Dear Parent/Guardian

As part of Kalamunda Primary’s year 5 humanities program your child is invited to join the class at
the Kalamunda History village. This excursion will provide students with a deeper understanding of
the content we have covered in history this term, including; the patterns of colonial development
and the daily lives of different inhabitants (convicts, free settlers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Peoples).

The excursion will take place on the 31/10/2018 at the Kalamunda History Village (56 Railway Rd,
Kalamunda WA 6076).

Students will be participating in the activity; ‘Pioneer life,’ students will then be given an opportunity
to explore the village, with adult supervision.

These activities will incorporate the ‘influence of migrants, their services, school procedures, how
the settler’s used the local environment and their way of life from 1860’s to 1920’s.’

Staff, parent helpers and students will be walking from our school campus to the Kalamunda History
Village, it is a 6-minute walk. We will be leaving the school campus at 9 a.m. sharp. Please ensure
that you’ve child is present before this time.

Students will be separated into groups of 6, as requested by the venue. Each group will be
supervised by two adults. In the case of emergency and you need to contact your child at any stage
during the day please call school admin on 9257 1233 and they will phone a staff member on site.

In the rare case of an accident, the venue has emergency and fire evacuation procedures, outlining
instructions for fires, explosions, earthquakes, storms and other emergencies. If your child presents
an injury, teachers will attend to any injured person and call an ambulance if required. If you wish to
seek more information regarding emergency procedures, the response plan will be attached to our
excursion website.

It is compulsory for all students to wear their full school uniform (school shirt, shorts and hat) so
they are easily identified by supervisors. Students are not to bring their school bag to the excursion,
rather their lunch and morning tea should be in a disposable paper bag labeled with their name, this
will be transported by the school while students are walking. All students must bring a bottle of
water with their name clearly labeled on it.
The excursion will cost a total of $8 for students. This includes admission into the museum as well as
their guided tour. We request that payment is to be made to front office by October 17th.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to set up a meeting or email Mr Simms
or Miss Stone:

We require 10 helpers for the day, any parents who would like to volunteer as a supervisor for the
