Open House Guidelines 2018 ‐2019

Thursday, August 23rd
□ During 1A:
o Distribute a blank Open House Flyer and a blank Student Schedule Form to each
student in your class.
o Instruct students to fill in their 1A teacher’s name and room number on the Open
House Flyer and take it home to their parents.
o Instruct students to fill out their complete schedule on the blank Student Schedule
Form. Collect these forms and place them in the attached colored folder. They
will be picked up at 9:30.
□ During your planning period:
o Think about what you will say to parents. Plan to briefly discuss your course
content, grading policies, ways students can obtain help, and how you can be
contacted. Open House rotations will only be 7 minutes, so be brief.
o Make sure that your room is neat, clean, and inviting. It should reflect your
subject matter, and what you plan to do this year.
o Bulletin boards should be updated with work samples, if possible, including
grading rubrics and meaningful teacher’s comments. Remove student names.
o Make sure that you have a few paper copies of your syllabus to distribute to
parents who may want them at Open House.
Monday, August 27th

teacher’s sign‐in area.

like.
□ At 5:55, Dr. Lyles will welcome parents in the cafeteria.
□ At 6:05, parents will be released. Please be at your door to welcome them.
□ Be at your door whenever possible to help parents find classrooms, and to ensure
that they feel welcome. Smile!
□ Parents will spend 7 minutes in your classroom. When an announcement is made,
they should move to the next class.
