The Anderreamer produces a high-quality concentric wellbore,
approximately 20% larger than the casing ID; regardless of
formation type, or downhole conditions.
The Anderreamer is reliable, robust and able to withstand even
the most demanding downhole environments. The cutting
structure is tailored to the specific application, performance
expectations and bit type. Mathematical, predictive modeling
is used to ensure the cutting structures on the bit and
Anderreamer are compatible.

Cutting Structure
The latest development in cutter block design is the Double
Spiral Layout with Diamond Impreg Inserts (DSI) and NOV -
Reed Hycalog premium PDC cutter technology.
Cutter Block Expansion and Retraction – The Anderreamer
uses a shallow taper cam with a “dove tail” interface to securely
expand and retract the cutter blocks. The shallow taper provides
for a very high mechanical advantage, which ensures full gauge,
concentric hole is delivered, regardless of weight on bit or
formation properties (no “hour-glass” hole).
Shoe Drilling – The Anderreamer is run in the hole fully locked
from cutter block expansion. The locking mechanism is not
affected by changes in pressure or weight on bit and will remain
locked until the desired time.
Mechanical Design – The Anderreamer is constructed of
heat-treated, high strength steel. The body is one piece, with
no welded or bolted components attached to it. All designs
undergo comprehensive Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
modeling to ensure any stress concentrations are addressed.
Simplicity – With very few seals and moving parts and no com-
plicated fluid flow paths, the Anderreamer consistently provides
outstanding performance, even in the most challenging applica-
tions.

On the DSI cutter blocks, the layout of the cutters has been op-
timized. The cutters on all three blocks are arranged in a double
spiral pattern ensuring equal load distribution, resultant force
balancing and excellent durability.

Anderreamer Advantages
Pilot Hole Stability – The Anderreamer maintains industry lead-
ing, integral blade 360° pilot-hole stabilization within 1/8” of bit
size; ensuring the cutting structure is centered and stabilized
within the borehole. Stabilization at the cutter blocks (rather
than 10’ below when a stabilizer is run below the underreamer)
provides superior support to the cutting structure and virtually
eliminates the opportunity for BHA tilt at the blocks.
