PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I-GARD CORPORATION, Toronto, Ontario * May-July 2009
Developer and manufacturer of products that protect
power equipment and equipment users, including
grounding resistors, ground fault protection systems
and power resistor-based solutions.
Database Developer (Internship)
Collaborated with technical supervisor and staff
engineers on system design and upgrade projects to
increase the efficiency of the company s online retail
operation.
* Developed a digital database of resistor element
drawings.
* Created cross-reference tables for all known brands
of resistor elements.
* Built a web-based searchable database that allows
internal users to find pdf drawings of I-Gard resistor
elements by entering the part numbers of competitors
brands, thereby saving time for employees who
previously had to compare paper drawings to I-Gard s
electronic versions.
* Implemented a system that streamlined online
ordering by giving customers access to the product
database, with a link to I-Gard s SyAcc system for
order generation and automated payment.

SIEMENS PAKISTAN PK, Karachi, Pakistan * June-August

2008
Division of a global electronics and electrical
engineering company operating in the industrial,
energy and healthcare sectors.
Intern
Assisted in the development of the company s potential
wind power project for Pakistan. Studied and simulated
the impact of incorporating wind turbines into a real
distribution station. Collaborated in preparing
single line diagrams (SLD), control system
architecture, and HMI and software configuration.
* Conducted research on wind power and documented a
24-page report entitled Investor s Guide to Wind
Power in Pakistan.
* Programmed and debugged the Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLC) based systems using Siemens Step7
software.
* Prepared plans, specifications, and designs for
monitoring and control equipment, as well as PLC-
related substations and control systems.
* Established working relationships with customers to
determine their product and system requirements, then
prepared offer quotations and price lists.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS
University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario
FINAL YEAR DESIGN PROJECT * 2009-2010
Project Leader
Led a team of 4 students in designing a Smart Hydro
Generator, in order to raise awareness of the cost
savings afforded by green energy systems. Received a
score of 3.7 out of a possible 4.0.
* Researched current and archived scholarly journals
for specifications and designs of electronic power
components used in hydro generators.
* Strategized project scoping and specification documents,
to clear communicate the project roadmap.
* Implemented the power electronics module, which
consists of the regulator, AC / DC converter, and an
inverter.
* Demonstrated the final working model to a group of
professors, industry professionals, and colleagues.
REAL TIME COMPUTER CONTROL PROJECT * 2010
Project Leader: Directed a 2-student team in the
design of a real time scheduling algorithm for three
inverted pendula.
* Simulated and investigated the responses and task
schedules of three inverted pendula controlled by one
processor in MATLAB using TrueTime.
* Wrote and reviewed the final design document.

ENERGY SYSTEMS AND DISTRIBUTED GENERATION PROJECT *

2009-2010
Project Leader
Collaborated with a team of 3 students to investigate
the operation of a permanent magnet synchronous
machine and an induction machine.
* Studied the influence of voltage amplitude,
frequency variations and duty cycle variations on the
operation of both machines.
* Investigated the impact of outages on the power
system in terms of voltages and line loading, and
analyzed the transient stability concepts in power
systems using PowerWorld simulation.
* Performed short circuit analysis, power flows, and
fault studies using PowerWorld and PSCAD simulation.

CONTROL SYSTEM PROJECT * 2009

Project Leader
Led student team of 2 in applying controller and
observer techniques to an inverted pendulum on a cart
system.
* Balanced the real pendulum in a vertical position
and designed a controller for the cart to track a
square wave while the pendulum remained upright.
* Improved the closed loop system s robustness to
external disturbances.
