Background of the Study

Tardiness is hobby for some students, especially for those who are dealing
with it. This kind of habit is very wrong for it could create serious problem. According to
Calderella (2011), arriving late to school, students miss out an important activities and their teacher
can become frustrated because disruption in instruction. It is a learning concerns, which covers a
lot of factors.
Some of them attended their class schedule not on time. They all have their
own reasons such as household distance, waking up late or sometimes illness. Interestingly, most
students who arrive late for classes are just living near the school. Habitual tardiness could lead to
several teaching learning issues.
Classes are usually disturbed, teaching discussion are disrupted whenever a
late students enters the classroom. Based on the study of Norman (2017), tardiness affects not only
on your child’s attendance record and ability to learn, but it also impacts the school environment
and you. Being late to school can lead to legal problems for you and your child and it also interrupts
other students learning. For this, there is a need to address the issue on student’s tardiness, by
initially looking at some of the factors that affect such behavior and identifying possible
interventions to minimize the number of tardy students.
Statement of the Problem

(The Ideal)
This study is intended to identify “The Effect of Tardiness of Students during Classes”.

(The Reality)

1.) What is the profile of students in terms of;

a.) Sex
b.) Specialization
2.) What are the factors that affect student’s habitual tardiness?
3.) How do teachers addressed in dealing students habitual tardiness?

(The Consequences)
What intervention strategies can be proposed to avoid the tardiness during classes?
Definition of Terms

For better understanding of the study. The following keyword are defined conceptually.

Attendance. It means the action or state of going regularly by being present of an authority, place
or event (Wikipedia, 2017). In this study, this refers to the presence of the student during classes.

Habitual. It defines as having the nature of habit or inherent in an individual (Merriam, 2017). It
is the number of times a behavior is observed.

Tardiness. It is delayed beyond the expected or proper time (Merriam, 2017). In this study, it refers
to the instances of student’s coming to school late.

Behavior. It means an intensive analysis of an individual unit stressing development factors in

relation to environment (Merriam, 2017). It describes student’s action.

Awareness. It is having or showing realization, perception and knowledge or vigilance in

observing alertness in drawing inferences from what one experiences (Merriam, 2017). In this
study, it describes students’ knowledge or idea of school policy on attendance.
Scope and Delimitation

The study attempts to formulate intervention strategies for students who are habitually
tardy. This study will also emphasize the needs to address habitual tardiness among Grade 12 TVL
students in Bulusan National High School enrolled during the school year of 2017-2018.

The study focuses on preventing tardiness among Grade 12 TVL students in Bulusan
National High School. This study covers ways and changes that students could learn and follow to
minimize the number of tardy students. This will also identify how class advisers address student’s
habitual tardiness.
Significance of the Study

The findings of this study are deemed significant to the following beneficiaries:

Students. The results of this study will help the students to manage their time properly, to
avoid being late and prevent disrupting classes.

Teachers. This study will be useful for teachers in coming up with feasible intervention to
address case of students’ habitual tardiness in their class.

School Administrators. The result of this study, could serve as bases for formulating
remedial rules which could be for school wide implementation to address habitual tardiness for
enhanced learning efficiency.

Parents. This study will let the parents monitor the performance and attendance of their
children in school and think of activities that will let their children appreciate education and
learning.

Future Researchers. This will help the future researchers to acquire additional
information in the study of the same or related topic.
Research Hypothesis.

NULL HYPOTHESIS

Conceptual Framework

In this study, the profile of respondents will be described in terms of sex and specialization.
This will also study the factors that affects student’s tardiness as well as the teachers’ strategies to
student’s tardiness.

This study will conduct quantitative data by the used of survey method. The result of this
study will be tabulated and rate in order to get the exact or most factor that affect student’s lateness.
