1. What is difference between replica & new copy?

Replica is a copy of database which having the same replica ID which share during the replication process and new copy
is a simple copy of database which don't have any replica ID and further u cannot replicate from it's original database

2. What is different type of administrator?

• Full access administrator -- gets all rights and privileges of all administration access levels listed.
• Administrator -- gets all rights and privileges of database administrator and full-console administrator (but not system
administrator).
• Full console administrator -- gets rights and privileges of view-only console administrator (but not system
administrator)
• System administrator -- gets rights and privileges of restricted system administrator

3. If user forgot his password how will recover the password?

• If you have recovery information set up for your user ID on your server the recovery password is randomly generated
and unique to each recoverable ID file and administrator. When you first log in to Notes and the Password dialog box
appears do not enter your password. Just click OK.
• Click "Recover Password" in the "Wrong password" dialog box.
• Select the user ID file to recover in the "Choose ID File to Recover" dialog box.
• Enter the password(s) given to you by your administrator(s) in the "Enter Passwords" dialog box, and repeat until you
have entered all of the passwords, and you are prompted to enter a new password for your user ID.
• Enter a new password for your ID, and confirm the password when prompted

4 How will u access the admin client, if u forget administrator password?

You can use another user id with administrator Rights
OR If you are using R6 and above, you can use server ID and then make the necessary changes
OR Replace the Administrator with the Default ID, which will have Default password. And after that you will
be able to access the Admin client.

5. What is ODS Version of R5 & R6 & R7?

File Ext Version ODS
? V3 17

.nsf V7 43
From version 5 lotus support > 4GB size, transaction logging, in-place compaction

6. When will set the pull type of replication in server?

Forces a one-way replication from the specified server to your server. Replicate a single database from the specified
server to your server we are using pull command by including the database name on the command line

7. What will do if server get hang?

It’s very difficult to take a single step …..There are so many reasons to get server hang.
Either your mail.box is corrupt & there are some hardware issue u can check log file and analyze your problem and try to
resolve it

8. What is parameter of notes.ini?

There are a number of parameters in Lotus Domino's notes.ini configuration file that affect ... For example, these are the
server task entries in notes.ini:
ServerTasks=Update, Replica, Router, AMgr, AdminP, CalConn, Sched
ServerTasksAt1=Catalog, Design
ServerTasksAt2=UpdAll
ServerTasksAt3=Object Info -Full
ServerTasksAt5=Statlog
9 Basic router command?
Tell Router Delivery Stats
It will Shows you Router delivery statistics.
Tell Router Compact
Compacts MAIL.BOX and cleans up open Router queues. You can use this command to compact
MAIL.BOX at any time. If more than one MAIL.BOX is configured for the server, each MAIL.BOX database will be
compacted in sequence.
By default, MAIL.BOX is automatically compacted at 4 AM.
Tell Router Show Queues
Shows mail held in transfer queues to specific servers and mail held in the local delivery queue
Tell Router Exit || Tell Router Quit
Stops the Router task on a server.
Tell Router Update Config
Updates the server's routing tables to immediately modify how messages are routed. This removes the 5
minute delay before a Router configuration change takes effect

for better info:-http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedbookAbstracts/tips0421.html?Open

10. How internal & external Mail routing work? Give with example
When user send a mail NRPC (Notes protocols) to deposit the message into the MAIL.BOX database on the user's
Domino mail server. The Router finds the message in MAIL.BOX and determines where to send the message for each
recipient. The Router checks its routing table to calculate the next "hop" for the message on the path to its recipients and
determines the appropriate protocol -- either SMTP or Notes routing -- to transfer the message.

Using SMTP routing, the Router connects to the destination server -- the recipient's mail server, a relay host, a smart
host, or one of the servers in the recipient's Internet domain -- and transfers the message.

Using Notes routing, the Router moves the message to the MAIL.BOX database on the server that is the next hop in the
path to the recipient's mail server. The Router on that server transfers the message to the next hop, until the message is
deposited in the MAIL.BOX database on the recipient's home server. The Router on the recipient's server finds the
message (in MAIL.BOX on a Domino server) and delivers it to the recipient's mail file

11.what is ACL & type?

1. No Access
2. Depositor
3. Reader
4.Author
5.Editor
6.Designer
7. Manager

12 What is smart host? What is relay host? And difference between these two?
Smart host Is a third party server (may be UNIX) which lotus uses for receiving of incoming mails for local domain
recipient.
Relay Host Is also third party server which may be used in lotus for relaying mails to SMTP mail recipient

13 What is home server?

Home server is the server on which the mail DB resides.

14. What will be do when replication stop between the two server?
Stop showing the effect, (i.e.) if you make any change in a server 1 it will not be reflected in server 2 and vice versa.

15 How will set the web mail?

I didn't get what do you want to ask me.. But web mail can be configured. Http task should be running in order for web
mail to work...

16. Agents command ---------- http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/library/ls-Troubleshooting_agents_ND5_6/

Tell amgr schedule
Tell amgr status
Tell amgr debug
Tell amgr run
Tell amgr cancel
Tell amgr show agents
Load amgr -?

18. What is a maximum database size in Domino?

The maximum database size is 64GB on Windows and UNIX

19. How will convert the entire mail file in to .ntf by command
You can convert entire mail file by ntf command the command which we use are as follows:
Load convert -c mail\ {Database name}.nsf {Name of that particular ntf}
Ex: If I convert the mail file then the command is
Load convert -c mail\ {user mail file}.nsf inotes6.ntf

20. What are maximum database sizes in Domino?

64 GB

21. How will secure your console?

Lotus Admin-> Server-> Status-> Server Tasks-> Server-> Secure Console->

1.Enter a new password in the "Console password" field.|| 2.Re-enter the same password in the "Verif" field.|| 3.Choose
Set.|| 4.Click OK.
Change an existing server console password
1.Click Change. The Change Console Password dialog box appears.|| 2.Enter the current password.|| 3.Enter the new
password.|| 4.Re-enter the new password.|| 5.Click OK.|| 6.Exit out of the Secure Console dialog box by clicking Cancel.
To remove a server console password
1. Enter the current password || 2.Click Clear.|| 3.Click OK.

22 How will convert the entire mail file in to .ntf by command

I could not understand the question.. if it is for changing the design template of the mail file.. The command is
load convert mail\mailfile name templatename.ntf

23. What type of mailing group?

Multi-purpose: Use for a group that has multiple purposes -- for example, mail, ACLs, and so on. This is the default.
Access Control List only: Use for server and database access authentication only.
Mail only: Use for mailing list groups.
Servers only: Use in Connection documents and in the Domino Administration client's domain bookmarks for grouping.
Deny List only: Use to control access to servers. Typically used to prevent terminated employees from accessing servers,
but this type of group can be used to prevent any user from accessing particular servers. The Administration Process
cannot delete any member of the group.

24. Which group not find in names.nsf?

Deny list only is the group which is not founded in the group’s view of the domino directory

25. If your server gets crash what you do as administrator?

These topics describe problems and errors that may cause a server crash:
Corrupt database causes a server to crash
Corrupt view causes a server to crash
Server crashes while updating a database index
The Router task causes the server to crash

25. If agent is not working on the server?

The same case with the agent not functioning too... There could be several reasons for it... anyway just try to run the
agent manually and then check the agent log for the error.

26. If user saying that he is not receiving the mail from outside domain what u will do to troubleshoot the
problem?
I would first like to check the person document of the gateway incom’g mail ser.. If that’s fine..I will check the log file..

27. If mail is not routing from one server to anther server?

There could be many reasons for mail routing not functioning... The problem may be with the network link, Router task
not running on the server... etc...

28 How to check queues in the router?

Tell router show || Tell router show queue

29 Reasons for server not responding error....how will u troubleshoot?

If server is not running, or network cable unplugged (if on some other machine), if machine IP address is different than
defined in server document etc. could b other reasons as well.

30. Content of user id?

Domino uses ID files to identify users and to control access to servers. Every Domino server, Notes certifier, and Notes
user must have an ID. When you register users and servers, Domino automatically creates their IDs. An ID file contains:
The owner's name: A user ID file may contain one alternate name.
A certifier ID may contain multiple alternate names.
A permanent license number: This number indicates that the owner is legal and specifies whether the owner has a North
American or International license to run Domino or Notes.
At least one Notes certificate from a certifier ID: A Notes certificate is a digital signature added to a user ID or server ID.
This signature, which is generated from the private key of a certifier ID, verifies that the name of the owner of the ID is
correctly associated with a specific public key.
A private key: Notes uses the private key to sign messages sent by the owner of the private key, to decrypt messages sent
to its owner, and, if the ID belongs to a certifier, to sign certificates.

31 What is the registration server?

Ans: A server which registers new users, server, OU and Organization and initially stores these document in the Domino
directory until the replicate
until the next replication occurs.

32 What is the administration server?

Ans: An Administration server controls how the Administration process does its work. It stores the requested work in the
administration request database and then processes them accordingly to their status. By default first server in the domino
domain is the Admin server for the Domino directory which maintains its ACL, performs deletion, name change and
replicate to the other server in the DNN.

33 What is the administration process?

Ans: The Admin process is a program which automates many routine administrative tasks such as Name management
task (Rename/delete user and group), Mail file management task (Delete/Move mail file, ACL changes, enabling agents),
and Replica management task (Create/Move/Delete replicas).
OR
All the Administration process is submitted to Administration Request Database, which on certain intervals; carry out the
Administration Process using AdminP tool.
34 What is difference between Manager Access & designer access?
The major diff between designer and manager access is manager can edit ACL (execution control List) entry but
designer can not modify ACL entry
35 What is the difference between registration & administration server.
Ans: 1. Both Def.
2. Registration Server maintains the Names.nsf database while Admin server maintains the Admin4.nsf database.
3. By default there is one primary Admin server W.R.T. Hub-Spoke topology whereas registration server can be more
than one in a domain.
OR
Registration server is the firstone server that a user or server will be register or created in Domain (usually the nearest
server). Administration Server is the Server responsible to make changes in a Database (name change, delete change,
etc)
OR
The registration server can be anyone within the domain in which you can register users/servers etc. but there will be
only one administration server for a domain.
OR
Registration Server: The serve where the users are registered. It is not necessarily being Administration Server. For
Example, there are 2 servers in the Domino Environment (Server 1 and Server 2). When you are registering user ABC on
Server 1, and XYZ on Server 2, then Server 1 becomes the Registration server for User ABC and Server 2 become
registration server for XYZ.
Administration Server: Administration Server is the Server where all the AdminP process is carried out. By Default, the
First Server installed in a Domino Environment becomes the Administration Server. If required Administration Server
can be changed.

36 How do work administration process in background.

Ans: Adminp works in background with the help of different components like AdminP server Task (Starts by default on
all server starts), Administrator client (Domino/Web) (Different Tools), Domino Directory (It provides set of instructions
with AdminP For instance, when a user is renamed, the certificate information is changed. This is stored in a Person
document in the Domino Directory. When the renaming process is in progress, this is indicated in the Person document
under the Change Request field), Certification Logs Database (Certlog.nsf database created when server installed it
works assigning new certificates), Admin4.nsf and administer

37 What is ECL and can we implement the ECL from server side.
Ans: An ECL is used to set up workstation data security. It lets you control which formulas and scripts created by
another user can run on your workstation. Yes workstation ECL is updated/Implement from Server Admin's ECL by
creating a Security policy document.

38 Can we make the HUB server from spoke server?

(Like ADC - DC & Vice Versa)
OR
Yes, by changing the Settings in the Server n Configuration Document. But this involves lot of Work. So it has to be
done as a project.

39 How many types of policy.

Explicit: To create a policy to assign to specific users and groups.
Organizational: To create a policy that is automatically assigned to all users in the part of the organization specified in
the Policy name field.

40 one group which is already exists, if we want to deploy the explicit policy on them what is the step.
Select group->select groups from Tool panes->click assign policy. (An Explicit policy always override the
Organizational policy...see by Policy synopsis)

41 How we take the lotus server backup.

Ans: Backup files: All ID files (Servers/Users), All Database (Data folder->NSF+NTF)
42 When will we set the pull type of replication in server?
suppose there are 2 servers A n B
pull type replication mins
first let me tell what is initiating srv n target srv
Initiating server mins from where the changes has been done n target server mins from where the changes will be
reflected.

a(ini srv) b( trgt srv)

now if u made this, the changes will be pulled from b to a (i.e.) any changes done in b will be seen in a but any changes
done in a will not be seen / reflected in b.
as a is pull type.

43 E-mail "notifier" and it says "Hey you've got mail

I have an e-mail "notifier" and it says "Hey you've got mail". But in inbox emails are showing as already opened. Means
new mail also looks like opened any idea?
The solution for your problem:
1) Exit the Lotus Notes Client.
2) Search/go to the file "notes.ini".
3) Open it with "Notepad".
4) Just somewhere in the middle of the contents, there is a line starting with "NewSeqNum". It will read as:
NewSeqNum=xxxx234387xxxx
5) Remove the numbers after the "equal-to"(=) and make it '0'(Zero).
6) Save and close the "notes.ini" file.
7) Open the Notes client and do a test mail process.
(OR)
If so, then re-run the compact command on the database using following parameters
Load compact mail\<databasename.nsf> -c -i -U -K.

44 Is there any way to stop Return Receipt

Create an agent to your mailbox:
agent name : "Before mail arrives"
SELECT @IsAvailable( ReturnReceipt );
FIELD ReturnReceipt := @DeleteField;
I do not know the notes.ini parameter, if anybody knows then pls share it.....
(OR)
A simpler way is to preview mails in the preview pane rather than opening it. This will not send out a return receipt. But
of course, once you open the mail, the return receipt will be sent.

45 How to Move the user from one OU to another OU

Go to the Server Address Book. Then select the person whom u wants to move and then go to Actions-> Rename
selected people. A new box opens up and in there u will see an option of "Request Move to New Certifier". Click on that
and then choose the destination OU certifier and proceed. After this is done, go to the Admin4.nsf and complete the OU
change. U will also find more information in the Admin Help File.

46 Mail Routing Issue (Urgent)

My domino server is sending the emails to all the domains except hotmail.com. It doesn’t show any routing error msg. I
am getting the delivery failure report after 24 hrs approx. The message is '' Your message Subject: TEST MSG was not
delivered to:xxxxx@hotmail.com because: Delivery time expired."
Kindly help me in this regards......
-----
May be u will have to coordinate with vendor company who is responsible for MXpointer,
There is problem with Forward or Reverse lookup zone. Mab be this could help u. I m not exactly sure !
-----
Thanks to all of you for ur suggestions..... But FYI it start sending emails to hotmail.com automatically after 3 to 4
days... and I didn't made any changes...

47 How to Enable Web Access?

I have installed Domino 6.5 Sever and everything is working OK....
Now the problem is that no user is able to access their web mail including "webadmin". It simply prompts "This page
cannot be displayed"
What might be wrong? Thanks in advance.
-----
Below are the necessary settings required for setting up web access.
1. Make sure user's mail file template is inotes6.ntf
2. Make sure the internet password is populated in person document.
If mail file template is not inotes6.ntf then replace the design of mail file with inotes.ntf template from File -> Database
-> Replace Design
Once you do above activity, press CTRL + SHIFT + F9 all at once to refresh the views.
Most important thing is to have HTTP task running on your domino server. If its running then just restart it after
performing above activity.
Please let me know if you need any further help.. Thanks
-----
There are chances that port 80 is no open on firewall...so that's also required to check....And ya since all users face this
issue, need to check that HTTP running perfectly or not...
-----
Thank you all for the response...
It's working...problem was with the http port...

48 Access deny to servers.

In my office i have both lotus client and outlook client. I created access deny group and added member to that group. But
this will work only for lotus notes client users.
Outlook users still can able to access server using internet password. But I should work for both.
----
Deny access list is only for notes clients
For Outlook/POP3/IMAP/HTTP etc just delete the internet password on the person doc and they will not be able to
access the server anymore using outlook

49 Unable to delete mail file

Issue dbcache flush command multiple times
If still the problem persists
If the server is UNIX server.. You can delete it using rm -f OS command
----
If it is windows
Dbcache flush multiple times should solve the problem
Also drop all users before issuing dbcache flush.

50 Suppose if a user loses 10 days mails, how they can be restored.

Mails can be restored only if the backup is maintained.

51 How can an online server are upgraded.

Not sure… as far as I know, the domino server cannot be upgraded while it is running.

52 How to check the connectivity between 2 servers in different domain.

Connectivity between two servers can be checked using “Trace <Destination Server Name>” . If servers are in different
domains then they should have connection documents to route or replicate mails.

53 How to diagnose replication problem in cluster.

To diagnose replication problems… you need to manually replicate the cluster servers and through console replication.
And if there is any error, it is visible on the console..

54 Difference between fixup and compact

Fixup task runs for fixing up the database and compact task is used for the compacting the unused space on the database.
55 How cluster works?
All the servers in a Domino cluster continually communicate with each other to keep updated on the status of each server
and to keep database replicas synchronized. Each server in a cluster contains cluster components that are installed with
the Lotus Domino 7 Enterprise server or the Lotus Domino 7 Utility server. These components, and the Administration
Process, perform the cluster management and monitoring tasks that run the cluster and let you administer the cluster. The
components keep replica databases synchronized, and they communicate with each other to ensure that the cluster is
running efficiently and smoothly. They also let you set limits for workload balancing, track the availability of servers and
databases, and add servers and databases to the cluster.
To take advantage of failover and workload balancing, you distribute databases and replicas throughout the cluster. You
do not need a replica of every database on every server. The number of replicas you create for a database depends on
how busy the database is and how important it is for users to have constant access to that database. For some databases,
you may not need to create any replicas; for others, you may need to create multiple replicas.

56 What type of replication?

Pull Pull -------- Pull Pull does not work with a cluster name.
Pull Push (default)
Pull Only
Push Only
OR
1. Pull type
2. Push type
3. Pull push type -- Used in hub-and-spoke Servers
Explain:-
1. When the changes in the target server get reflected in the initiating server.
2. When the changes in the initiate server get reflected in the target server.
3. When both happen means first pull, then push.

57 What type of mailing group?

Mail Only
ACL only
Multipurpose
Deny list
Servers only

58 How does u create a mail.box?

A mail.box can be created by selecting the server's configuration document-->Router/SMTP -->basics tab, we can
change the setting... In the configuration doc acc to our convenience
& a mail.box can be created by starting the server for the first time..

59 How does u create a 2 mail.box for routing mails on a domino server?

Multiple mai.box can be created by changing the default value of the server's config doc -->Router/SMTP -->basics tab
and restarting the server.

60 What if a mail.box gets corrupted? How will u solve it without shutting down the domino server?
When a mail.box gets corrupted, usually we can stop the router and then work with fixup and compact commands, still if
the problem persists, we need to stop the server and take the backup of the mail.box and delete it from the original
destination and then start the server... as we start the server a new mail.box will be created...

61 In a registration which field is mandatory?

In user registration, last name field is a must.
OR Password field is mandatory for registering the certifier id
62 What is replica ID?
Replica id is used to recognize multiple databases which r replicated from the same database..

63 You get a RXX error and the server shutdowns abruptly very often ...what would be de reason and how u
would solve it.
RRV error arises due to corruption in the names.nsf of the server... Then we need to delete and take the backup of the
existing names.nsf and copy the names.nsf from the different server of the same domino domain and paste it in the
server's data folder and start the server.

64 To shift lotus domino server to a different server. What all files/folders would u shift or copy to the other
server to start in minutes
To shift Domino Server from one server to another server, we need to copy names.nsf, server.id, notes.ini, and the whole
data directory if the domino server is the primary server...

65 What is NSD error for?

NSD log files can help determine the cause of a server or workstation crash. A program called NSD (nsd.exe for W32
platforms, nsd.sh for Unix platforms) creates these files in the Domino data directory (for a server) or in the Notes data
directory (for a workstation). The files contain information about the tasks which were running when it crashed as well
as general system information.

66 Why mailbox corrupts? How it can be repaired?

Mail.box gets corrupted due to corrupt mails.. It can be repaired by using the fixup and compact the commands.

67 Why mail gets delayed in transfer?

There are many reasons for mail getting delayed... but usually a mail may get delayed due to the unavailability of the
next routing server...

68 A user is not receiving mails but able to send mails, why?

The reason may be the user's mail quota has exceeded. When a user's mail quota exceeds he will not be able to receive
mails but can send mails.. But his sent copy will not be stored in the sent folder of the mail database.

69 A user is not able to send/receive mails?

The reason is the user is using the offline database of the mail file..

70 What does router in lotus notes?

Router task transfers the mail between the two servers.

71 How mail routing works?

It's a big scenario to explain mail routing here.. but in brief.. Mail is routed from the notes client to the server's
mail.box using mailer task and from the server's mail.box to the next server's mail.box router task takes care of it. And
from the server's mail.box to the mail database again the mailer task is involved.

72 Explain transaction mails logging, mail tracking?

Transaction logging logs all the tasks running on the domino.... no further idea about it..
and mail tracking .. tracks your messages sent/received on the server.

73 Why this message comes in sending a mail “address not listed in domino directory.”?
"Address not listed in domino directory".. This error is raised if the recipient’s name is not found in the domino
directory..

74 Lotus Notes listen on which port?

At port 1352 (by the way Domino server listen to this port from Lotus Notes clients as client connects to domino server
using this port by default)
OR Notes listens on port 1352,
Sametime Server to server communicates on port 1516 and client to server communicates on 1533.
75 Differentiate replica & New copy? What is basic difference?
Replica occurs between the two databases only if their replica id is unique. New copy the contents in both the
databases cannot be synchronize later.

76 What is encryption?
Encryption protects data from unauthorized access. Using Notes and Domino, you can encrypt:
Messages sent to other users: Then an unauthorized user cannot read the message while it is in transit. You can also
encrypt saved and incoming messages.
Network ports: Encrypting information sent between a Notes workstation and a Domino server, or between two Domino
servers, prevents unauthorized users from reading the data while it is in transit.
SSL transactions: You can use SSL to encrypt information sent between an Internet client, such as a Notes client, and an
Internet server, to prevent unauthorized users from reading the data while it is in transit.
Fields, documents, and databases: Application developers can encrypt fields within a document, an entire document, and
local databases. Then only the specified users can read the information.

77 Period of Id recertification for a client and a server

Recertification period varies from ID to ID as its on Administrator will how long s/he defines the time of ID Expiry.
Expiry date can be verified from ID properties box.
OR 2yrs is correct

78 cmd to show all running task

Command for all tasks "Show Tasks" or "sh ta" (Abbreviated form)

79 what will be do when replication stop between the two server?

Replication may fail due to various aspects between the servers.. The reason might be due to ACL between the servers,
or replication settings between the databases of the servers... This can be resolved only by looking at the production
environment not with the virtual environment.

80 What is NAT?
NAT is a method of translating an IP address between two address spaces: a public space and a
private space.
Public addresses are assigned to companies by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and
Numbers (ICANN) or leased from the company's ISP/NSP. Public addresses are accessible through
the Internet (routable) unless firewalls and isolated networks make them inaccessible.
Private addresses are IP address spaces that have been reserved for internal use. These addresses
are not accessible over the Internet (non-routable) because network routers within the Internet will
not allow access to them.
The following address spaces have been reserved for internal use. It is best to use these IP
addresses and not make up your own.
• Class A: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
• Class B: 127.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
• Class C: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
For example, users inside a company access the Domino server based on its assigned IP address, which is
a private address (192.168.1.1). Internet users must access the Domino server through a NAT router,
which converts the private address to one of its static public addresses (130.20.2.2). Therefore, a Notes
client accessing the server from the Internet uses the public address.
Hierarchical naming for servers and users
Hierarchical naming is the cornerstone of Domino security; therefore planning it is a critical
task. Hierarchical names provide unique identifiers for servers and users in a company. When
you register new servers and users, the hierarchical names drive their certification, or their
level of access to the system, and control whether users and servers in different organizations
and organizational units can communicate with each another.
Before you install Domino servers, create a diagram of your company and use the diagram to
plan a meaningful name scheme. Then create certifier IDs to implement the name scheme
and ensure a secure system.
A hierarchical name scheme uses a tree structure that reflects the actual structure of a
company. At the top of the tree is the organization name, which is usually the company name.
Below the organization name are organizational units, which you create to suit the structure of
the company; you can organize the structure geographically, departmentally, or both.
For example, the Acme company created this diagram for their servers and users:

Looking at Acme's diagram, you can see where they located their servers in the tree. Acme
decided to split the company geographically at the first level and create certifier IDs for the
East and West organizational units. At the next level down, Acme made its division according
to department.
Components of a hierarchical name
A hierarchical name reflects a user's or server's place in the hierarchy and controls whether
users and servers in different organizations and organizational units can communicate with
each another. A hierarchical name may include these components:
• Common name (CN) -- Corresponds to a user's name or a server's name. All names must
include a common name component.
• Organizational unit (OU) -- Identifies the location of the user or server in the organization.
Domino allows for a maximum of four organizational units in a hierarchical name.
Organizational units are optional.
• Organization (O) -- Identifies the organization to which a user or server belongs. Every
name must include an organization component.
• Country (C) --Identifies the country in which the organization exists. The country is
optional.
An example of a hierarchical name that uses all of the components is:
Julia Herlihy/Sales/East/Acme/US
Typically a name is entered and displayed in this abbreviated format, but it is stored internally
in canonical format, which contains the name and its associated components, as shown below:

What is a Notes ID file?
The Notes ID is a unique file that identifies a legitimate Domino server or Notes user. A Notes ID is a
passport to enter Notes. Notes IDs are created by a Domino administrator and contain the following
information:
• Name of the ID owner and possibly one alternate name
• Notes license number
• At least one certificate from a Certifier ID
• A public and private key
• Password
• An Internet certificate used to secure SSL connections and encrypt and sign S/MIME mail
messages (optional for Notes client only)
• Encryption keys

The Notes ID is required to install the full client. It is also the only way to access the Notes servers with the full
client. The ID file is one of the security features of Lotus Notes.

1. What is Author and Reader fields? and difference?

1. Is it is possible to make 100 id files at a time in Lotus notes
YES using import feature.

2. I am creating an additional mail server in the same domain, is connection documents are must.
YES

3. What is NRPC
Notes remote procedure call (NRPC)
Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino run over the NRPC protocol on top of each supported LAN protocol
__________*
For the 2nd question,

I doubt whether the connection document is required for an additional server in the same domain....I mean,
when an additional server is set up...a connection document is automatically created but not required to
create manually...

Plz discuss...
-------------*
Hi...

Connection Document is must, However its getting created automatically while configuring the additonal
server.
-----------*
1. Is it is possible to make 100 id files at a time in Lotus notes
Yes we can create as many ID Files at a Time using import feature.

2. I am creating an additional mail server in the same domain, is connection documents are must.
No,It is not necessary to create a connection document in same domain. This is because, connection
document is used only for mail routing and scheduling the Replication. In case of same domain mail routing
goes automatically as all the server are going to share the same domino directory. So the the purpose of
connection doc in same domain is only scheduling the replication between servers if we want(not
necessary).
The concept of connection document is useful amongs the server that belongs to the different domain.
3. What is NRPC
Notes remote procedure call is the default communication protocol for Lotus Notes uses to transfer the
message from one domino server to other server. It works on port 1352.
--------------------*

correction on question 2

if the notes servers are on the same NNN (NotesNamedNetwork) you do not need a connection document
for mail routing

But however, for replication you will need one.

I guess that wld be the anser they are looking for ;)
