Between 05/06 and 06/07 the methodology in counting was changed and explains in part some of the
increases particularly at the Greater London stations and Portsmouth Harbour. Nevertheless the trend
is clearly one which is rising in terms of entries and exits at stations where South West Trains are
making proposing to make cuts.

The changes to the methodology are;

1)data representing journeys made on national rail using London Travelcards sold at a TfL outlet
or at a ToC office in Zone 1 are included in the 06/07 numbers
2)Tickets sold for national rail journeys at London stations that have only an LUL not a ToC
booking office are included in the 06/07 numbers.
3)Counting journeys made to “group stations” has been updated. This explains in large part the
huge increase at Portsmouth Harbour.

Of the 114 stations listed for cuts and closures (out of a total of 145) those below are the worst
affected. Only six of these have no change to their weekday open/closing times and only three no
change to Saturday open/closing times, and none have no changes to Sunday times.
