Death Rates 2

Abstract

Life is too short for someone life to be cut short. We as a people need to value life and instill

these values in others around us. In the United States the death rates have gone up and down

throughout the years. In past years the death rates of Americans have been high and lower in

different period of history. This paper will focus on how deaths of 15-24 year olds have died and

the major causes of the deaths in recent years.

Death Rates 3

Magnitude of the Problem – Figure 1

Descriptive Discussion of Figure 1:

Figure 1 compares the death rates of males and females from 1990-2006. We see that in 1990 the

death rates were a lot greater than those in the following years. As we can see from 2004 to 2006

the rate has started to go up. We are also seeing that the male and female death rates are very

different in that more males are dying than females each year. This chart shows how different

male and female death rates differ considerably.

Interpretive Discussion of Figure 1:

Looking over the numbers of Figure 1, the main problem is that the male death rates are

extremely higher than the female. There are about 90,000 more males dying each year than

females. Basically men are dying more than women. The rate that males are dying, 119,000,

118,000, 115,000, is too grand of numbers and should be looked at by public representatives.

Scope of the Problem – Figure 2

Descriptive Discussion of Figure 2:

Figure 2 shows the percentage of death rates in large states compared to the rest of the states in

2006. As we can see California has the highest percentage (9.7%) of death rates. The other states,

New York, Florida, Texas, and Pennsylvania have the next highest percentages amongst the

states. Looking at this chart we can see that death rate across the country are a problem. Not one

state has a tremendously higher death rate than another.

Interpretive Discussion of Figure 2:

In Figure 2, we can see that there is a difference in the amount of death in each state but nine

more than the other. With, California having 9.7% death rate and New York having 6.14% death

rate we can see that the death rate in each state does vary. To keep the death rates low in the

country something needs to be done to lower the death rate due to assaults and accidental deaths.
Death Rates 5

All over the United States death is happening and we need to find a way to decrease the rate of

how people are dying.

Changes of the Problem – Figure 3

Descriptive Discussion of Figure 3:

Figure 3 shows us how the death rates in the United States were close to 150,000 males in a year.

Over time the death rate of males has dropped but it continues to have gone up after 2003 in

males. The female death rate is not as large as the male and has dropped and looks like it has

stayed consistent for a couple of years. This graph also shows us that male and female death rates

have not been close in proximity for a while.

Interpretive Discussion of Figure 3:

The problem with Figure 3 is that the male death rate is substantially higher than the female and it is

increasing. How can we stop these men and boys from dying? This graph shows us how much

things have changed over years. We are going in the right direction to lower the death rate of
Death Rates 6

males in the United States. With a lot of hope, I believe that we can help decrease the death rate

of 15-24 year old males.

Disparities of the Problem – Figure 4

Descriptive Discussion of Figure 4:

Figure 4 shows us the death rates of male and females by race. As we can see blacks are dying

more than whites. There is a significant difference in the male female comparison as well. The

biggest difference in this table is gender and that males are dying more than females. This is a

problem that is leaving families without fathers, son, brothers, etc.

Interpretive Discussion of Figure 4:

The data in Figure 4 shows us that close to 175,000 black men have died in 2006. 112,000 white

men died in 2006 as well. The tremendous difference in the male to female death rate shows us

that the males are being put into situations that cause them to pass away. This graph also shows

that there are a lot of deaths in a year.

Death Rates 7

Summary and Conclusion

Death is a part of everyday life in the United States. Death, something that brings a lot of

different emotions out of people, needs to decrease in the amount that it is happening. I believe

that if we can share all the information that is gathered on how death is happening more people

would be aware. Each of these graphs shows us the extent of death in the United States, as well

as, in gender and race.

Overall, death rates have decreased over the years and have lowered the amount of

people dying per year. Now we need to find a solution on how to keep the death rate low and

keep people from dying because of useless crimes. I suggest that we have universal love for one

another than the death rates would fall because who would kill someone that they love.
