In the above holy verse we have bowed our head to the Semi-Salvated Souls, Liberated
Souls, Preceptors, Spiritual Teachers and Saints. We should worship all these five Supreme Spiritual
Guides (Panch Permeshthees).
This Mantra is having 35 letters and 58 Matras. The chalisa of Namokar . Mantra is also
available, you should recite that also.

Poojya Ganini Pramukh Aryika Shri Gyanmati Mataji wrote Bal Vikas Books in 1974.
These books are very useful for everyone for knowing the fundamentals of Jainism.
There are four parts of Bal Vikas. I want to teach all of you from the book of Bal Vikas part-1.
This book begins with Namokar
. Mantra, which is eternal and is the mother of all of the Mantras.
Firstly, you should understand its correct pronunciation then it will save you like a Mother and
you will get victory in all adverse conditions by reciting this Mantra.
You should recite it nine times every morning, when you wake up and also in the night, when
you go to the bed. Thus, the whole day of you will be very fruitful and auspicious. You will also see
good dreams in the night.
After this you will know about the greatness of Namokar

O my friends! listen my talk,
As food is neccessary for the body, prayer is neccessary for the Soul. So we should
go to Jinmandir daily and should have Guru darshan, by this religious activity we will get a
lot of Punya and holiness of Soul.
After this I tell you some facts, which you should accept-
1. Always drink filtered water, never use un-filtered water.
2. Always eat vegetarian food, never eat non-veg, egg, fish, meat etc. and never use
the non-veg materials also as-leather etc.
3. Daily say Jai-jinendra and not say Hai-Hello.
4. Take food in day only and not at night in Chaturmas or at least for one month of Bhadrapad.

GREATNESS OF NAMOKAR
. MANTRA
Once upon a time prince Jivandhar recited Namokar
. Mantra to a dying dog and due to its
effect the dog became a heavenly deity called Sudarshan Yakshendra .
From there he came down to Jivandhar and greeted him with much respect.

MANGALANAM CHA SAVVESIM,
PADHAMAM HAVAI MANGALAM.
The meaning of the above verse is that reciting of the Namokar
. Mantra destroys all evil-
effects and this mantra is supreme in auspiciousness.
Disciple: Can we attain any one out of these five supreme posts?
Teacher: Yes, you can attain all the five posts from the human life.
We can see that the last three souls are present even today in a group of Jain Saints called
SANGH and they practice the scriptures to become Semi-Salvated and Liberated Souls.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE LESSON
Religious Gentlemen!
This is the second lesson of Bal Vikas, which tells us about the ‘Greatness of
Namokar
. Mantra’. By the above description, you knew that a dying dog became a deity just by
listening to this Mahamantra, although the dog was not understanding its meaning. Similarly, one
other famous story is about Padmaruchi Seth, who recited this holy verse to a dying bull, which
became the son of the king of the same city in the next birth and ultimately became ‘Sugreev’ and
the jeev of Padmaruchi Seth became ‘Shri Ram Chandra’. Both had the fast-friendship till getting
salvation.
Dying snake-couple became Dharnendra-Padmavati by listening to this Mahamantra. Such
other true stories are also present in Jain Scriptures. Even today Namokar
. Mahamantra is recited
to a child of 40 days to make him/her a Jain. At the time of death also, it is recited to householders
and even to Sadhus.
So we should recite this Mantra in heart during all the activities of life as sitting-standing-
walking and so on. It will also help the children during their examination, so start its recitation from
today only.

Teacher : Emperor Subhoum Chakravarti was the ruler of the six sections of the universe.
An astral deity (Jyotishk Dev) wanted to kill him out of enemity but he could not do so as the king
was reciting and remembering the Namokar
. Mantra. Cunningly the deity asked the emperor to
write down the holy verse and put it under his feet, only then, he will let him go. The king did so
reluctantly. For humiliating the holy verse the deity was able to drown the king in the ocean. After
the death, the king was born in the seventh hell.

You should recite this mantra at least nine times, when you wake up in the morning and also

Shortest Meditation of OHM Mantra

For sometime you sit in lotus posture and concentrate on a Mantra. I will tell you today,
how to do meditation. Please give attention and keep your one palm on another palm.
The right palm should be upside. Now close your eyes and keep your body fully straight.
Firstly you imagine a white big background in front of you. On this background you see the
Mantra Om. This Mantra has been originated from the Namokar
. Mantra. Om is the smallest form
.
of the Namokar mantra. This is the original mantra and you can-not convert it into English or in
other language. Now you concentrate on saffron coloured Om written on the white background.
Although the external eyes are closed, yet the internal journey is going on. You have not
to take sleep and have to stop your mind from going outside.
You concentrate your mind only on Om mantra. Don’t think anything else and try again
try to see the Om.
In second phase of this meditation, you see the Sun before you and assume that this Sun is
having the image of Om at its centre. Imagine that the rays are coming out from this Sun. At this
time, you feel very much happiness and peace.
Now, you will complete your short meditation. Before it, check/purify your breathing
system. You should recite 5 Padas of Namokar Mantra one by one.
Telling “Namo

. you take a long breath and with “Namo
. Siddhanam”

exhale your breathing. After this you tell internally “Namo Aayariyanam”

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE LESSON


Lovely Kids! all of you have read the third lesson of Bal Vikar Part one and now you will read
the fourth lesson "24 Teerthankars".
In this fourth lesson Poojya Ganini Pramukh Shri Gyanmati Mataji has told the names and
symbols of twenty four Teerthankars.
Probably, you must be knowing these twenty four names. Yet you should now remember
their symbols also, so that you can recognize the Idol of a particular Teerthankar. After remembering
these, you should go to any Jain Mandir and write down in your diary the names of the
Teerthankar-Idols present in that Mandir.
I want to tell you about Teerthankar Lord Mahaveer. Who was He ? How He got the rank
of Teerthankar ? Firstly you should know that at present, all of us are living in the era of Lord
Mahaveer. Because after Him, no Teerthankar has born on this earth. In future, when fourth
era will come again in the Bharat Kshetra, twenty four Teerthankars will be born here at Ayodhya
Nagari.
Teerthankar Mahaveer was born at Kundalpur of Bihar State. His father’s name was King
Siddharth and the name of His mother was Queen Trishla. Mahaveer was born on Chaitra
Shukla Trayodashi. He did not marry and took the vow of celibacy for whole life. He took
Jaineshwari Deeksha at thirty years of age and attained Kevalgyan after twelve years of penance,
at the age of 42. His first divine preaching was originated on the Vipulachal Mountain of Rajgrahi
in Bihar State.
For thirty years, Bhagwan Mahaveer preached the whole universe sitting in Samavasaran.
After that, He attained Salvation/Nirvandham from Jalmandir of Pavapuri Teerth in Bihar Sate.
Lovely Children! You have known about the brief introduction of Lord Mahaveer.
Now you should also remember that Lord Mahaveer was not the founder of Jainism because
He was the twenty fourth Teerthankar. Infact, in this era Jainism was first propagated by
Lord Rishabhdev, the first Teerthankar.
Being a Jain, you should always remain vegetarian because 'Live and Let Live' is the main
preaching of all the Teerthankars.

LIVING BEING AND NON LIVING BEING


I am a living being. I am able to know and see. I was living, I am living and I will live,
therefore I am a living being. Human, animals(beasts), birds, worms, trees etc. all are living
beings.
Toy is lifeless. It does not have the senses to know and see. It cannot feel happiness or
sorrow, therefore it is lifeless (Non living being) . Watch, car, television and buildings etc. all are
lifeless.
IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE LESSON
Religious Brothers, Sisters and Lovely Children! You have got the knowledge of four lessons
of Bal Vikas Part-1. Now you will read the fifth lesson-"Living Being And Non Living Being”.
In this lesson, the pictures have also been given by Poojya Ganini Shri Gyanmati Mataji.
You should know the special issue that Jains believe that each living being is an integration of
soul and body. Soul is an eternal non-material entity, which upon death takes rebirth and continues
the cycle of life and death until liberation.
Liberation is achieved only after the soul frees itself of all Karmic influences of present and
past lives.
You and we all are living beings, so all of us should always do auspicious activities, should eat
vegetarian diet, should use herbal products. You should not use any leather products because

leather is produced by killing the animals. You should also not use non-vegetarian soaps, toothpastes
and cosmetic items.
One thing you should know that even when you are a vegetarian yet some children take
cakes or pastries in birthday parties of their friends, so be careful that to be a strict vegetarian you
should never take cakes, pastries and biscuits etc. having egg. Because egg is also the baby of the
hen and consuming it means non vegeterian diet.
Also remember that no egg is vegetarian.

Use of Filtered water

The use of filtered water has been described in Asht Moolguns of a Shravak.
Bhavyatman! various little living-beings are present in only one drop of unfiltered water.
The use of filtered water is the peculiar characteristic of the 'Principle of Non-violence' or
Compassion for all the living-beings of Jainism.
As I have told you before also that not taking meals at night and using filtered water are
the symbols of Jain community throughout the world.
I want to tell you a true story about it-
Once late Dr. Kailash Chand Jain, Delhi, dedicated devotee of Poojya Gyanmati Mataji,
went abroad to attend an official meeting. All the English counter-parts knew that Dr. Jain
used to drink only filtered water.
One day what happened that he took up the glass of water and touched it with the lips.
At the same moment the English official stoped him and asked-
Mr. Jain! will you drink unfiltered water ?
Dr. Jain was surprised to know the effect of following Jain-Norms.
Infact, that day Dr. K.C. Jain forgot this practice due to concentration in the work but
even then the Englishman stopped him from breaking his rule.
So, you should also think that when you practice a particular vow, you are recognized by
that.
Infact, drinking filtered water is not an old-fashioned tradition, but it is full of kindness
for small creatures along with the sound health.
I hope that you will sincerely try to drink filtered water after reading about this.
Remember, the water should be filtered by double cloth and after it the 'Jivani'
should be done in the proper way, so that the creatures on the cloth again reach
their reservoir. The water filtered by filtering devices may be good for health but
the Jain principle of Compassion for all the living-beings is not followed here as all
the poor creatures die in the process of filtration.

KINDS OF LIVING BEINGS (SOULS)


There are two kinds of living beings (souls)-
1) Worldly souls 2) Liberated souls
I am a worldly being, cycling the universe and suffering the miseries of deaths and births. I
am bound by all eight Karmas, therefore I am a worldly being. Human, Divines (Deities), Hellish
beings (Narkis) and animals, all are worldly souls.
Those who have destroyed all the eight Karmas, will not take birth in the world again. They
are free from the miseries of deaths and births and are called Liberated Souls or Siddha Parmatma.
Pupil: Can we become Liberated Soul (Siddha)?
Teacher: Yes, surely we can. Infact to understand the way to become Siddha, we study the
scriptures of Jain Dharma.

The name of the sixth lesson is “Kinds of Living-beings.”
Here you must know one important fact that Arihant Bhagwan has destroyed four Ghatiya
Karmas but still they are not fully liberated but it is also true that in sometime He will surely
become the Siddha Parmeshthi, so they are neither worldly nor Liberated. They are called as
Eashatsansari or Eashanmukta (Semi-Salvated).
You and we are worldly souls from eternal. When we will destroy all the eight Karmas, we
will get liberation and will become Siddha Parmatma. After getting that post, we will never take
birth in the world. But at present all of us are worldly souls, so we should do auspicious activities
and should lead a virtuous life.
At last I want to tell you that throughout the day you eat variety of foods. Food governs not
only your physical health, but also your mental well-being and your social interactions. In Jain way
of life, diet minimizes harm to living beings. Jains believe that all living beings have souls, unlike
other traditions, who believe that only humans have souls. Hence, killing of any living creature
may it be a plant or a human-being, is violence. However, Jains categorize living beings by the
number of senses they possess (from one to five senses).
The level of violence that is committed when any creature is harmed, depends on the senses
it possesses.
For example, plants and bacteria are one-sensed beings and cows, pigs or humans are
five sensed beings. Eating meat is many orders of magnitude more violent than a plant based diet.
Now I am ending this lesson and inspire you for progressing your human life on the path of
morality.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SENSES (INDRIYAS)
A worldly being is recognized by the senses he/she has. There are five kinds of sense organs
(Indriyas) : 1 . Body (Sparshan) 2. Tongue (Rasna) 3. Nose (Ghran) 4. Eyes (Chakshu) and
5. Ears (Karna).
By touching which, qualities like light, heavy , cold, hot etc. are known is called Body
(Sparshan Indriya).
Tongue (Rasna Indriya) has the quality of taste like sweet or sour.
Nose (Ghran Indriya) has the quality of smelling like good or bad.
Eyes (Chakshu Indriya) have the quality of seeing like black, yellow, blue, red, white colour etc.
Ears (Karna Indriya) have the quality of hearing the sound of human, animals, birds & music etc.
Pupil: How many senses do we have?
Teacher: We have all the five senses because we recognize the things by touching, by
tasting (juice etc.), by smelling (fruits etc.) , by looking (picture etc.) and by hearing (sound etc.).

Now, You are reading the lesson about five senses (Indriyas). What is the meaing of
Indriya ? and how many kinds are of Indriyas-senses ? In this lesson Poojya Ganini Pramukh

But I want to tell you that trees and plants are having only one sense, i.e. touch, so they are
called as one-sensed beings or Ekendriya. The creatures who have two sense organs-touch and
tongue are called two sensed beings or Dweendriya. For example-earthworm etc.
The creatures who have three sense organs-touch, tongue and nose are called three sensed
beings or Treendriya. For example-ants etc.
The creatures who have four sense organs-touch, tongue, nose and eyes are called four
sensed beings or Chaturindriya.
For example-wasp, mosquito, housefly etc. and as you know human beings are five sensed beings.
I usually tell that every human is God, If he has humanity. You are also God, I am also God,
because all of us have a powerful Soul, that is called Bhagwan Atma. You think about yourself
that I am a pure soul in reality, but in present I am a worldly soul, so I am impure. You should try
to purify that. In this concern I want to tell you about your primary duties or activities-
You pass through many stages in life and your typical daily activities and priorities change.
However, the core of your typical day can be grounded in a way of life which is mindful,
compassionate and able to increase your spiritual strength.
I am telling some points for you-
1. You wake up early, with your palms together and sitting with your back straight, take
three deep breaths.
2. Recite Namokar
. Mantra nine times or three times.
3. You never use any animal products like soap, shampoo, Toothpaste etc.
4. After taking bath you go to Jin Mandir and bow to the God i.e. twenty four Teerthankars
and Panch Permeshthees.
5. In breakfast you take milk, fruits and dry fruits etc. and take only vegetarian items in your meals.

delicious vegetarian dishes, vegetarian edibles, vegetarian articles of daily use etc.
6. You should always respect others' views also, keep Non-absolutism in mind, control anger
and criticism, be humble, friendly and compassionate.
7. Along with your school studies, attend Dharmik Pathshala also.
8. Do not purchase and play violent video games or items.
9. Go to bed early so you can rise early.
10. Use of Internet, Whatsapp, Facebook etc. is a common trend of today between children &
youngsters all, but to be involved in all these for the maximum time of the day is not beneficial for
physical, mental & spiritual health. Body organs like eyes-neck etc. are affected adversely, sleeping
hours are disturbed, people are joined with the outer world but produce distances with their own
family to grow unwanted tensions. Sometimes couples separate due to mutual-unfaithfulness.
Sinful-karmas are earned due to playing such games, which include Sankalpi Himsa
(intentional killing) and also vulgartiy. So, one has to be very careful in using all these modern
means so that one grows in the positive direction in the most valuable human-life.
You can practice all these points throughout your life.

REWARD FOR THE DEVOTION TO TRUE DIVINE


Once upon a time a frog took a petal of lotus in its mouth; with great pleasure it started its
journey for the darshan of Lord Mahaveer. In the way it was trodden under the foot of the
elephant of King Shrenik.
It died with holy thought and was born in heaven as deity. From there he at once came down
for worship in the Samavsharan of Lord Mahavir Swami. Seeing the mark of frog in his crown,
King Shrenik asked about him from Gautam Gandhar. All the persons were very much pleased to
know the importance and reward for having the thoughts of Devdarshan.
Look children! Even the thought to have the darshan of Jinendra Dev gives you a lot of
Punya. Never go to a temple or a Spiritual Teacher with empty hands. You should carry with you
rice, nuts, almonds or fruits and place them in front of them on altar while doing darshan.

PUNISHMENT FOR INSULTING THE IDOL OF A GOD (TRUE DIVINE)


Once upon a time Queen Kankodari,who was proud of being the Emperoress got angry with
her step queen. She got a Jain idol brought from the temple of her step queen and threw it out in
the open. On the advice of Aryika Sanyam Shree the queen got back the idol from outside and
again consecrated it in the temple. The queen thereafter worshipped the idol in many ways and
observed punishment vows.
The queen in her next birth became Anjana, the wife of Pawan. Because of her act of sin,
she was separated from her husband for 22 years and suffered a lot of miseries.
Dear children! You should never insult a Jain idol by heart, words or deeds.

All of you should know by this real story from Jain scriptures that Idols of Jinendra Bhagwan
are also as real Jinendras. So you should never insult those idols but you should always respect,
worship and honour them.
Jain Scriptures always tell that by the honour and
worship of Jain Idols, one can get each and everything
in life. Although Jinendra Bhagwan is always without
any attachment or malice i.e. He is veetragi, even
then devotion to Him or His Idol produces so much
Punya that all our aims are accomplished.
So you should always have the Darshan of
Jin Idol with full respect, honour and devotion.
You should also know that the tradition of making
Idol and Jin-Temples is going on in the world from the
times immemorial. It has been said in Jain Granthas
that the Punya of making a Jain Pratima is the greatest
in the world. All the auspicious activities assembled
together cannot match the height of the Punya obtained
by the consecration of a Jin-Pratima.
And this is the reason why, even today, grand
Jain Temples and Jain Idols are being constructed and
great Panch Kalyanaks are being organized for their
Pran Pratishtha.
As recently on the inspiration of Poojya Ganini
Pramukh Shri Gyanmati Mataji single stone 108 ft.
high Idol of the first Teerthankar Bhagwan
Rishabhdev was constructed out of the Mangitungi
mountain after the dedicated hard work of 20 years
and grand Panchkalyanak Pratishtha was organized
in Feb. 2016 at Mangitungi (Distt. Nasik) Maharashtra.
So by the lesson of today you should understand
that you will never dishonour the
Jin-Pratima and should always have full devotion to
Lord Jinendra and his Idol.

REWARD FOR DEVOTION TO THE SPIRITUAL SAINTS


After the holy death (Samadhi) of Shrutkevli Shri Bhadra Bahu, his disciple Maurya Emperor
Chandragupt, as a Jain saint lived and worshipped the consecrated feet of his Spiritual Teacher
for twelve years in the jungle, with the result that the deities established a city there and served
food to the saint. When the group of saints came back, one of the Munis forgot his Kamandal
there, after taking the food. In the afternoon he returned to fetch it. He saw that the Kamandal
was hanging on a branch of a tree. On seeing this he realized that the deities were pleased with
the devotion of Muni Chandragupt towards his precept and so they had served them food. Jain
Munis do not accept meals from the hands of deities, therefore, Muni Chandragupt repented and
observed punishment vows.
Dear Children! it is not strange that even the divine gods worship those who worship their
Spiritual Teachers because it is the cause of even salvation.

The name of the eleventh lesson is-"Reward for Devotion to the Spiritual Saints", where the
devotion of a disciple and the fruition of Guru Bhakti have been elucidated.
Poojya Gyanmati Mataji has told here a real story of Jain Scriptures.
This story is two thousand years ancient. Samrat Chandragupt Maurya was a powerful king
of Ujjain. Once upon a time he was initiated by Shrut Kevali Bhadrabahu, after sometime of this
initiation, a very bad time came in North India in the condition of Akaal, when the rainy season
had not come and earth was completely dried.
Then Acharya Bhadrabahu along with his Muni Sangh decided to go the South India. After
going there Muni Shri Chandragupta served his Preceptor Shri Bhadrabahu Maharaj with lot of
devotion. After the holy death (Samadhi) of Bhadrabahu Maharaj, Chandragupta Muniraj
consecrated his feet and continued his devotion for his Guru. Seeing his devotion the deities
arranged for his Aahar (meals) by creating a divine city around.
Chandragupta could not know about it. As you know, when other Muni Sangh came there
and told him the reality then Chandragupta Muniraj after knowing the real fact, took the
Prayashchitta (the punishment vows) because he had taken the Aahar by deities unknowingly.
As a matter of fact, Digambar Munis can not accept the Aahar from deities because deities can
not take Sanyam or restraint.
This story tells us that by the true devotion to the Preceptor or Guru, even deities of heaven
are ready to help you. So one should have the true reverence to own Guru or Preceptor.

PUNISHMENT FOR HUMILIATING JAIN SAINTS


Once a group of saints (Chaturvidh Sangh) comprising of Muni, Aryika, Shravak, Shravika
was passing through a village called ‘Antik’. They were going to Sammed Shikharji. On seeing
the nude (naked) saints, all people of the village began to laugh and humiliated them. One Potter
even asked them not to do so and he himself prayed and worshipped the Sangh. After sometime
a big fire broke out in the village .Sixty thousand persons were burnt alive and died together . For
insulting the saints, all of them were born in the category of shell (with 2 Indriyas). There after
they were reborn as gijai. After many many births & deaths they all were born as the sons of
Sagar Chakravarti.
So children! from this we learn that to laugh & insult others is a sin, all the more when
you do so to saints, it is the greatest sin.

Firstly you should know that what is Chaturvidh Sangh ? In which group, Digambar Munis,
Aaryikas, Kshullaks and Kshullikas live, that is called Chaturvidh Sangh. At present also, such
Chaturvidh Sanghs are available in India. All of you get Darshan of them and listen their
Pravachans also time to time.
It is also said for these Gurus-
You are mother and you are too father.
You are too friend and you are the brother.
You are money and knowledge too you are.
O Swami! I feel everything you are.
It means Gurus are our Parents, Gurus are our Gods, Gurus are our real brothers, sisters and
dear friends also. They are our open college, knowledge, health and wealth. At least you should
know that all divine powers live in the heart of real Gurus or Preceptors, so they are very much
honourable personalities.
Today also, we worship them, we do honour them and serve them. One gets punishment by
insulting Jain Saints-Gurus or Munis and gets happiness in life by honouring and worshipping
them.

2. Middle part is called Madhya Lok. It consists of numerous islands & oceans. The first
island is Jamboodweep in the middle of all.
3. Lower part is called Adho Lok. It consists of seven hells.
On the upper side of Siddhashila, Liberated souls
are present at the end of the Universe.
The entire Universe is in the form of a standing
person with his hands placed on both side of the waist &
both the feet apart (that is, separated). The middle Madhya
Lok is present at the waist portion. The space just in the
middle of the entire Universe from bottom to top is
‘Trasnali’, which is thirteen Raju in length, one Raju in
both width and thickness. All living beings (Tras jeev) are
found in this space.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THE LESSON
Now we will discuss the thirteenth lesson of Bal Vikas Part-1. The name of this lesson is-
"Three Universe."
In this lesson Poojya Ganini Shri Gyanmati Mataji has told about three parts of Universe or
World.
As you know that the symbol of our Jainism is the structure of Three Universe i.e. Teen
Lok, in which all of us, all of you and all the creatures of the world are wandering from eternal, the
cause of this wandering is only the ignorance and the wrong belief that is called Mithyatva.
At present we have got the humanlife, so we should use this in getting good character.
You will feel very happy knowing the fact that three Universe structure has been constructed
at Jambudweep-Hastinapur by the inspiration of Poojya Ganini Gyanmati Mataji.
Seven hells have been shown there in Adholok. When you will see those, you will think that
I will never do sinful activities. But when you will go in the Middle lok by the lift, you will see very
nice scenes of Temples and five Merus etc. and after that when you will go to the upper universe
or Urdhva lok, you will see very wonderful scenes there, and will feel the heavenly enjoyment. In
sixteen heavens, golden palaces of Indras have been constructed. Jinendra Mandirs are also
present on the upper side of those sixteen Heavens. Nine Graiveyak abodes, nine Anudish abodes
and five Anuttar abodes have also been constructed with very beautiful Temples.
On the top of the three Universe, Siddhashila is situated as like half moon. About four
hundred fifty idols have been consecrated in these Temples of Teen Lok Rachna. All of you can
go upto Siddhashila here.
So you come to this Teerth to have the gracious view of this structure at least once. Here
you will have the Darshan and blessings of Poojya Ganini Shri Gyanmati Mataji also in near
future.

The Pleasures of the Salvated Soul


The pleasures of enjoyment-landers (Bhogbhumij) are infinite times the pleasures of
Chakravartees. The pleasures of Dharnendra are infinite times more than the pleasures of
enjoyment-landers. The pleasures of Lord of deities (Indras) are infinite times more than
them. The Ahamindras (deities of Graiveyakas, Anudishas and Anuttara abodes) have infinite
times pleasures than the Indras. Add collectively the infinite times pleasures of present, past
and future of all the above categories. Even the pleasure of a moment of the salvated-beings
is infinite times more than the above collective pleasures. This is mere a statement only. This
is because the pleasures of others are associated with perturbance while those of the salvated
ones are unperturbed. Thus, it should be understood that the pleasures of Salvated-Souls can
not be expressed through language.

the centre & finally to the left of the centre, while pronouncing ARHANT, SIDDH, ACHARYA,
UPADHYAYA, SARVASADHU respectively. Thus placing the rice five times-

water.

Asht Mool Gun of a Shravak
(Eight Basic Merits Of A House-Holder)

I want to tell you about Asht Mool Gun i.e. eight basic merits or virtues of the house-holder
(Shravak). First you read a small story-
Once upon a time a tribal Pururava wished to kill a Jain Saint. However, his wife stopped
him by saying that he is forest deity or Van-Devta. There after he bowed to the Saint.
The Saint explained him about the virtues of human life. On his inspiration the tribal accepted
the vow of not taking wine, honey, meat and all the five Udambar fruits. As he accepted this vow,
he was born in the heaven as deity after his death. Later on, the same soul of the deity became
Lord Mahaveer.
Here, you have to know that Asht Mool Guns are of two types. Firstly I tell you about the first
type of Mool Guns.
You can write their names-1. Renunciation of wine, 2. Renunciation of meat, 3. Renunciation
of honey. These are called as three Makars. It means Hindi word (M) is the first word of these
three names (madya, mans, madhu), so these are called as three Makars.
After this, five Udambar fruits are also there, those are also impure and are not edible for
you. Those names are-Barh i.e. Banyan, this is produced by Banyan tree. Second Udambar fruit
is-Peepal, this is produced by Peepal tree, third Udambar fruit is-Paakar, fourth Udambar fruit
is-Kathoomar and the name of the fifth Udambar fruit is-Goolar.
Bhavyatman! all of you should know specially that those five Udambar fruits contain tras
jeevas and if one eats them, he or she does the violence by killing these tras jeevas.
Now, you read the second type of eight Moolguns i.e. basic merits-1. Not to drink wine,
2. Not to eat meat, 3. Not to take honey, 4. Not to take food after sunset, 5. Not to eat any of the
five Udambar fruits, 6. Not to kill living-beings or to have compassion for all living-beings,
7. To drink water filtered by double cloth, 8. To worship five great Souls-Panch-Permeshthees.
The qualities which are fundamental for a Shravak are called Moolgunas. As there can-not
be a tree without root, similarly one can-not be a real Shravak (House holder) without accepting
the eight basic qualities.
You should know here that according to Jain Granths, taking even a drop of honey is equivalent
to the sin of burning of the seven villages.
Similarly, you are committing a great sin by consuming (eating) meat and drinking wine. You
are killing innumerable tras living-beings by eating any of the five Udambar fruits of Banyan,
Peepal, Paakar, Kathoomar and Goolar.
Therefore you should abstain from all these things to lead a virtuous life.
