Linear Minumac

1 - INTRODUCTION

In order to respond to the requirements expressed by IRKUTSK AVIATION, Forest-Liné

submit a proposal for a 5-axis LINEAR MINUMAC Vertical Milling Machine of the latest
generation

The LINEAR MINUMAC takes advantage of the technology of linear motors on the X and Y-
axis and of FEM optimisation calculus as well as of frequency analyses, thus taking her to the
leading edge of technical progress.

2 - DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE

2.1 - CONCEPT

LINEAR MINUMAC is a 5-axis overhead way type milling machine. The gantry travels along
two separate overhead ways, between which a customised working table is located. The
gantry supports a vertical milling head with a HF-spindle moving in 2 angles.

This machine is intended for milling in hard material such as steel or stainless steel for
toolings, limited to the load capacity of the chosen spindle; and can be used for rough and
finish milling in soft materials as aluminium alloys

The structure, designed by means of the finite element method, has been particularly as for
material selection, section dimensioning, thickness of webs, number and location of the
reinforcement ribs... aimed at obtaining the utmost rigidity combined with optimised weight:
the mobile structure components are steel weldments and the milling head is made of
aluminium, the floor table is made of cast iron

Concrete towers ensure:

-Optimum stability and damping for high speed milling conditions
-A very efficient protection around the working area
