Acknowledgement

My S.B.A couldn't be completed without the help of my

parents, teachers and students. I mainly thank the
students of my school (Arima North Secondary) for the
completion of my questionnaire. It has been a success. I
also thank my parents for their support and
encouragement throughout this task. I also thank my
teachers for guidance and support.
 Introduction

Arima North Secondary is located on Arima Old Road,

Arima. The school consist of approximately 800
students. I have been attending the school for the past
five years. During that time I have noticed that some
students get caught using alcohol. I wanted to know if
students also use illegal drugs, that is why I am doing
research on how illegal drugs affect student at my
school.

Reason for selecting the area of research

I selected this topic because drugs abuse is a major

reason why the students of my school are failing
academically. This survey seeks to find the effects on the
students and the solutions to the problem.

Method of Investigation

I have decided to choose the close-ended questionnaire

method because it is a relatively quick way to collect
information. It's also confidential an keeps the anonymity
of the respondents.

Procedures for data collection

I printed and gave out a total of 20 questionnaires to the

students of Arima North Secondary School. I used the
face to face method and it was successful, all was
completed 50% was male and 50% female.

Presentation of data

A total of 20 questionnaires were given out to the

students of Arima North Secondary School. Out of the 20
questionnaires given out all was given back to me in my
hand. There were 50% males as well as 50% females.

Analysis and interpretation

It was found that 65% of the students do not use drugs as

such the uses of drugs I not a big problem at Arima North
Secondary School. People use drugs mainly because they
get pressured by their peers (60%) to do so. Other use it
because of experimentation (20%).
Students mostly use marijuana, this could be when
compared to other drugs like heroin and cocaine it is the
cheapest. Illegal drugs affects students in their daily
activities and in their academic studies

Findings

The survey found that :

1. Students at Arima North Secondary are not using
hard or illegal drugs in large numbers.
2. Students use drugs because of peer pressure.

3. Students use marijuana mainly out of the others

(drugs).

Recommendations

Measures can be taken to curve the use of the illegal

drugs among students.
1. Students' bags and pockets should be checked at all
times before they enter the school compound.
2. Educate students on the danger of using illegal
drugs.
3. Have more extra-curricular activities for studentss to
be active in.
