A New Form of On-the-Job Training
As a result of an optimally balanced com­
bination of training, practical phases, and
expertise on demand, participants can
rapidly set up SAP Solution Manager to
support the operation of a certain sce­
nario or function. The function might be
IT administration, change manage­ment,
or data volume management. During
morning training sessions, the partici­pant
learns how to configure SAP Solution
Manager to perform the target­ed work,
what procedures must be set up, and
how and when to carry out those proce­
dures to perform the work most effec­
tively. Then, in afternoon “lab sessions,”
the participant performs exactly the tasks
learned in the morning, with access
during this time to an expert when ques­
tions arise or extra guidance is required.
The three core training elements are
combined as follows:
• Training – During daily morning Web
sessions lasting between two and
three hours, an SAP expert explains
step-by-step the function to be set up
and the implementation procedure
required. The customer can follow
along using the training materials.
• Practical phase – For between two
and four hours in the afternoon, a
practical phase takes place during
which participants implement in their
SAP Solution Manager the steps
explained during the morning session.
• Expertise on demand – During the
practical phase, lasting between two
and three hours, the participants have
direct access to the SAP expert, if
implementation support is required.

During the morning training session
of the expert-guided implementation,
an SAP expert takes you through the
various implementation steps, explains
context and background, and gives you
the opportunity to comment and ask
questions. In the afternoon practical
phase, you perform the steps in your
SAP Solution Manager. To allow you
sufficient time to perform the imple­
mentation steps in SAP Solution
Manager in the afternoon, the content
provided to you in the morning is
divided into manageable logical units.
During the afternoon phase, you have
direct access to back-office experts
who provide help with any questions or
issues that arise.
The aim of the expert-guided imple­men­
tation method is to guide you through
the performance of all necessary imple­
mentation steps within a defined number
of days. At the end of this period, the
function and processes you implemented
in your SAP Solution Manager are ready
to go into productive operation and you
are equipped with the knowledge you

General Technical Requirements1
The following technical requirements
must be met in order to take advantage
of the expert-guided implementation
training:
• SAP Solution Manager, release 7.0,
must be installed.
• SAP Solution Manager must be con­
nected to the SAP network via the
SAPNet intranet portal – Web front-
end remote function call (previously
called SAP online service system).
• An “S” user ID is required for the
SAP Service Marketplace extranet,
with the appropriate authorizations
