Melting Moments !!
Well we can tell you all the Front Sportsbar and Club talk this week has been about the
recent meltdowns. Serena Williams bought back memories of the many John McEnroe
spats with her firestorm meltdown verbal attack on Portuguese umpire Carlos Ramos in
the US Open. Now we understand the Tennis Umpires association are considering strike
action should Serena not apologise. With so much happening did Donald Trump tweet
something about building an Umpires Wall. Then the Collingwood Pres Eddie Every-
where got caught on camera in Perth having his good two bobs worth which was fine
really . But Eddie’s attack on Melbourne Radio Monday morning about the AFL’s finals
programming was the melted cream on the cake this week. Meanwhile in SANFL news
Marty Mattner is now off to the Crows coaching panel and that all happened in the blink
of an eye Sturt fans!!Could the North Adelaide Roosters 27 year drought be broken this
year ,we certainly think so and its great to see their supporters get behind them .
It's a long season at any level of football. Preseason
training starts early November and the hard slog
continued through the scorching Australian summer
and then onto the winter chills when the real season
was underway. There's times when you can't wait to
slip the boots on because you can't get enough of
the club and then there's times when you wake up
and wish for nothing more than to stay in bed.
In my day the escape from the pressure of winning
and performing came straight after a game. Sinking a
pint or two back at the club with the members and
your teammates was all that was needed. My favourite time was after training on a Mon-
day nights. It was just you and your teammates. In my Melbourne days the local establish-
ment was a pub called Naughtons. It was less than a K from the club and was mandatory
that you popped in after training. This was a chance to bond with your teammates over an
ale and hide from the outside pressures that could make or break a career.
First year and 200 plus game player mixed socially in a environment that the powers to be
knew that it was happening, but chose to ignore it. The benefits quite simply outweighed
the downsides. Lasting friendships were built on our Monday nights.
This now brings me onto the mad Mondays. Once a team has finished its season, players
meet up on the following Monday and let their hair down.
Only recently have players don fancy dress to add colour and humour to the day. This tradi-
tion isn't only embraced by AFL players but has gone right through all levels of Aussie foot-
ball and other codes of sport. The majority of players do the right thing. Dress up, drink up
then go to bed. Then there's a small minority that make fools of themselves. Alcohol can
make certain people do stupid, regretful things. Staying in control is my only advice I can
give teams celebrating their achievements. But that's easily said than done.
Loyalty to one club has become lost to this new generation of footballers. Maybe a few
more Monday nights and mad Mondays might install a bond that they don't wish to break.

AFL Finals Tips By Mark Naley
As enjoyed at the Flagstaff Hotel ,Darlington
HAWKS V MELBOURNE - I was impressed by Melbourne last weekend with the return of
Viney to lead the team. They play a great style of football that should be to quick for Haw-
thorn.
COLLINGWOOD V GIANTS. This will be a fantastic game. Both teams played well last
week with the Giants looking dangerous and the Magpies going down in Perth. In Mel-
bourne you would normally back the home team, but the Giants have found form at the
right time of the season which will see them progress to the preliminary final.
SANFL Preliminary Final Tip by Grenville Dietrich
Always enjoyed at the Portland Hotel, Port Adelaide
In one of the very few games each year that after the contest I really can't feel like a loser,
but this game both sides are playing for high
stakes. A crack at the Redlegs for the 2018 SANFL
Premiership. WOODVILLE/WEST TORRENS v
NORTH is looking like another game that can go
either way depending on the weather that can
once again deliver us with unseasonal weather
that will make tipping a winner a bit of a lottery.
The Eagles really took it up to Norwood last week
and showed that there isn't much between the
top sides at this time of the year, but once again
it was North's fitness and never stop attacking
the ball and the body that impressed me the
most on the weekend against a valiant and under manned Sturt. It was the experienced
North and Eagle players that set the standard for there respective sides last weekend, but
it was the young lads in Rozee and Woodcock that have really given me the confidence to
put the Eagles away and earn a spot in this years big dance. TIP: NORTH by 28
points.....Good luck to Josh Carr and Mickey Godden and there charges.

After the first round of the AFL Finals only four entrants remain alive in the National
Knock Out Comp No 1 worth $2,500. In the National Knock Out Comp No2 there are still
19 live entrants chasing the $2,500 prize including two from S.A. being Stuey Telford
from the S.A. Hotel, Mount Gambier and Marty Baldry from the Enfield Hotel.

Morphettville Chatter
Further to last weeks whip’s story we can confirm
that trainer Jim Smith has in his safe keeping a very
famous French Whip. The whip was given to Jim by the
famous Champion jockey Billy Pyers that he carried to
victory on Romantic Son in the 1973 Christmas Handicap
and the Washington D.C. International on Dahlia for well
known owner Nelson Bunker Hunt. This whip would not
be permitted today for race riding today because of it’s
length but it gained special permission to be used from the head steward of the day at
Cheltenham back in 1973.
The 4.05 AM Monday morning facebook post from Bjorn Baker at the Warwick Farm
Trainers Hut of James Cummings shouting apple turnover and cream after a successful
Saturday certainly had the Morphettville trainers at “The Do Drop Inn “ licking their lips
in future anticipation of the next local trainers shout.
The sand track at headquarters will closed for a few weeks for a full upgrade. Jockey
Sairyn Fawke is moving to the South East to increase his riding opportunities . The Local
trackside/ mounting yard / condition ratings watcher came up trumps last Saturday
with the Brian Mueller trained Just Kappy winning the NJT Handicap at $50. Trust there
is a bonus coming from THE FIRM. The tall blonde and popular Instagram model from
Melbourne that attended last Saturday’s NJT luncheon hosted by John Letts also turned
a few heads in heads in the mounting yard including the raceday stewards. Ryan Balfour
reported the road trip to Naracoorte last Sunday was a good time to have a crack at this
papers sports quizzes from past editions to pass the time. We are sure the trip home
also went well as the stables 10 year old Ogunde won after $8 was bet. The popular tv
advert for the Pino Silvestre fragrance—”If it wasn’t for Pino” has certainly struck a cult
following at the track, in fact we even have our own Morphettville Pino and now his
brother Romo has changed fragrance brands. Also some local hotel wags have suggest-
ed. some trainers and jockeys should also switch to Pino to improve their strike rate!!

Shares in a lease have just become available for the very well put together
two year old Filly by the VRC Derby Winner Rebel Raider out of the mare
Honour Own. Who knows she could well be the next Winx !!

NRL Finals by The Dugong

Well the first week of Finals didn’t disappoint
unless you are a Brisbane Broncos supporter,
as has happened a few times this year the
wrong side turned up.
With Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters
winning the Qualifying finals they enjoy this
weekend off and looking at the Roosters
dressing sheds after the game, they will
certainly enjoy the week off..
Friday night, Semi Final Cronulla Sharks
vs Penrith Panthers This is the game of the round Players to watch
Cronulla, Moylan, Townsend, Holmes— Penrith, Maloney, Cleary,
Both Moylan and Maloney will be out to control their teams after a player swap in the
off season to their respective clubs. Wade Graham will be a massive loss to the Sharks I
thought the sharks were the better side against the Roostersand will be too strong for
the Panthers TIP - Sharks
Saturday night, Semi Final- South Sydney Rabbitohs Vs St George Dragons
Players to watch Sydney, Reynolds, Sam Burgess -St George, Mann, Hunt
The Rabbitohs were great last week but got caught on the Edges a few times, expect
them to correct that this week. Kurt Mann has big shoes to fill coming in for the
injured Widdop, De Belin carrying a major injury. Without Widdop I expect the
Dragons to lose a bit of shape. Plus the Rabbitohs will dominate up front with their
go forward. TIP- Rabbitohs
BEST BET -Greg Inglis anytime try into Robert Jennings anytime try into
Rabbitohs Win into Rabbitohs 13+

SCOTTISH LOVE STORY
An elderly man lay dying in his bed. While suffering the
agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the
aroma of his favourite scones wafting up the stairs.
He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself
from the bed. Leaning on the wall, he slowly made his
way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort,
gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled down-
stairs. With laboured breath, he leaned against the door-
frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's
agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven,
for there, spread out upon the kitchen table were literally
hundreds of his favourite scones. Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of love
from his devoted Scottish wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a
happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table,
landing on his knees in rumpled posture. His aged and withered hand trembled
towards a scone at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked by his
wife with a wooden spoon ............ F**k off,' she said, 'they're for the funeral.'
A woman goes to her Gynaecologist . What seems to be the problem? asks the
doctor .Something is terribly wrong,I keep finding postage stamps from Costa Rica
in my vagina. The doctor had a look and chuckled quite loudly then said they aren't
postage stamps my dear they are the stickers off the bananas !!
Tiger Tim reported the Crows and Port tied in kite flying at Semaphore last Sunday!!
