Year 9 French Summer Examination Revision Sheet

Section 1: Listening

The listening section consists of 6 questions (30 marks total) and will include
vocabulary relating to the following areas:

• Daily routine and reflexive verbs Métro Unit 1


• Vocabulary to describe a town. Métro page 22
• Places in town Métro page 58
• Free time and hobbies Métro Unit 3
• Expressions of frequency (quelquefois, souvent, jamais etc).
• Professions and places of work. Métro pages 24, 25, 40
• Directions Métro pages 46-47
• Characteristics Métro page 95
• Modes of transport (Covered in Years 7 and 8)
• Family members (Covered in Years 7)
• Time (Covered in Years 7)
• Illness (Covered in Years 8)

Section 2: Reading

The Reading section consists of 5 questions (40 marks total) with vocabulary relating
to the following area:

• Physical description (covered in years 7 and 8).


• Leisure activities (see above).
• Household chores. Métro pages 29 and 41
• Clothes and pocket money. Métro pages 78-81, and pages 94-95
• Leisure activities (To include expressions with faire du/de la/de l’, and
expressions with Jouer au). Métro page 23
• Prepositions, directions, places in town (see above)
• Description of house Métro page 40
• Professions (see above)

The final question will consist of a lengthy passage in French, with detailed questions
IN ENGLISH, to be answered IN ENGLISH. This question alone will carry a total of
20 marks.

Section 3: Writing

1. The first section of the writing paper will consist of 5 detailed sentences to
translate from English to French, and will incorporate ALL areas of grammar covered
this academic year – including negatives on page 61.

2. Section 2 will require pupils to write approx 80 words IN FRENCH. Pupils will
have a choice between 2 tasks, and the following tenses will be required:
• Present tense
• Perfect tense ie. passé-composé (eg: Je suis allé(e) au cinéma/J’ai fait mes
devoirs).
• Near future ie. Aller+infinitive. (eg: Je vais faire mes devoirs)
• Imperfect (was/were doing eg: Quand j’étais petit(e)…).
• Key verbs: s’amuser, se balader, rigoler, déménager, pleurer, manquer,
pleuvoir.
The following vocabulary will be required:
• Famille Métro page 40
• Personal description and description of others (see above for page references).
• A la maison and household tasks. Métro page 29
• Garder la forme. Métro pages 60-69, pages 76-77
• All free time leisure activities, hobbies and sport (see above for page
references).
• Les vêtements et la mode (including opinions) Métro pages 78-83
