Network Software Key Installation

Where the PTW Program Files are Run from the Network Drive
Important: This process requires windows NT or Win 2k and the user must be login as Full
Administrator to perform the operations.

1) Install PTW on the server’s local drive from the server computer. It is important to
install directly on the server computer and not from a Workstation, if not all the needed
files will not be installed. Insert PTW32 CD and select the Install PTW Software option
to install.

2) Select Network Installation


3) Select option to Install PTW Software.

4) Install PTW at the Server’s local drive, then share PTW32 folder will all PTW Users.
5) Run Key Utility Program on the Server (use the Windows Explorer and go to
C:\PTW32\BIN\KeyUtil.exe)

6) Select CrypKey Software Key Option, then click the “Go to Key Program” button.

7) Select the Load the Windows NT software key drivers (first option on the screen below),
then click the “OK” button. This will load the software key drivers.
Note: If you have WinNT, Win2K, or Win XP operating system, make sure you have full
administrative privileges.

A) Create a directory to store the Cypkey File. This directory must be located locally
on the server.

B) Share the created Crypkey File directory so that it is accessible by all PTW users.

C) Change the properties of the created Crypkey File directory so that it is in


Read/Write/Erase mode.

D) In the Software Key window form, select “Setup for network software key”
Option and enter the path name of the created Crypkey File directory. This
process will copy the encrypted file (SKM_INFO.EXE ) to the directory where it
can be read by the client workstations. The file location must be accessible by all
PTW users in a full Read/Write/Erase mode. The folder can be specified by
direct entry or by using the Browse button and selecting any file in the desired
directory folder.
Once the created shared Crypkey File directory is specified, click the “OK”
button.

On the server computer, you must specify a Local drive and directory to hold the software key file.
9) Select the “Enable, disable or transfer software key” option, then click the “OK” button.

10) Contact SKM with the Site Code Reported on the screen and inform them you are
installing the network “floating license”.
On each workstation:

- Run the key utility program
- From the server \PTW32\BIN if running PTW from the network
- Or C:\PTW32\BIN if running PTW from a local drive

12) Select Crypkey software key and click “Go to Key Program”
13) Select “Setup Network Key”

Use the Browse button, select the drive and directory where the Software key file resides
Note, in this example, the software key file resides on the WIN2K computer, in the software_key
folder.

14) Click Ok and the following window appears

15) You may need to re-start the server to activate all license activations.

Should I Install PTW on the Server or the Workstations?
You have two options for installing and running PTW on a network:
1. Install PTW on each workstation (preferable if you want each user to have his or her own set of Libraries);
(or)
2. Install PTW on a dedicated or non-dedicated file server and run PTW on each workstation using a shortcut to
that file server (preferable if you want everyone to use the same set of Libraries).

If you use option 2, you will need to install the font files used to every workstation (the font files are used by the
load schedule reports, Crystal Reports and the on-line Reference Manual.) To install the font files to every
workstation, insert the PTW CD in the workstation's CD-ROM drive. The following screen will appear
automatically.

Click the “Install Power*Tools for Windows (PTW) Now click the “Network Installation” option.

Additional files are needed to be register to use the Crystal reports in PTW. To install the Crystal reports. To
install these Crystal Report files use the run command line and type \PTW32\BIN\CR_SETUP.EXE. The
Crystal Report installation program will start

Use the browse buttons to specify the location of the PTW32 program CD; then use the second browse button to
specify the install location for PTW32
