Q2. Explain the differences between external and internal
customer and give examples for both of them from
construction industry.

• Internal Customer: Employees inside an organization play

three roles; supplier, processor and customer, where each
employee receives something, process it and pass it further
to someone else. The successor employee is an internal
customer to his predecessors such as the wall plastering
worker is and internal customer for wall builder.

 External Customer: they are the end user of the product

Q3. As a customer determine the customer requirements in the
windows’ system that will be erected in your apartment
(determine at least 6 requirements). Then determine design
requirements (at least 6 items) in the windows’ system as an
engineer. Develop the relationship matrix of House of Quality
that relates the Voice of the Engineer to the Voice of the
Customer in this case.

Q4. Explain the differences between chance causes and the
assignable causes of quality variation.

- Chance causes (background noise) are those effects that

cannot be avoided during manufacturing process and they
have minor effects on the product quality (within quality
tolerance). Normally those effects influence the product by
increasing or decreasing its characteristics from the
standard. Those effects are the reason of that points of
control chart are located around the center line.
- Assignable causes are those effects that have huge influence
on the product quality and they are the reason that the
process may be out of control.

10/11

Q5. Draw a chart showing control chart and explain how to use
it for quality control.

A point that plots outside of the control limits is interpreted as

evidence that the process is out of control, and investigation
and corrective action are required to find and eliminate the
assignable cause or causes responsible for this behaviour.
