A patient presented with difficulty breathing due to coughing. The nursing diagnosis was impaired gas exchange related to a collection of secretions in the lungs from pneumonia. Pneumonia is an excessive fluid in the lungs caused by an inflammatory response triggered by infectious organisms. The goal was for the patient to achieve timely resolution of the current infection without complications through nursing interventions like monitoring vital signs, suctioning, and nebulizer treatments within 4 hours. Isolating the patient and administering ordered medications would help dependent interventions. Evaluation would include signs of improvement in 24-48 hours.
