FAQ on GIRO Payment


GIRO is a convenient, cashless mode of payment. To help you better understand the GIRO payment method,
here are some answers to the most frequently raised questions on GIRO:

Question: How do I get started?


Print out the completed online GIRO form and obtain Signatures/Thumbprints.
Return the original form to the below address:

Question: How long do I need to wait before my GIRO arrangement is effective?

Processing of the GIRO applications generally takes 6 to 8 weeks. We will inform you within 8 weeks
from your date of submission if your GIRO application has been rejected.

Once the GIRO arrangement is effective, the following will appear in your Student E-Bill.
- Statement "Payment to be deducted through GIRO on DD/MM/YY"
- Amount of deduction
- GIRO Bank account

In the meantime, continue to pay all your bills by other cashless modes of payment (NETS, cash card, EZ-Link,
cheque, bank draft, cashier's order and credit card) at One-Stop @ SAC until your GIRO arrangement is effective.

Question: When will the GIRO deduction be made?

Your GIRO arrangement is only effective when the statement "Payment to be deducted through GIRO"
appears on your student E-bill. The GIRO deduction date will be advised in the E-Bill.

Question: Can I scan or email a copy of the GIRO form to One Stop @ SAC?

No. The Banks require the original hardcopy application for processing. Photocopies of the GIRO form
or E-signatures are not accepted by the banks.

Question: What happens if there are insufficient funds in my bank account?

A late fee of $25 will be levied by NTU if the GIRO collection fails. We will send you an email notification
to inform you of the failure and a subsequent collection date (if any).

Please note that some banks do charge a service fee for unsuccessful GIRO deductions due to
insufficient funds. Kindly ensure there are sufficient funds in your bank account by due date.

Question: What happens to my GIRO arrangements that are no longer used?


You should review all your GIRO arrangements periodically and terminate those arrangements that are no
longer required with your bank.

Question: Can I terminate my GIRO arrangement?

For termination of GIRO arrangements, please download the "Termination of Interbank GIRO" form found
from NTU's website and submit the completed form to the following address:

Question: Do I still have to submit the GIRO application again if I have already submitted it for my studies
previously?
Yes, this GIRO application is strictly for deduction of tuition, compulsory miscellaneous and/or hostel fees related to your
Undergraduate studies in NTU. Any disbursement of scholarship and bursary will be credited directly into your bank account as
well.
