Highlights of the study for oral presentation:

Chapter 1 - Brief background, Statement of the Problem/Purpose, Research Questions,

hypothesis , Scope and Limitations (Suggested duration - 5 minutes)

• Clearly explains the need for the study

• Researchable, clear, concise, properly stated research problem and hypothesis
• Practical or theoretical significance or value
• Scope and Limitations clear and properly defined

Chapter 2 - Selected relevant studies (2 minutes)

• Succinct overview of relevant research
• Evidence of scholarly skills and awareness of recent developments in the topic
• Relationship of the problem to previous research is clear

Conceptual and theoretical framework - appropriate; essential features relevant to

the problem is clearly-stated; coherently integrated

Chapter 3 - Research Design, Sample, Sampling Design, Data Gathering Procedures,

Data Gathering Tool (8 minutes)
• Appropriate to the problem, clearly stated / described
• Instrument - validity and reliability of instruments are properly established;
instrument provides appropriate data to answer the research questions.
• Intervention – standardized administration, pilot-tested

Chapter 4 - Results and Discussion - Statistical Analysis done, present findings relevant to
the research questions. (10 minutes)
• Results of data analysis clearly presented.
o Results provide answers to the research questions.
• Relevant information presented in sufficient detail
 • Statistical methods to analyze data are applied correctly; knows the rationale for
using the statistical analysis used.
• Discussion and interpretation of results tie findings, conceptual framework, review
of literature, or rationale, into a coherent whole
• Discussion and interpretation are substantiated by the evidence presented
• Generalizations are confined to the population from which the sample was drawn

Chapter 5. - Summary of findings, Conclusion, Recommendations (5 minutes)

• Findings are clearly summarized
• Conclusions are logical, properly inferred from results, clearly stated
• Recommendations - gives specific, clear practical suggestions for further research;
identifies aspects for improvement

Write-up:

1. Report is clearly written.

2. Report is logically organized.
3. Tone of report displays an unbiased, impartial scientific attitude.
4. Abstract is properly written.
a. Salient features of the study are summarized.
5. Reference list is complete and written in the prescribed style and format.

Tips:

1. Know the research study.

2. Do not read while you are presenting. Memorize the contents of your presentation.
3. Do not argue with the panel.
4. Take note of panel’s suggestions and verbally express that their suggestions are being
noted.
5. Speak clearly and slowly, and with confidence.
6. Take note of time.
7. Assign speaker who knows the research very well.
8. Anticipate questions of the panel. Examples:
• what measures were done to ensure validity of instruments, to standardized
administration of intervention
• how questionnaire was constructed - from your own readings, or copied from
previous researchers
• Pilot testing
