DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

PLACEMENT BROCHURE
2018-19

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIRUPATI

ABOUT
THE INSTITUTE
The Indian Institute of Technology at Tirupati was
announced in 2014 by the Government of India
along with five other 3rd generation IITs. The
Institute was up and running to welcome its first
batch of undergraduates in four core branches of
engineering in August 2015. The Institute has
since developed an environment that fosters
innovation, curiosity and creativity, with emphasis
on knowledge of theory and strong fundamentals
through practical work and projects. To further
focus on research, IIT Tirupati has started
admitting students to its MS (Research) and PhD
programmes. An Institute of national importance,
IIT Tirupati has shown potential to grow into an
academic and research Institute of great repute.

Alongside academics, importance has been given

to social service, especially on how one may
use technology to better lives. There are also
various clubs at the Institute to cater to the extra
curricular interests of students. Students, even in
the nascent stages of the Institute, have
participated in Inter IIT Technical, Cultural and
Sports Meet. This has given them the opportunity
to interact with and compete against the brightest
minds of the nation, and has pushed them to
perform better every year.
MESSAGE FROM
DIRECTOR’S Desk

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati was established in 2015 as

one of the six third-generation IITs. The Government of Andhra
Pradesh has given 530 acres of land for setting up the permanent
campus. Currently, IIT Tirupati is functioning from a temporary
campus. The master plan for the permanent campus that will
cater to 12,000 students has been finalized. The construction of
the campus at that site is underway and it will be partly
operational from 2018 academic session. By 2024, the Institute
is expected to have about 2500 students and 200 faculty
members in 11 departments.

The B. Tech programs started with 30 students each in four

engineering disciplines namely Civil, Computer Science, Electrical
and Mechanical. Subsequently, the Institute started M.S, M. Tech
and Ph. D programs. This year, the intake in B. Tech program is
increased to 180 students with the start of the Chemical
Engineering program. Since the Institute is mentored by IIT
Madras, the students had the opportunity to be taught by senior
IITM faculty along with newly joined IIT Tirupati faculty. The
Institute provides an environment that fosters curiosity and
creativity within and beyond the classroom. With strong emphasis
on theory and fundamentals, the students have participated in
various technical events around the country like Smart India
Hackathon and Inter IIT Tech meet. Along with academics, we
encourage our students to participate in extracurricular activities
as well. The students actively participate in numerous clubs such as
astronomy, music, social outreach, etc. Being the first batch, the
students have taken up excellent initiatives to set up the sports and
cultural events on the campus that have helped the students to
hone collective responsibility skills and leadership qualities. We are
extremely proud of our student’s performance in the last inter-IIT
sports and cultural events.

Along with young and dynamic faculty who have joined after
completing their doctoral programs and postdoctoral training from
top Universities/Institutes across the world, IIT Tirupati has several
senior faculty from other established IITs. Being energetic they have
established their latest world-class research programs at IIT
Tirupati. This has given the students an opportunity to get involved
in these top-notch research initiatives. Students are also actively
involved in research opportunities outside IIT Tirupati. As part of
their curriculum, the graduating batch completed their summer
internship between May and July 2018 in top class companies. The
students actively participated in driving the summer internship
process which ensured 100% of them secured internships. This
internship experience has provided them with an opportunity to
connect the classroom knowledge with its real-world applications.

Being a new Institute, IIT Tirupati is nimble and aggressively

pursuing opportunities to collaborate with leading Indian & multi-
national companies, public sector organizations, financial
institutions and others. We highly value our partnership with the
Industry and remain committed to making your recruiting
experience with IIT Tirupati productive and positive. I cordially invite
you to IIT Tirupati for the on-campus placement process.

getting a degree. They provide a perfect chance for students to apply their
classroom knowledge to the field, while learning new skills on job and recognizing
and working on their weaknesses.
Through an internship, students solidify their career goals and develop an
understanding on the type of working environment, field, and industry they prefer
and obtain job-related skills and experiences that will enhance their qualifications
for future opportunities.
It forms a bridge between the graduating students and the industry seeking them.
Research internships under mentors at various companies or institutes are also
