1. SCOPE
This Technical Installation Manual sets the scope and details for installing the
THECApanel system for Residential and Light Commercial buildings in New
Zealand.

The scope of application of all designs and construction shall be within the limits
set out in NZS3604:2011 1.1.2 Paras (a) to (k), (m) and (n); and shall be within the
requirements and the tables set out in this manual.

Always check you have the latest version of this manual. Updates or version number
is available at www.theca.co.nz or email support@theca.co.nz.

This technical manual should be used in conjunction with the THECApanel Details
that are available as external documents from www.theca.co.nz in .pdf format.

Any changes in design or construction from the information contained herein must
be confirmed in writing by a Theca representative and will be outside the scope of
this technical manual.

THECApanel meets the following Building Code Clauses:

Clause B1 - STRUCTURE
THECApanel is compliant with all clauses of B1 – Structure except 1.3.5, 1.3.6 and
1.3.7..

Clause B2 - DURABILTY
THECApanel is compliant with all clauses of B2 - Durability.

Clause E2 - EXTERNAL MOISTURE


THECApanel is compliant with all clauses of E2 – External Moisture. THECApanel
will accept all NZBC compliant cladding solutions.

Clause F2 - HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS


THECApanel is compliant with all clauses of F2 – Hazardous Building Materials

Clause H1 - ENERGY EFFICIENCY


THECApanel is compliant with all clauses of H1 – Energy Efficiency.

2. THECApanel INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW
Congratulations on choosing a building methodology that will result in a higher
quality and healthier building.

2.1. Background
Timber framed buildings have formed the backbone of the New Zealand residential
construction vernacular since we started building homes in New Zealand.

Timber is an excellent material to use to build homes, however the way it has been
implemented in New Zealand has not changed since its inception.

This has always, and continues to, result in buildings that are draughty, prone to
mould and condensation, difficult to heat and with poor internal air quality.

The majority of the developed world has realised that traditional on-site building
methods have inherent problems that are very difficult and expensive to address.
Across the world, pre-fabrication is taking over the building industry as the typical
solution for providing timber framed buildings.

THECA Prefabrication is now bringing this methodology to New Zealand.


THECApanel offers an efficient, effective and cost-effective panelised pre-
fabrication solution aimed specifically at providing higher quality buildings that are
faster to build and are cost-effective for both the builder and homeowner.

2.2. System overview


THECApanel is a factory-built, lightweight timber framed system. It is largely in
accordance with NZS 3604:2011 except for some specifically engineered
connections.

We designed the system for easy use by builders in New Zealand. It uses largely
standard timber framing and connections; no specialist equipment, knowledge or
techniques are required to use and install the THECApanel system.

THECApanel does not have a ‘palette’ of standard panels to choose from. Each
building is custom-built giving us infinite flexibility in terms of what can be
delivered.

2.3. THECApanel Benefits
The benefits of THECApanel include:

Speed
THECApanel greatly increases the speed of your build, giving you certainty around
completion time and reducing weather delays.

THECApanel uses robust quality assurance systems, combined with superior
products to reduce the number of on-site inspections.

Accuracy
Factory based manufacturing and QA systems mean THECApanel is extremely
accurate, further reducing build times and providing a true, plumb building
structure for finishing trades.

THECApanel uses structure protection membranes that ensure a perpetually dry
structure, free from interstitial mould and condensation.

Energy-Efficiency
THECApanel’s framing system increases the amount of insulation and ensures the
performance of the insulation, resulting in a warmer, drier building with lower
running costs.

Cost
THECApanel allows cost certainty for a large proportion of your build cost. Your
on-site overheads are reduced due the speed of construction.

Ease of Use
THECApanel requires no specialised skills, training or equipment.

2.4. Elements and components


THECApanel comprises all the elements required for a complete building. Each
panel con be built up to a maximum size of 12m x 3.1m.
1. Suspended Timber Floors
2. External Walls
3. Internal Walls
4. Mid floors;
5. Ceilings;
6. Roofs.

Each element is prefabricated to an advanced level that includes to the extent
shown on the drawings:
1. Structural framing;
2. Plywood bracing;
3. Weathertightness membranes;
4. External cavity battens;
5. Drained cavity closures
6. Primary insulation;
7. Airtightness and structure protection membranes;
8. Internal service cavity battens.

and may include:


1. Windows and flashings;
2. External claddings;

2.5. Building Code compliance


THECApanel elements will be fully compliant with the Building Consent documents
and Architect or Designer’s and Engineer’s drawings and specifications.

THECA Prefabrication will issue documentation to ensure compliance with the


consented drawings and all requirements of the NZ Building Code.

2.6. Substitutions
No substitutions are permitted.

2.7. Onsite documents


Ensure that the following documents are onsite before commencing installation:
1. Authorised Building Consent documents;
2. Bracing plan;
3. Prefabricated element layout plan(s);
4. This Installation Guide;
5. All referenced documents.

2.8. Contractors
Ensure that a suitably qualified and experienced Licensed Building Practitioner
undertakes any and all Restricted Building Work.

2.9. Document precedence
Ensure that you have the latest version of this Installation Guide. See
www.theca.co.nz for the latest version.

Use standard industry practices and common sense when installing panelised
elements. IF IN DO UBT, ASK!

In all instances the details that are included in the Building Consent documents
take precedence.

3. BCA INSPECTIONS AND CODE COMPLIANCE
THECApanel removes the need for some onsite inspections by the Building
Consent Authority.

The system will be delivered with the documentation required for application for a
Code Compliance Certificate.

BCA Inspections
The following BCA inspections will be covered by THECA Prefabrication’s Quality
Assurance, PS/3 and PS/4 documentation:

1. Structural framing;
2. Installation of bracing elements to external walls;
3. Installation of Handibrac bracing hold-downs;
4. Installation of insulation;
5. Bottom plate to concrete floor fixings;
6. Structural connections between THECApanel elements;
7. Sill tapes;
8. Window flashings;
9. Air seals to window frames.

4. HEALTH AND SAFETY

4.1. Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the installation contractor to ensure the safety of all people
onsite during the delivery, unloading and installation of prefabricated elements.

Panelised elements are bulky and heavy. See the Storage and Handling section
below for safe handling techniques.

Notify network operators if working close to overhead wires or cables.

Use tag lines to control panel elements while lifting.

Suspend installation if wind conditions make the handling of panelised elements


difficult and / or dangerous.

Complete a Task Analysis before commencing installation and ensure that all staff
and subcontractors involved are aware of all safety requirements.

4.2. PPE
Wear appropriate personal protection equipment.

As a minimum we recommend the following PPE must be work by all persons on=-
site during installation.

Steel-Toed Safety Shoes Hard Hat

Eye Protection

Hearing Protection
High-Vis Clothing

5. STORAGE AND HANDLING

5.1. Storage
In the event that panelised elements are delivered to site before they can be
immediately installed the following precautions must be undertaken:
1. Store panelised elements clear of the ground on full-width blocks;
2. Cover the panelised elements with tarpaulins or similar to protect them from
inclement weather and UV exposure.

5.2. Handling
Lifting Points
Use the supplied lifting connectors and screws to provide lifting points for your
Hiab or crane.

The lifting points we supply are suitable ONLY for a Reid Swiftlift based lifting
system (see http://www.reids.co.nz/concrete-lifting-systems). Ensure your Hiab or
crane provider uses genuine Swiftlift equipment.

Lifting points can be positioned for either a shear or tension load while lifting.
Lifting points must be firmly fixed to full-length timber members.

Lifting point positions will be clearly marked on all prefabricated elements. Install a
lifting point at EVERY position indicated for safe lifting and handling.

Tag Lines
Use tag lines when lifting panels to safely control panels.

Hiab and Crane Operators


All operators of a Hiab must be qualified with Unit Standard 1754.

All crane operators must be appropriately qualified in accordance with the NZ


Crane Association training and certification requirements.

Safety
Never stand underneath a panel while it is being lifted.

Ensure that feet and hands are never placed underneath a panel such that a foot or
hand can be crushed in the event of lifting system failure, sudden or unexpected
movement of a panel.

Moving to Position
Move the panel to position and position precisely using a sledgehammer.

Only use the sledgehammer on the end of a full-length member (e.g. bottom plate
for walls).

6. DESIGN PARAMETERS

6.1. Scope
Standard Scope
The system is designed primarily for buildings that fall within the scope of
NZS3604:2011 and are in a wind zone up to and including High.

Out of Scope Buildings


Buildings beyond the scope of NZS3604:2011 can still use THECApanel but MAY
require specific engineering. Examples of buildings that may require specific
engineering are:
1. Buildings in Very High or Extra High wind zones;
2. Residential buildings of more than two timber-framed storeys;
3. Light commercial buildings;
4. Apartment and multi-residential buildings;
5. Column and beam commercial buildings where THECApanel is used as an
externally fixed external façade.

Some buildings may use THECApanel without requiring specific engineering:


1. Column and beam commercial buildings where THECApanel is used as an
infill panel for the exterior façade.

6.2. Wind Zones


THECApanel is suitable for buildings in any wind zone. The standard details and
PS/1 documentation are suitable for buildings within the scope of NZS3604:2011
for up to High wind zones.

Buildings in Very High or Extra High wind zones may require specific engineering,
however THECApanel is still a suitable construction method.

6.3. Snow Zones


THECApanel is suitable for any snow zone and altitude.

6.4. Earthquake Zones


THECApanel is suitable for any earthquake zone.

6.5. Building Complexity


THECApanel is ideally suited to buildings with simple forms, particularly simple
roof forms, however the system can be used on buildings of any level of
complexity.

6.6. Panel Size
The maximum panel size is determined by access to the building site and the
largest track that can access the site.

Difficult to access sites may require prior investigation to determine the maximum
panel size that can be delivered to site.

THECApanel does not use a standard ‘palette’ of panels to choose from. Each
project is custom-built.

6.7. B1 – Structure Design


Foundations
The Architect, Designer or Engineer must complete foundation design.

Bracing
The Architect, Designer or Engineer must complete bracing design.

External walls and roofs must not use internal linings as contributors to bracing.

External walls must only use externally fixed structural ply for bracing in the form of
CHH EPBS or EP1 bracing elements. Remember that the entire building is
sheathed in structural ply and any wall section that complies with the minimum
requirements of the EPBS or EP1 bracing requirements can be a bracing element.

Refer to the appended information for these bracing elements.

Lintels
Lintels must be designed in accordance with NZS3604:2011 Table 8.14. Lintels
outside the scope of this table require Specific Engineering Design.

6.8. E2 – External Moisture Design


The Architect or Designer must complete external moisture management design.
The THECApanel standard details offer recommended solutions for installation and
connection of weatherproof elements however it is the sole responsibility of the
Architect or Designer to ensure compliance with NZBC E2 – External Moisture.

6.9. Windows and Doors


We recommend the use of airtight timber or uPVC external windows and doors that
can be installed in the middle of the wall framing.

Improving the thermal performance and airtightness of your specified window and
door joinery, combined with the use of THECApanel, may significantly improve the
thermal performance and comfort of the completed building.

6.10. Detailing
Window and Door Openings
Window and doors must be modelled and detailed carefully to clearly show the
required dimensions for rough openings.

We recommend a gap of 10mm all round all windows and doors.

Documentation
THECA Prefabrication will provide THECApanel detailing and specifications to
make the documentation task easier.

We recommend ‘greying out’ the structural components that will be supplied by


THECApanel and adding any required features to the outside of the detail.

See below for an example.

Member Sizing
The Architect, Designer or Engineer is responsible for sizing and spacing all
structural members.

All timber must be specified using LVL8, LVL11, LVL13 or Lumberworx I-Beams.
DO NOT specify sawn timber.

6.11. Shop Drawings
It is essential that your digital model is accurate. We will manufacture panels to
exactly match your digital model. If there are errors in your model then there will
be errors in the completed panels.

We will require sign-off of the shop drawings before commencing fabrication.

Shop drawings will be created from your digital model. The output format
depends on the software being used.

Revit, ArchiCAD,
1. Disable all model layers except for:
a. Floors;
b. External Walls;
c. Internal Walls;
d. Ceilings;
e. Roofs.
2. Ensure all windows and doors (internal and external) are shown (preferably as
rough openings);
3. Export the model to an .IFC file.

AutoCAD
4. Disable all model layers except for:
a. Floors;
b. External Walls;
c. Internal Walls;
d. Ceilings;
e. Roofs.
5. Ensure all windows and doors (internal and external) are shown (preferably as
rough openings);
6. Export the model to an .DWG file.

VectorWorks
1. Disable all model layers except for:
a. Floors;
b. External Walls;
c. Internal Walls;
d. Ceilings;
e. Roofs.
2. Ensure all windows and doors (internal and external) are shown (preferably as
rough openings);
3. Export the model to a .SAT file.

7. INSTALLATION – GENERAL

7.1. Installation guide


This Installation Guide is intended as a reference only.

Use standard industry practices and common sense when installing panelised
elements. IF IN DO UBT, ASK!

7.2. Documentation
Panelised elements will be delivered to site with accompanying documentation to
facilitate installation and code compliance:
1. Element layout plan;
2. Quality Assurance report;
3. PS/1 documentation from our Structural Engineer;
4. PS/4 documentation from our Structural Engineer;
5. PS/3 documentation from our prefabrication team;
6. A Record of Work.

7.3. Planning
Careful and detailed planning will help to ensure speedy installation of
prefabricated elements.

Your planning should consider at least the following items:


1. Ensure you have sufficient staff to safely and efficiently move and install the
prefabricated elements;
2. Ensure you have a clear understanding of the installation sequence. Consider
whether you will install all the external walls and then the internal walls, or
whether you will use internal walls to brace and straighten external walls as
you go.
3. Ensure that all safety measures have been completed and that all staff are
aware of the safety plan.
4. Ensure that adequate props and braces are available.

7.4. Site preparation


Offload area
Ensure that an adequate offloading area is available for the panelised elements

Hiab / crane working platform


Ensure that the installation equipment (Hiab and / or crane) can access the site onto
a level working platform and that there is sufficient space for the Hiab or crane to
deploy outriggers.

Outrigger loads
Ensure that there are no subsurface services that may be damaged by Hiab or
crane outriggers

Overhead wires
Ensure that no overhead wires or cables will impede the installation of panelised
elements.

Ensure that any necessary notifications to and permissions from network operators
are complete.

Traffic control
Ensure that any necessary road closures and traffic control is in place.

Scaffolding and edge protection


Ensure that you have safe access to heights for installing elements at or above top
plate height.

Consider installing your scaffolding and edge protection before panel installation
occurs.

If scaffolding is installed prior to panelised element installation leave the side of the
building platform closest to the Hiab or crane free of scaffolding to allow panelised
elements to be lifted onto the building platform.

7.5. Fixings and fasteners


Metal fixings and fasteners beyond those shown in the Fastening Schedules must
be selected in accordance with the Architect or Designer’s specification.

If no specific fixings or fasteners have been specified then all fixings and fastenings
must be in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 2.4.4, 4.4, 7.6, 8.8.6 and 10.5.

Screws
Screws must be installed straight and in accordance with the drawings.

Screw heads must be driven flush.

Nails
All nails must be driven flush in accordance with the instructions of the
manufacturer of the product or system being nailed.

See the appended instruction sheets.

Both power driven and hand driven nails are acceptable.

Tapes
Adhesive tapes are used in the prefabrication system to ensure airtightness and
weathertightness.

All tapes must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Glues

Glues are, at times, used to ensure airtightness.

All glues must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Sealants
No mastic sealants may be used.

7.6. Fastening schedule


The schedule below is for use in all earthquake, wind and snow loading zones.

All fixings must comply with NZS3604:2011 2.4.4 and 4.4.3.

7.7. General installation sequence
The following is a quick guide to the installation sequence of the entire panelised
prefabrication system.

See below for a detailed description of each step.

1. Install suspended timber ground floors on subfloor framing.


2. Fix timber ground floors to subfloor framing.
3. Install sole plates on concrete floors; pack as necessary to ensure a level,
square and accurate platform.
4. Install external walls;
5. Install internal walls;
6. Install mid-floors or ceilings;
7. Straighten all walls;
8. Fix internal walls to external walls;
9. Install roofs;
10. Install external doors;
11. Install all external joinery glazing;
12. Complete weathertightness layer;
13. Install remaining external cavity battens;
14. Test insulation installation;
15. Remedy insulation installation if required
16. Complete airtightness layers;
17. Test for required airtightness performance level;
18. Install remaining internal service cavity battens.

8. INSTALLATION –CONCRETE FLOORS
An accurate, square and level concrete slab will make the installation of panelised
elements faster and more accurate.

See Tolerances below for required accuracy.

8.1. Concrete slabs


Prior to installing formwork confirm the slab dimensions with THECA Prefabrication.

Install concrete slabs in accordance with the Building Consent documents.

8.2. Slab overhangs


Ensure a 10mm overhang to slab edges that will receive a panelised wall element.

8.3. Sole plates


Install sole plates on DPC as detailed. Pack sole plates as required achieving a
completely level top surface of the sole plates. Use Ramset H-Packers as required;
spread a flexible grout between each H-Packer to provide a continuous bearing
surface.

Recess screw heads and washers with a 24mm dia spade bit to a maximum depth
of 8mm.

Ensure that sole plates are straight, level, square and dimensionally accurate.

Install additional fixings at bracing element hold-downs as detailed.

Accurate sole plates will ensure a fast and accurate installation process.

8.4. Tolerances
Ensure that concrete slabs and sole plates are within the following tolerances.

9. INSTALLATION – SUSPENDED TIMBER FLOORS
An accurate, square and level subfloor structure will make the installation of
panelised elements faster and more accurate.

See Tolerances below for required accuracy.

9.1. Piles and bearers


Install foundation walls, piles and bearers in accordance with the Building Consent
documents.

9.2. Floor overhangs


Ensure a 10mm overhang to bearer or foundation wall edges that will receive a
panelised floor element.

9.3. Tolerances
Ensure that the subfloor structure is within the following tolerances.

10. INSTALLATION – WALLS

10.1. Mark out layout


Mark out internal wall positions to enable a faster installation.

Clearly mark bracing element hold-down positions

10.2. General installation


Lift panelised walls into place beginning at the furthest point from the Hiab or
crane.

Ensure ply overhangs are protected from damage.

Precisely locate panelised walls with a sledgehammer, striking only on the end of
full-length timbers.

Fasten walls to sole plates or suspended timber floors as detailed.

10.3. Bracing elements


Bracing element hold-down locations are marked on the internal side of external
walls with a red spray dot.

Install additional fixings at bracing element hold-downs as detailed.

10.4. Propping and straightening


Prop and straighten walls as work progresses to ensure accuracy and safety.

10.5. Inline wall panel connections


Ensure a 2mm gap is maintained between ply sheet edges.

Fasten panelised wall panels together as detailed.

10.6. External to internal wall connections


Lift panelised internal walls into place.

Ensure that panelised walls are straight and vertical.

Once timber mid-floors and / or ceilings are installed fix internal wall to external
wall as detailed.

Lift panelised roofs into place beginning at the furthest point from the Hiab or
crane. Install roof panels in pairs to enable ridge connections to be installed as
work progresses.

Place the bottom of the roof into position and lower the top down to the correct
position.

Take care not to damage INTELLO membranes on the external walls.

Precisely locate panelised roofs with a sledgehammer, striking only on the end of
full-length timbers.

Fasten panelised roofs to external walls as detailed.

Fasten roofs to each other as detailed.

13.2. Propping and straightening

14. INSTALLATION – EXTERNAL WINDOWS AND DOORS
External doors will not be installed and will be delivered either by the window
supplier or along with the panelised prefabricated elements.

14.1. Door installation


Install external doors in accordance with the Architect’s or Designer’s details and

If windows are not pre-installed then install windows in accordance with the
Architect’s or Designer’s details and specification.

14.3. Glazing
If windows are not glazed, install glazing in accordance with the window
manufacturer’s instructions and in accordance with NZS 4223.

15. INSTALLATION – WEATHERTIGHTNESS

15.1. General
Work from the bottom of the building up, ensuring that laps are always created
with the upper membrane lapping over the lower membrane.

15.2. Membrane joint taping


Repair any damage to weathertight membranes with TESCON EXTORA in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Tape the connections between wall panels; inline, internal and external corners with
TESCON EXTORA in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Tape the MENTO roof membrane to the EXTASANA wall membrane with TESCON
EXTORA in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Tape the connections between roof panels with TESCON EXTORA in accordance
with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Tape the panelised roof connections along the ridge with TESCON EXTORA in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

15.3. Cavity Battens


Once the external weathertightness system has been complete and verified by:
1. the building contractor, and;
2. the Architect or Designer, and;
3. the Building Consent Authority:

Install the remaining external cavity battens to walls and roofs in accordance with
the Building Consent documents.

16. INSTALLATION – AIRTIGHTNESS

16.1. General
THECApanel includes an airtightness and structure protection membrane,
INTELLO, on the inside of the structure.

The integrity of this membrane is of crucial importance to the performance and


long-term durability of the building.

Ensure that all staff, contractors and subcontractors are aware of the requirements
with dealing with the INTELLO membrane onsite.

16.2. Concrete floor connection


Sweep the concrete slab free of dust and debris from the area to be glued.

Glue the INTELLO to the concrete slab with ORCON in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.

16.3. Membrane joint taping


Undertake joint taping in a structured and systemised way to ensure that all joints
are addressed.

Tape all INTELLO joints using TESCON VANA in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.

16.4. Airtightness verification


Verification that the airtightness and structure protection system has been installed
to an acceptable standard is a crucial component of the integrity of the system.

Performance standard
Refer to the Building Consent documents or the Architect’s or Designer’s
specification for the required performance standard.

If no standard has been specified then an appropriate target is an n50 of ≤1.5 ach.

Blower door test


Undertake blower door testing in accordance with the Building Consent documents
or the Architect’s or Designer’s specification.

If no testing regime has been specified then undertake a Type B blower door test
in accordance with EN 13829:2001.

17. INSULATION INSTALLATION VERIFICATION
Verification that the installed insulation has not been compromised in any way
during transport and installation of prefabricated elements is crucial to the
performance and long-term durability of the building.

IR camera test
Undertake an infra-red camera inspection of the insulation installation using a FLIR
ONE™ or equivalent quality thermal imaging camera. See www.flir.com.hk/flirone/.

Design Information
Timber and Steel Framing
1. Studs must be provided at maximum 600 mm centres. Dwangs must be fitted flush between the studs at maximum 1200 mm
centres.

General
2. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay is intended for use as an alternative to conventional building papers which are fixed over
timber or steel framed walls in order to limit the entry of wind into building cavities, and to act as a secondary barrier to wind-
driven rain.
3. The material also provides a degree of temporary weather protection during early construction. However, the product will not
make the building weathertight and some wetting of the underlying structure is always possible before the building is closed
in. Hence, the building must be closed-in and made weatherproof before moisture sensitive materials such as wall or ceiling
linings and insulation materials are installed.
4. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay must not be exposed to the weather or ultra violet light for a total of more than 60 days
before being covered by the wall cladding.
5. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay is suitable for use under wall claddings as a wall underlay as called up in NZBC Acceptable
Solution E2/AS1 (AMENDMENT 6 – FEBRUARY 2014), Table 23 on timber framed buildings. Solitex Extasana Wall

7. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay is suitable for use in all Wind Zones of NZS 3604:2011 up to, and including, ‘Very High’
when used as a stand-alone flexible wall underlay, and all Wind Zones of NZS 3604:2011 up to, and including, ‘Extra High’
when used as an overlay for rigid wall underlays.

Durability
8. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay meets code compliance with NZBC Clause B2.3.1 (a), not less than 50 years for wall
underlays used where the cladding durability requirement or expected serviceable life is not less than 50 years, e.g. behind
masonry veneer, and code compliance with NZBC Clause B2.3.1 (b), 15 years for wall underlays used where the cladding
durability requirement is 15 years.

Serviceable Life
9. Provided it is not exposed to the weather or ultra-violet light for a total of more than 60 days, and provided the exterior
cladding is maintained in accordance with the cladding manufacturer’s instructions and the cladding remains weather
resistant, Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay is expected to have a serviceable life equal to that of the cladding.

13. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay can be added as a second layer over head flashings in accordance with the requirements of
NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 (AMENDMENT 6 – FEBRUARY 2014), Paragraph 9.1.10.3.
14. Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay, when installed in accordance with the Solitex Extasana Wall Underlay Installation Guide,
titled ‘Pro Clima Solitex Extasana Wall Protection Membrane, Version 2012-09 ID DIG-147’ and the CodeMark Certificate will
assist in the total cladding systems compliance with NZBC Clause E2.

SOLITEX EXTASANA is a unique non-porous watertight membrane. This enables the

SOLITEX EXTASANA has a non-glare blue colour providing a more pleasant working
environment. SOLITEX EXTASANA must be fixed with the printed (blue) side out and the

1 SOLITEX EXTASANA is applied to all exterior walls from below bottom plate to top plate. Fix securely to the frame
with fasteners e.g. galvanised “LITTLE GRIPPERS”, or 6mm – 8mm staples, or 20 mm large head galvanised clouts at 300 mm
centres horizontally and vertically. Additional fixings should be used around each opening to be cut out e.g. windows
and doors. In sea spray zones (ZONE D) all metal fixings must be stainless steel.
NOTE: Check with timber suppliers for the correct type of fastenings to be used on treated timber.

2 When using SOLITEX EXTASANA either 2740 mm or 1500 mm width horizontally or vertically, a minimum of 150 mm
lap is required at joins and all vertical overlaps must be made over studs which are to be taped with pro clima TESCON
EXTORA to increase weathertightness. Any forced tears to be repaired with TESCON EXTORA tape.
NOTE: Fastenings behind brick veneer cladding must have an equivalent service life to that of brick veneer (50 years).

To ensure a durable, windproof and weathertight seal using the pro clima TESCON EXTORA around the windows, doors or
other components, the surfaces must be stable, dry, smooth, free from dust, dirt, silicone and grease. Remove all unwanted
material from the surfaces with a vacuum cleaner or cloth if necessary. It is important to remove flaking and loose mate-
rials such as peeling paintwork, building papers and labels. Adhesion to frozen surfaces is not possible. In case of doubt,
adhesion tests should be carried out. The pro clima SOLITEX EXTASANA is designed to be used behind most typical cladding
systems, provided it is not exposed to the weather or ultra-violet light for a period greater than 60 days.
