or data, attacking its
integrity.

● How will be security issues be managed?

- Unauthorised disclosure can be avoided with strict access to data and expanded security
additional have in place a protocol for when this happens.
- Fraud security issues can managed by closely evaluating any suspicious purchases, when any are
considered to be over suspicious cancel or ask for valid identification.
- Data Alteration can be avoided by the implementation of a cryptographic hash. The data can be
recorded before it is altered and safety store the hash then occasionally re-check the data and
compare it to the stored hash. The hash algorithm recommended is SHA 2.

Other Recommendations
Other recommendations of which have been looked into yet have been given less of a preference over
Neto after looking into their features, abilities and capabilities include; Magneto (https://magento.com/)
a large e-commerce platform which allows for incorporation of all the streams which Barry’s Beans is
wanting to consolidate and Zen-Cart (https://www.zen-cart.com/) which is a semi-open source e-
commerce platform which is highly interchangeable and customisable yet unlike woo-commerce, not free.

Conclusion
Overall, Barry Bean’s recommends the operation customer relationship management system which would
be best suited for the company’s growth and major expansion in their movement of coffee blends would
be best accompanied by Neto360 by Neto as the suggested e-commerce provider. Neto360 has
showcased a range of features and benefits that can improve Barry Bean’s customer experience without
losing any potential customers while aiding them to provide an improved high quality service and
provider of both retail and wholesale goods. By introducing this new platform it would help them provide
a better service compared to competitors.
