linked through an affiliation from their

The side have also enjoyed somewhat of
a renaissance in the last six years, winning
their maiden Women’s Super League title in
2016 and then partaking in their first two

Based on this, it would appear that
everything Mansour touches in Manchester

continuing to be the case in the future?
Finances don’t seem to be an issue;
despite their expenditure on players being
higher than ever before, their incomings
continue to rise - the club’s annual report
for 2016-17 showed a record revenue
of £473.4m - a 21% increase on the
previous season.
As a result, the percentage of that
revenue spent on wages has dropped
to 56%, showing the club have gone
a long way to becoming sustainable

consistently sit above 100% during
the early days of Mansour’s reign,

2017-18 figures are expected to

percentage rise since 1903.
From £100 to £198 million... but what does the future hold?
In truth, it’s hard to predict what will happen in the future now regarding the global transfer record. Back in the 1890s, they’d have probably fainted
at just the thought of £200m alone, never mind the amount being spent on a footballer. Even taking inflation into account, Willie Groves’ £100 figure
would only stand at little over £10,000. Considering this jump in price, where will the game sit in say another hundred years?
To put it all into context, European Cup winner Trevor Francis’ million-pound move almost 40 years ago has since been bettered by a League Two club -
Notts County paid £1.5m for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
In terms of going forward, who knows when the record will next be broken? But despite fees rising year on year, it’s difficult to see Neymar’s record
being broken any time soon - rather than being one of the world’s current superstars, it is perhaps more likely to be an upcoming talent in a few years.
