Greeting Tuesday: Approaches to Learning – initiative,
1. Bhavishya’s and Lerui’s letter link, no symbols, explained how both Bhavishya and Lerui would not be at school for the day engagement, problem solving, reflection
Time 2. Photograph of a student shouting, photograph of our classroom, of our bathroom, and of our hallway, explained how we’ve been sad to see people
shouting inside the school, discussed how we can talk quietly when inside and shout when outside Social/Emotional – sense of competence,
3. Work in Progress sign, Art Area card, piece of paper, explained how we can write our name on our artwork to know it is ours, discussed how if emotions, empathy, community, building

Thursday: Mathematics – number words and symbols


1. Rest time rules written, drawing of Rest Time schedule sign, students came up with rules for rest time, they stated not to talk, not to play with toys,

apart, explained how we’ve seen people sitting/standing very close to one another and touching one another, explained how people like to have their Science/Technology – observing, drawing

Friday:
1. Getting angry written, photographs of students being angry, discussed how it is okay to feel angry, but we can never hurt others when we are
(kick/hit), stated how we have seen students hurting one another and it makes us sad, explained how we can cope with anger by taking deep breaths,
going to an area by ourselves to calm down, wrapping paper, squeezing a ball, etc. until we are ready to talk

sometimes when we are in a pretend play scenario it is getting carried away and others are getting hurt, explained how we can keep our hands/feet
to ourselves

privacy by keeping our clothes down and covering our bodies

Small  Students were told that they would be learning and exploring each of the 6 areas within the classroom. Each student had a bucket with 6 area cards. Approaches to Learning – initiative,
As each area card was pulled out students stated what they saw and guessed the name of the area. Then teachers told the students what the name of engagement, use of resources, reflection

that area was and students repeated the name of each. After looking at the cards, each student was given a bucket with three items inside. Students
Time discussed what the items were and guessed which area the items were from. Students then proceeded to that area and were introduced to all the Social/Emotional – community, building
items contained in that area. Students explored the materials/items. relationships, cooperative play

Tuesday: Physical/Health – fine-motor skills, body

Mrs. Chowdhury’s Group – scissors, paintbrush, glue (Art Area)
Mrs. Akther’s Group – water, pasta, rice (Sand and Water Table) Language/Literacy/Communication –
comprehension, speaking, vocabulary
Wednesday:
Ms. Sheffield’s Group – scissors, paint brush, glue (Art Area) Mathematics – number words and symbols,
Mrs. Chowdhury’s Group – water, pasta, rice (Sand and Water Table) counting, measuring, unit
Mrs. Akther’s Group – bear counter, unifix cube, animal (Toy Area)
Creative Arts – N/A
Thursday:
Ms. Sheffield’s Group – water, pasta, rice (Sand and Water Table) Science/Technology – observing, classifying,
Mrs. Chowdhury’s Group – bear counter, unifix cubes, animal (Toy Area) drawing conclusions, communicating ideas
Mrs. Akther’s Group – scissors, paintbrush, glue (Art Area)
Social Studies – decision making, geography
 Students were told that they were going to be chefs. They followed a recipe and made play-doh. They were introduced to the ingredients. Students
followed directions as they used measuring cups and measuring spoons to pour ingredients into a bowl. After the ingredients were mixed together
students were told that it would be placed in the microwave to be cooked. Students were told that after it was cooled they could play with it during
work time.

 Students introduced to the Song Book, showed picture, students guessed The Itsy, Bitsy Spider, tapped beat of song on knees as sang it, students
Time changed lyrics to song, lyrics are below: Social/Emotional – community, building
The itsy, bitsy spider crawled under the door relationships, cooperative play
It crawled on mommy and bit her on the knee
Then that spider spun a big web Physical/Health – gross-motor skills, body
He spun up mommy and she fell into bed awareness, health behavior

Wednesday: Language/Literacy/Communication –
 Easy to Join Activity – sang Come on Over and Sit Right Down song comprehension, speaking, vocabulary,
 Students shown the Song Book, explained would be singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider again, tapped beat of song on knees as sang it, students changed phonological awareness
lyrics to song, lyrics are below:
The itsy, bitsy spider crawled under the bridge Mathematics – number words and symbols,
It saw a baby and decided to watch it counting
They played together on the swing
Then he put the baby in its crib Creative Arts – music, movement

Thursday: Science/Technology – observing, classifying,


 Easy to Join Activity – sang Come on Over and Sit Right Down song drawing conclusions, communicating ideas
 Three area cards laid out (art, toy, sand and water table), items from each area mixed up in a box, each student was given one item from the box,
students observed their item, students placed their item on top of an area card showing where it belongs in our classroom, process continued until all Social Studies – decision making, geography
items were sorted/classified into the correct groups
Friday:
 Easy to Join Activity – sang Come on Over and Sit Right Down song
 Students practiced swaying, jumping, walking, and galloping., students took turns rolling a die with a number on it, choosing a picture, and doing
that movement while counting

 Students spent time looking at books. They did this at greeting time, snack time, work time, rest time, outside time, afternoon snack time, and engagement, problem solving, use of resources

 While outside, students explored and observed the world. Students played on the swings, on the jungle gyms, on the slides, on the merry-go-round, Physical/Health – gross-motor skills, fine-
and in the sand box. Some students played chase. Others played catch and played hockey. Students drew with chalk, as well. motor skills, body awareness, personal care,
healthy behavior
Work Time:
 Students are continuing to learn about each area within the classroom, to learn what materials/items can be found within each area and to learn how Language/Literacy/Communication –
to communicate what they are doing. comprehension, speaking, vocabulary
 Students are continuing to learn about their teachers and one another and to engage in conversations/activities with them.
 Students are beginning to learn how to problem solve and are continuing to learn about the rules of the classroom. Mathematics – N/A
 Students are learning to become independent and are learning healthy practices.
