Topic Name - To Study Roller Bearing

Introduction :

Roller Bearings are a type of rolling-element bearing that uses cylinders (rollers) to maintain
the separation between the moving parts of the bearing (as opposed to using balls as the rolling element).
The purpose of a roller bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial
loads.Cylindrical roller bearings have a greater radial load carrying capacity than ball bearing of same size,
because of greater contact area. In addition they have high rigidity.Cylindrical roller bearings, in which
either the inner or outer rings has two ribs and the other ring has one, are capable of taking some axial
load in one direction Double-row cylindrical roller bearings have high radial rigidity and are used
primarily for precision machine tools.

Visit Overview :

On 10th august`18 we were visited to “Dhoom Automobile Garage”. There were various kinds of bikes
are to be repaired and in that bikes different types of bearings are used for the different purposes. So we
chose cylindrical roller contact bearing and that bearing is used in front and rear hubs of the wheels in
bikes.The series no of that bearing is “NU1006”and specification of this bearing are as follow:

Life Of Bearing :

Life of this bearing is 4500 hrs and it this bearing will change after 5 to 6 years. The
general cause for failure of cylindrical roller contact bearing are as follow:

Inappropriate use of bearings

Faulty installation or improper processing
Improper lubricant, lubrication method or sealing device
Inappropriate speed and operating temperature
Contamination by foreign matter during installation
Abnormally heavy load
