TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Shaft openings to be either filled or capped.
• Fillings should be for the whole length of the shat with
the lowest 15 m filled with non-combustible material.
• Caps:
– To be of 120 mm (or more) thick concrete or
equivalent material.
– Be equipped with a vent pipe.

STANDARD POCEDURES
• Remove surface structures surrounding the shaft.
• Erect temporary protective fence around the work
area.
• Place a sturdy barrier around the shaft collar.
• Place the steel cover ofer the shaft top during hte
idle periods.
• Monitor for hazardous gases.
• Place a fence around the site after filling.
