PLAKABOX

REINFORCEMENT CONTINUITY SYSTEM

REINFORCEMENT CONTINUITY SYSTEM

Due to the exclusive profile, specially designed to anchor itself in the concrete, the PLAKABOX is the only rebar
casing capable of making an anchoring which can transfer significant forces around the structural joints.

1. The external dovetail shape guarantees a tongue and groove

connection between the two concreting phases.
2. The double internal dovetail shape fixes the profile in the concrete
and limits the width of cracks caused by shrinkage. Only the Plakabox
can improve the water-tightness of the structural joint.
3. The diamond shaped pattern on the surface of the casing improves
the bond and allows the transfer of shear forces.
4. The corrugated edges on the sides prevent displacement of the
casing when the lid is removed, improving the quality of the
anchoring.
5. Avoid injuries by corrugated edges.
6. The cardboard lid is easy to remove under all conditions because of
the double longitudinal perforations present.
7. The polystyrene inserts, perfectly adapted to the shape of the
casing, prevent the penetration of cement slurry along the sides of the
casing.
8. Environmentally friendly.
9. Sustainable as the covers could easily be recycled as paper.
10. Save costs as formwork could be reused.

Instructions for use

1. Check that the chosen dimensions of the Plakabox

correspond with the required concrete cover of the
second concreting phase. Ensure that the polystyrene
inserts are in place at both ends of the casing.
2. Fix the Plakabox to the formwork and to the
reinforcements as well if required. Make sure there is
no gap between Plakabox and formwork.
3. Cast the concrete in the first phase.
4. Remove the cardboard lid and the polystyrene inserts
after removing the formwork.
5. Check that the stirrups are completely clean.
6. Bend the bars out. It is advisable to use a bending
tool to avoid distortion of a bayonet.

The Plakabox can cope with a curve because of the

Centering the Plakabox saw cuts on the sides of the casing.

Obviously the starter bars may not be cut or

damaged.

The openings in the casing must be carefully

sealed before the concrete is cast.

The only rebar casing which can realize a tongue and groove
connection between the two concreting phases.

A type of Plakabox with stirrups bent in the casing can be used to produce a
reinforced concrete corbel. The stirrups can be bent in accordance with the
models D4, D6 and D7 below.

You must provide the size of the concrete corbel and the concrete
sizes in the 1st phase when ordering, as well as the concrete cover.

Spacers

Spacers are available to guarantee good stability

of the unit and to prevent shifting in the
formwork.

The length of the spacers must be 20mm less

than the thickness of the wall

Fixings
 The Plakabox is nailed to wooden formwork or tied to the
reinforcing.
 The Plakabox is fixed with magnetic blocks and tied to the
reinforcing or a spacer is used in metal formwork.

Magnetic blocks
Type 45 for Plakabox 45 & 60
Type 90 for Plakabox 90 & 120

The magnetic blocks are made from a synthetic resin in which non-
removable ferrite is incorporated.

The blocks are placed at each end of the Plakabox next to the
polystyrene inserts (do not remove the inserts).

Use of a spacer is necessary when the Plakabox is positioned

horizontally.

The magnetic blocks are easily recovered when the formwork is

removed.

ANCON KSN ANCHORS

Ancon KSN Anchors, in combination with BT parallel-threaded

reinforcing bars, simplify concrete slab-to-wall construction joints
when compared to traditional methods. This quicker, easier and
above all, safer operation, eliminates the need for on-site bar
straightening and the drilling of formwork or concrete. The
system replaces cogged or hooked bar ends, thereby simplifying
bar scheduling and minimizing congestion in the wall.

System Components
KSN Anchor

The KSN Anchor is machined from tough, high

reliability, hot forged Cr-Mo alloy steel, with
minimum 15% elongation, to form a blank that
is subsequently hot forged to form the head.
There are eight anchors in the KSN range to
suit the requirements of most applications.

Minimum Wall Thickness KSN Threaded Anchor Dimensions

Note. Wall thicknesses of less than 200mm

are possible, but cannot be used with the
enhanced loads available in slab/wall moment
connections due to the limited moment
capacity of the walls. The minimum wall
thickness for KSN12S, KSN16S and KSN20S
used in direct tension are 150mm, 160mm
and 180mm respectively, for anchors cast
flush with the face of the concrete.

Embedment Depth

By increasing the embedment depth, the capacity of the KSN Anchor can be
improved. The following tables provide the tensile characteristic loads for the four
installation methods shown on pages 6 and 7. Bold figures indicate performance
equal to or greater than reinforcement design resistance load NRd,s, where NRd,s =
Nks x 0.8. If a ductile behaviour is required but the anchor arrangement does not
provide a ductile failure mode, such behavior can be obtained with some
additional reinforcement.
