Course/Subject L3 Creative Media – Unit 12: Subject Specialism

Awarding Body: UAL

Course Aims:
To provide students with an introduction to a range of processes and skills used in creative media production and technology and to the
characteristics and methods of communication with the media sector.
To develop students’ abilities to critically analyse, and integrate, knowledge and understanding acquired in previous units and to investigate the
specific skills and attributes required for creative production and technology in visual-based media platforms.

On completion of this unit a learner should:


1. Understand processes and technical skills used in a creative media production
2. Understand the characteristics and methods of communication within a media context
3. Be able to analyse a visual-based problem in creative media production
4. Be able to use an integrated approach to visual-based creative media problem solving and production
5. Be able to evaluate solutions to a visual-based problem in creative media production.

Homework to be set weekly and returned to students within 10 working days.

specific and refer equally to he/she: scenario activities use a wide range of names and promote diversity; activities are varied and are aimed at
maximising the potential of learners. Worksheets are produced using dyslexic friendly fonts, (Comic Sans/Arial); sight/hearing impaired students are
appropriately positioned in order to maximise potential. Optional trips are aimed at providing equal opportunities for all and operate on a low cost
basis.

WK 2 Lesson Organising Interviews

Students should start organising their interviewees for their
documentary if they are required. It is important they are
organised early to allow them the best chance of getting
proper industry experts.

Students to preferably phone, rather than just email,


companies or individuals that could provide insight to their
documentaries.

Evidence of contact should be provided and uploaded to their


LO2 pages.
Students who are not using interviews in their production
should continue researching the development and
technologies.

Students to find and discuss examples of productions that are
significant to their chosen area.

Students to start working on their script and putting findings
together.

Focus should first be on the structure of how they would like


their documentary to develop over.

WK 3 Lesson Finalising Script

Students should be finalising scripts, identifying what practical
skills they are going to have to film for their documentary.

4 – 11
In this week students need to get out and recreate the
examples you have chosen to cover in your production.
Obviously some of them might not be possible, but a vast
majority of them will be. These visuals will help to make their
documentaries more interesting and they can tailor what is
being shown to what is being talking about.

WK 4 Lesson Filming and editing


08/10/18 1 – 11
Students to continue the filming and continuous editing of their
production.

Teachers to give general feedback and improvements as they


work. Look over b-roll to check it is all relevant and varied
enough – students need to avoid re-using footage in the same
production.
