ILMEA Honor Band

The Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) hosts an honor band festival for
students that participate in their home school’s band program. This audition is very
competitive (over 1,000 students will audition for 120 spots) but allows students to take
part in a very competitive and memorable experience. Though this is not a required
event, I encourage all 7th and 8th grade band students to practice the audition music and
take part in the audition process. In order to do so, interested students will need to
return the commitment form at the bottom. If auditioning, students need to reserve
Saturday, September 29th (8am-4pm) for the audition (a time will be assigned) and
Saturday, November 3rd (all day) for the honor festival (if selected). If you cannot commit
fully to BOTH days, please do not audition.

The audition date is Saturday, September 29th at Summit Hill Junior High School in
Frankfort (7260 W N Ave, Frankfort, IL 60423). An audition time will be assigned to your
student by the organization if they return the commitment form. Students should arrive
30-45 minutes prior to the audition time at Summit Hill JHS to warm-up and relax before
their audition. After their audition is complete students are free to go; ILMEA will contact
me with the audition results within a few days. Parents will need to provide
transportation for this event.

If your child is selected from the audition process to move forward, the festival is
Saturday, November 3rd at Lincoln-Way Central HS (1801 E Lincoln Hwy, New Lenox, IL
60451). ILMEA will send me the music ahead of time that the group will be performing
for the concert. Students will rehearse all day with the other selected members and then
put on a concert with the band, choir, and orchestra members. Parents will need to
provide transportation for this event. Additional information for the festival day will be
forthcoming.

bottom portion to Mrs. Lake-Becker by WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th.

I understand that by returning this commitment form I am committing to audition for the
ILMEA Honor Band on Saturday, Sept 29th at Summit Hill JHS in Frankfort. I also understand
that I have Saturday, November 3rd available to participate in the festival at Lincoln-Way
Central HS should I be selected. I understand that while Mrs. Lake-Becker will be in
attendance at the audition day and festival, parents must provide transportation to and
from both events.
