Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies:

Middle school is a crucial point in a lifetime of learning. What you do today prepares you for where
you will go in the future. 7th grade is a “crossroad” year, as students truly get the opportunity to
participate in all that middle school has to offer, while simultaneously preparing them for their final
year before they enter high school.

In Social Studies, students will gain an understanding of the world around them and, hopefully, a
desire to want to know more! In 7th grade, students will be spending lots of time developing advanced
historical content knowledge and thinking, fine-tuning geography skills, improving historical reading/
writing skills, and discussing current events. Lesson activities will be centered upon the five strands
of Social Studies: History, Culture, Civics and Government, Economics, and Geography. Students will
be participating in a series of activities that will require time spent home studying. It is important for
students, parents and teachers to work side by side to ensure that the best possible educational
experience is provided. This year, students will be taking the North Carolina Final Exam
(NCFE) which is crucial to determining academic levels for 8th grade and beyond.
