The East Tennessee
District has one of the
finest Ministerial
Teams in all the
World ! We want to en-
courage you to plan now to
Celebrate the Ministry Fam-
ilies in your local Congrega-
tions throughout the month
of October. The New Testa-
ment honors vocational
ministry as one of God’s
highest callings. First Thes-
salonians 5:13-14 asks
church members “to re-
spect those who work hard
among you, who are over
you in the Lord and who
admonish you. Hold them
in the highest regard in love
because of their work.” Ephesians 4:11-12 says God gave the Church pastors and other ministry leaders
“to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Pastors are
God’s gifts to His people and are worthy of recognition for their willing and faithful service.
Pastor Appreciation Month is an opportunity for local congregations to give thanks to God for their pastors.
It is a time to demonstrate to their pastor’s genuine appreciation for their service. It is a time to esteem the
role of the vocational Christian ministers who provide churches with spiritual direction. It is a time to stress
the need for others to answer God’s call to full-time ministry.
When the Apostle Paul remembered with joy the people in the church at Philippi, he spoke of their
“partnership in the gospel (Philippians 1:5).” Ministry is a partnership of ministers and lay people—each
helping the other to be effective in witness and work for Christ. The church cannot function effectively un-
less both do their part to build up each other. When churches honor their pastor, they strengthen the team
God has put together to serve Him in their com-munity. By showing appreciation they return some of the
love, concern and ministry their pastor has given to them. (taken from “ Pastor Appreciation Sunday, A lo-
cal Church planning Guide”
October is typically designated as Clergy/Pastor Appreciation Month. Every Church Board Secretary
should receive communications from both General Church as well as District Leaders. There are resources
and suggestions for planning and implementing special services and ways to show your love at both
www.nazarenepastor.org and www.parsonage.org
Check with your Church Board Secretary to see how you can help make this a special month for you Minis-
try Leaders.
Feel free to call our district office (931-393-1055) if you have any questions or need more suggestions.

THANK YOU, EAST TENNESSEE!

2018 “Valentines for Jesus” Offering Made for a
Great First Day of School in Papua New Guinea!

Pure delight is a Skype call from Papua New Guinea, last Friday
night, with Stephanie Miller! She and the other parents of MKs on
Kudjip Station, PNG, were busy setting up the new school, renovated
with the $13,385 raised by kids in E TN churches in the 2018
"Valentines for Jesus" offering.
Stephanie promised pictures, and delivered, with a big "THANK
YOU, E TN," on the first day of school at Kudjip mission station in Pa-
pua New Guinea!
It appears that all is ready for the new school year!

Students are thrilled with their new school! Notice those

bare feet!
Everyone is expected to remove shoes when entering a
building such as a home or school in Papua New Guinea.
Stephanie and Justin may as well expect Amber Joy to Our own little MK, Amber Joy Miller is happy to be in her

them on home assignment next summer!

What a beautiful new school library!

Thank you, East Tennessee Kids!
There are 1,600 people living and working on Kudjip Mission Station in Papua New Guinea. The Nazarene
Hospital is the center of the station, which also includes a college of nursing. It is one of the most remote
places on earth, so our missionaries make huge sacrifices to serve their Lord by serving the people of Papua
New Guinea.
Above is a picture, from the air, of the valley and mountains that surround Kudjip.
Arrows indicate the hospital and the Millers’ home. All three Millers look forward to being with us at our
NMI Convention and assembly next summer, July 9-11, 2019!
Blessings,

Teresa Hodge
