Integrated 2 Syllabus 2018-2019

Instructor Information

Course Description and Overview

Integrated 2 aims to formalize and extend the geometry that students have learned in previous courses. It does this by
focusing on establishing triangle congruence criteria using rigid motions and formal constructions and building a formal
understanding of similarity based on dilations and proportional reasoning. It also helps students develop the concepts of
formal proof, explore the properties of two- and three-dimensional objects, work within the rectangular coordinate
system to verify geometric relationships and prove basic theorems about circles. Students also use the language of set
theory to compute and interpret probabilities for compound events.

On a daily basis, students in Integrated 2 use problem-solving strategies, questioning, investigating, analyzing critically,
gathering and constructing evidence, and communicating rigorous arguments justifying their thinking. Under teacher
guidance, students learn in collaboration with others while sharing information, expertise, and ideas.

The course is well balanced between procedural fluency (algorithms and basic skills), deep conceptual understanding,
strategic competence (problem solving), and adaptive reasoning (extension and transference). The lessons in the course
meet all of the content standards in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. The course embeds the CCSS
Standards for Mathematical Practice as an integral part of the lessons in the course.

Course Materials
Students should have access to the following in class everyday:
 Pencil Remind:
 Colored pen or pencil for correcting work Text @franki2 to
 Binder or notebook for notes 81010
 Graphing calculator **highly suggested** (TI-nspire will be used in class)

Rules and Expectations

While in this class, your success will be directly related to the effort you choose to put in. I intend on supporting and
challenging you with a variety of learning opportunities, but you are responsible for creating the best learning
environment for yourself and your fellow students. To ensure this, you have the following rules and expectations in my
class:
 Treat EVERYONE that comes into the classroom with respect
 Come to class, and be both on time and prepared
 Be ready for class when the bell rings
 Pay attention to and engage in discussion
 Take risks and make mistakes (and learning from them)
 Listen to understand
 Follow all classroom and school rules and procedures
 Ask for help or clarification when it is needed
 Be organized (shoving papers in your book is not being organized)
 Be patient
 Take care of the classroom space

Homework Policy
Homework will be assigned nearly every class period and is due at the BEGINNING of the class period one period from
when assigned. This is an incredibly valuable opportunity to assess your understanding of the material and to practice
what is done in class. As such, you are expected to try every problem and show all necessary work and diagrams. If you
get stuck, you are expected to show evidence of your effort in order to receive credit. If homework is not ready to be
checked at the beginning of class, it will be considered late. Questions about the homework will be discussed in class.
Assessment Policy
Tests and Team Performance Tasks (TPTs) will be given throughout the trimester. Both Tests and TPTs will be announced
ahead of time. Retakes will be available for tests only. Retakes must be taken in the testing center (Room A205) within
two weeks of initial test. A self-assessment form must be completed and approved by the teacher before the retake.

Grading Policy
Points are earned through tests, quizzes, homework, in-class activities, and projects.
Grading Scale:
87 – 89% B+ 77 – 79% C+ 67 – 69% D+
93 – 100% A 83 – 86% B 73 – 76% C 63 – 66% D
90 – 92% A- 80 – 82% B- 70 – 72% C- 60 – 62% D-
0 – 59% E
(Grades will be rounded to the nearest percent only at the end of the trimester)
Trimester Grade:
The final trimester grade will be made up of:
80% Grade up to final: 20% Final Exam Grade
75% Assessments
15% Homework/Classwork
10% Team Performance Tasks

Absence Policy
If you are absent, you are responsible for finding out what was covered and turning in the necessary work. Please make
the necessary arrangements to get the missed notes.

Students will be allowed 2 class periods for each excused absence to make up any work that was assigned or
assessments that were given on the day of the excused absence (i.e., a two-day excused absence would result in a four-
day make-up period). The return day is considered the first class period. Students will be required to submit any work
that was previously assigned and due on the day of their excused absence on the day of their return.

If you are present the day a test, quiz, or project is announced, but absent between the announcement and the actual
test/due date, you will take the test or turn in the project on the scheduled date, assuming you did not miss important
material. If you miss a test or quiz during your absence, you must make up the test in the testing center by the day put
in the PowerSchool comments. If this does not happen, no credit will be given. Make up work, quizzes, or tests will not
be accepted for unexcused absences.

Electronic Device Policy

All personal electronic devices are not to be used in our classroom during instructional time, unless otherwise directed.
The first time they are seen, they will be confiscated for the remainder of the hour, and each time after that, they will be
taken to the appropriate assistant principal. If there are extenuating circumstances, please talk to me before class starts.

Transfer Policy
Students may transfer to a different math course during the first three weeks (15 class periods) with teacher approval. They will be
graded only on subsequent work in their new course, but be responsible for all of the content of the course in terms of future
tests/quizzes and the final exam.

Students may transfer to a different math course between the third and sixth weeks (15 to 30 class periods) with teacher and
department head approval. The grades from their previous course will count as 30% of their trimester grade. The grades from their
new course will count as 50% of their trimester grade. The final exam will count as 20% of their trimester grade. Again, students will
be responsible for all of the content of the course in terms of future test/quizzes and the final exam.

There will be no student transfers after the six weeks (30 class periods). Students may Drop/Fail from the course after six weeks.
