An exterior shot. New York City, late at night. A rooftop. Four
figures stand around a table, socializing.
PANEL 2
There's a party going around at the table. A few balloons, some
small decorations. LUKE CAGE is holding DANIELLE CAGE. He's
smiling, laughing. Sitting beside him, taking a swig of a beer
is JESSICA JONES. She's rolling her eyes, mocking Luke.
CAPTION
Luke Cage, f.k.a. Power Man. Father.
Hero for Hire.
CAPTION
Jessica Jones, f.k.a. Jewel. Mother.
Private Investigator.
LUKE
And then he said...all that for two
hundred bucks? YOU ARE CRAZY!
JESSICA
"YOU ARE CRAZY!"
PANEL 3
COLLEEN WING sits at the end of the table. She's got a few
scrapes on her face. A katana is propped up against the table.
She's laughing.
CAPTION
Colleen Wing. Master samurai. Detective.
LUKE
(off panel)
Ah c'mon, you love that story.
JESSICA

I loved it the first 100 times.
PANEL 4
A final, big reveal. DANNY RAND, The Immortal IRON FIST sits
alone. He's holding a bottle of water. His mask is off. He's
watching his friends with a smile on his face. Danny is
returning to K'un-lun for a jaunt, and this is his going away
party.
CAPTION
Danny Rand, a.k.a. The Immortal Iron
Fist. Soon returning to his home in
K'un-lun for a sabbatical.
DANNY
Ah, I always loved that story, Luke.

PANEL 1
Luke attends to Danielle, who is crying. Jessica points at Danny
with the tip of her beer bottle.
JESSICA
Don't you DARE encourage him.
PANEL 2
Danny holds up his hands.
DANNY
What? Not everyone gets a cool Dr. Doom
story.
PANEL 3
Jessica slumps back in her chair and resumes drinking her beer.
Luke rises.
JESSICA
Whatever.
JESSICA
She smells like--
LUKE
Not 'round the baby.
JESSICA
--like she needs changing.
PANEL 4
Danny sits for a moment in silence with Jessica and Colleen.
Luke exits through the door back downstairs.
LUKE
My turn anyways.

Ya'll don't do anything I wouldn't do
twice.

PANEL 1
The same panel as the previous. Luke is gone. An almost awkward
silence.
PANEL 2
Jessica looks Danny right in the eye.
JESSICA
Ugh. Fine! I'll miss you while you're in
K'un-lun, alright?
JESSICA
I'll miss you, Danny. There. I said it.
PANEL 3
Danny looks shocked. Colleen as well.
JESSICA
Don't bother telling Luke. He won't
believe you.
PANEL 4
Danny fidgets with the cap of his water. He still has an awkward
time receiving compliments, especially from Jessica Jones.
DANNY
I don't know, we go back a ways.

PANEL 1
Danny reminisces, remembering the early days of his partnership
with Luke Cage.
DANNY
We were Power Man and Iron Fist, Jess.
Heroes for Hire! That's a bond that's
eternal.
PANEL 2
Colleen hands Jessica a fresh beer. Jessica looks exasperated.
Danny begins wildly gesticulating.
DANNY
We fought in all the big fights! We
saved the world! The universe!
DANNY
We were Avengers, Jess!
PANEL 3
Jessica takes a long sip of her beer. Danny is now standing on
the ledge of the roof, mock punching.
COLLEEN
Don't forget you came back from the
dead.
DANNY
Yeah! I came back from the dead!
PANEL 4
Danny stands proud on the ledge, his hands on his hips. Luke is
returning to the roof.
DANNY
The Immortal Iron Fist and Power Man!

JESSICA

PANEL 1
Luke returns and hands Danielle off to Jessica.
LUKE
What are you guys on about?
COLLEEN
Danny's reminiscing about the good ol'
days. Still.
DANNY
I just miss them, is all. All of us.
Together.
PANEL 2
Danny relaxes. There's a wide grin on his face.
DANNY
Luke, this was such a great idea man.
Getting everyone together.
LUKE
Hey, don't thank me. It was Colleen's
idea.
PANEL 3
Colleen's smile vanishes. She's visibly confused.
COLLEEN
Wha--? Luke, I came because you--

PANEL 1
A bullet tears through Danny's back and explodes out his chest,
sending him flying forward.
SFX
KA-BLAM!!

PANEL 1
Danny falls to the table, splintering it and landing on the
ground. Blood pools around him. Jessica drops to her knees,
burying Danielle's face in her chest. Luke is furious. Colleen
has drawn her blade in a flash.
LUKE
DANNY!!!
COLLEEN
Across the park!! I think I caught a
glint off something!!
PANEL 2
Jessica is panicked, terrified. Danny is clearly very nearly
dead.
JESSICA
Fuck!! What do we do?
COLLEEN
We've got to get him to...Luke can
you...
PANEL 3
Luke is gone, leaping off the roof.
COLLEEN
LUKE!!!
LUKE
HRAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!
PANEL 4
Jessica shoves Danielle into Colleen's arms. Colleen clumsily
turns her sword away from the baby.

JESSICA
Fucking Luke Cage, I'm gonna--here. Take
care of her.
PANEL 5
Jessica gingerly picks up Danny, pulling him over her shoulders.
JESSICA
I'll do this my god damn self, "Power
Man".

PANEL 1
Jessica leaps from the room towards the ground.
JESSICA
Danny, if you don't die I won't complain
about you bleeding on my favorite
fucking jacket.
PANEL 2
Jessica hits the ground, slamming into pavement. She's obviously
terrified, letting it show now that she's away from everyone.
JESSICA
So don't die. Okay?
DANNY
..uhrr...
PANEL 3
Jessica leaps into the air again, far off into the distance.
Citizens have phones out taking pictures.
JESSICA
That a yes?

PANEL 1
Luke Cage barrels through the wall of a building. He's furious.
Unstoppable.
LUKE
Show yourself!!
PANEL 2
Luke begins throwing furniture out of the way. The room is dimly
lit.
LUKE
I ain't no sucker, I know where you
could get the best shot.
LUKE
I know you're--
PANEL 3
A cloud of dust hit Luke, blinding him.
LUKE
Gah!!
PANEL 4
A boot strikes Luke in the throat, sending him reeling.
LUKE
Haugh!!
PANEL 5
The shooter, still cloaked in shadow, swings a pipe into Luke's
chest, catching him off guard. Luke is reeling backwards.
LUKE
AH!

PANEL 1
The figure shoulder tackles Luke, sending him falling out of a
window.
SFX
KRASH!
PANEL 2
Luke tumbles out of the window, reaching out at the building
side as he falls. A crowd is watching from below.
LUKE
Grrrrr--!
PANEL 3
Close up on his hand, as Luke's fingers dig deep into the side
of the wall.
NO DIALOGUE
PANEL 4
Luke, hanging by his one arm, having slid down the building side
a good six feet. The crowd stares up.
LUKE
(Exploding)
Graaaaaaah!!

PANEL 1
Luke crawls back in through the window, struggling to pull
himself up.
LUKE
I hate falling! You are gonna pay for--
PANEL 2
In the far side of the room, Luke spies a chair illuminated by
moonlight. A single spent casing is propped up on the windowsill
for him to find.
LUKE
--that. For..for shooting...
PANEL 3
Luke holds the spent casing in his hands. He's hidden in shadow.
LUKE
(softly)
...for shooting...
PANEL 4
Luke's sad, heavy face is highlighted by the moonlit night.
LUKE
...Danny!
PANEL 5
Luke bursts out of the side of the building, back towards where
the party was.
LUKE
(exploding)
DANNNNNNYYYYY!!!!

PANEL 1
Colleen stands on the rooftop, holding the oblivious Danielle
Cage. She's cooing. Colleen looks pissed.
NO DIALOGUE
PANEL 2
Luke lands with a resounding thud, shattering the ground!
Danielle cheers.
LUKE
Danny!?
COLLEEN
Jessica ran...jumped him to the
hospital.
COLLEEN
I'm babysitting? I think.
PANEL 3
Luke grabs Danielle, pulling him close and cradling her against
his chest.
LUKE
C'mon, grab on.
COLLEEN
What?
LUKE
Danny needs us.
PANEL 4
Colleen apprehensively wraps her arms around Luke's neck.
COLLEEN

Uh, you have a baby?
LUKE
Don't worry Colleen. She's the daughter
of Power Man and Jessica Jones.

PANEL 1
Luke leaps across the night sky, Colleen dangling off his back
and Danielle cooing against his chest. The hospital is visible
in the distance, impossibly far away.
LUKE
You think we give her car rides to help
her sleep?

PANEL 1
Close on Danny's hand. He's on a hospital bed.
SFX
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
PANEL 2
Danny's chest. His wound is just out of the field of view.
Doctors are leaned in over him.
SFX
DOCTOR
(off-panel)
Suction.
PANEL 3
Danny's face. Eyes are closed. Tubes obscure it.
SFX
DOCTOR
(off-panel)
Damn, let's...okay.

PANEL 1
A waiting room. Jessica Jones, her jacket smeared with blood,
sits. She's hunched over, elbows propped on her knees, wringing
her hands. Luke is bursting through the door, still holding
Danielle.
LUKE
Jess?! Jess!!
PANEL 2
Jessica looks up at Luke. She's hiding her worry. She holds her
hands up, and we see for the first time they are stained
crimson.
JESSICA
Luke, he's in surgery. They...there's...
PANEL 3
Jessica trails off, staring at her hands. Luke tries to console
her.
JESSICA
(softly)
...there was so much blood...
LUKE
Hey...hey it'll be okay. Don't worry.
PANEL 4
Danielle swats playfully at Jessica's face. Colleen comes
through the door, on a cell phone.
LUKE
He beat death at least once already.
LUKE
He'll do it again.

PANEL 1
Luke is holding Jessica. Danielle coos. Colleen is ending a call
on her phone.
COLLEEN
Misty isn't answering.
COLLEEN
How is he?
PANEL 2
Jessica balls up her fists, trying to summon up the courage to
put on her brave face.
JESSICA
He's in surgery.
JESSICA
They said it's not good.
PANEL 3
Colleen keeps her brave face on.
COLLEEN
He'll be fine. He always is.
LUKE
See? Even Colleen knows.

PANEL 1
Doctors working on Danny. Their smocks are stained with blood.
He's not moving. The heart rate monitor seems weak.
LUKE
(Caption)
You can't kill The Immortal Iron Fist.
PANEL 2
Jessica, Danielle, Luke and Colleen in the waiting room. Luke is
nervously pacing. Colleen leaned against a wall, fiddling with
her phone. Jessica is seated, holding Danielle. It's still night
outside.
NO DIALOGUE
PANEL 3
Doctors continue working on Danny. The blood is darker, more
prominent. The heart rate monitor seems stronger.
NO DIALOGUE
PANEL 4
The waiting room again. Colleen hasn't moved. Luke is seated,
playing with Danielle. Jessica is leaned against a window,
clearly drained and exhausted. Morning sunlight is starting to
stream in as the sun rises.
NO DIALOGUE
PANEL 5
The doctors have stopped working on Danny. The heart rate is
steady on the monitor, but the doctors look confused.
NO DIALOGUE

The waiting room. Colleen hasn't moved. Luke and Jessica are
seated by each other. Jessica is cradling a sleeping Danielle.
Luke has his arm around Jessica, pulling them both close. A
doctor is coming through the swinging double doors.
DOCTOR
Mrs. Jones?

PANEL 1
The three look up at the doctor. He has a solemn look on his
face.
DOCTOR
You're the one who brought in Mr...uh,
Fist?
LUKE
Yeah, that was us. How is he?
PANEL 2
The doctor is fiddling with a chart as the trio stares on,
eagerly.
DOCTOR
It's...well, it's not bad, but it's not
good, either.
DOCTOR
He's stable, but he isn't healing. We
stop the bleeding and it starts back up.
PANEL 3
Similar to previous panel. Luke looks crestfallen. Jessica is on
the verge of breaking down, but trying to hide it.
DOCTOR
We aren't sure what happens next. Is
there a chance he was poisoned?
LUKE
No. He can't be poisoned.

PANEL 1
The doctor looks confused, flipping faster through the folder
DOCTOR
Can't be poisoned...?
LUKE
You won't find it in there.
LUKE
Just...just gimme a minute, man.
PANEL 2
Jessica pulls in close to Luke. The doctor has stepped away,
still thumbing through the notebook.
JESSICA
You're sure...?
LUKE
Shou-Lou's spirit burns out any poison
in his blood.
JESSICA
Okay. Fine. Call someone. Steve. Thor.
JESSICA
(exploding)
FUCKING. SOMEBODY.
PANEL 3
Luke puts his hands on Jessica's arms, trying to console her.
LUKE
Jess, baby.
COLLEEN
We can't help him here. We have to take

PANEL 1
Luke and Jessica look confused.
LUKE
He should rest, yeah. But his place
might not be the safest.
COLLEEN

Close up on Colleen's face.
COLLEEN
Home.
PANEL 3
An icy tundra. Four figures are obscured by the snow: Luke,
Jessica, Colleen and a sled which they have strapped Danny's
body to.
CAPTION
TIBET. SOME TIME LATER.

PANEL 1
The snow is harsh and blinding. Colleen has a map out. Luke has
a thick rope held over his shoulder running down to the sled
that Danny is tied to. Jessica it futzing around with a phone.
JESSICA
No signal...
LUKE
She's fine. Your mom can take care of
her.
LUKE
She took care of you, didn't she?
JESSICA
That's what I'm afraid of.
PANEL 2
Colleen looks up from the map.
COLLEEN
I think this is it.
LUKE
What? All this nothing?
PANEL 3
The trio stands at the base of a mountain. Snow obscures
everything in the distance.
LUKE
I hate this place.
LUKE
Been here half a dozen times, never can
find it.

PANEL 4
Luke turns to face the other two as the wind whips up behind
him. A shadowy figure is barely visible amid the snow.
LUKE
We sure this is the place?
LUKE
I tried to memorize some landmarks
before, but the whole thing is covered
in snow now.

PANEL 1
The snow slowly subsides. The figure becomes more apparent.
Behind it are two more figures, standing at attention.
COLLEEN
Luke...
LUKE
Colleen, I'm not doubting you, but
everything looks the same out here.
LUKE
Sweet Christmas, what have we gotten
ourselves in to?
JESSICA
LUKE!!
PANEL 2
The snow has largely subsided. Two men stand guard at the
entrance to K'un-lun. Behind Luke stands LEI KUNG, THE
THUNDERER! His arms are crossed as he surveys the party before
him. Luke is startled.
LEI KUNG
I see you three have returned to our
great city of K'un-lun.
LUKE
AH!
LEI KUNG
I was not expecting you three. I was
expecting the arrival of the...
PANEL 3
Lei Kung's eyes go wide as they fall upon the sled, the broken
body of Danny Rand strapped to it. Danny is barely breathing,

not moving, and looks to be on death's door.
LEI KUNG
...My god...
LEI KUNG
GUARDS! QUICKLY!
PANEL 4
The two men bolt forward and collect the sled, carrying Danny
into K'un-lun. Lei Kung is clearly startled.
LEI KUNG
Come. They will attend to his wounds,
tell me everything.

PANEL 1
The city of K'un-lun is busy, bustling with life. Brightly lit,
eternally hopeful. Its people are prosperous in ways we could
not imagine. Luke, Jessica and Colleen sit with Lei Kung in a
small, enclosed room.
LEI KUNG
We will hear from the physician shortly.
LEI KUNG
What weapon could fell our city's
Immortal Weapon?
PANEL 2
Luke produces the bullet casing from his jacket pocket.
LUKE
We don't know. Some guy took a shot from
a few buildings over while Danny's guard
was down.
LUKE
This is all that we could find.
PANEL 3
Lei Kung inspects the bullet.
LEI KUNG
Would be no simple bullet that could
fell an immortal weapon.
LEI KUNG
Wait here. I shall check on Daniel.
PANEL 4
The three sit alone. Lei Kung slips through a door in the back.

He thinks we did it.
LUKE
What? No.

PANEL 1
Jessica pleads with Luke. Colleen is staring out the window to a
courtyard.
JESSICA
Oh come on, baby! You would think we had
done it if you were in his shoes!
LUKE
He thinks we shot him and drug his body
out here?
PANEL 2
Colleen rises to her feet. Outside the window, people of K'un-
lun are marching towards the courtyard.
COLLEEN
Uh, guys?
LUKE
I know it's your first time here Jess,
but K'un-lun ain't like that.
LUKE
Lei Kung can be trusted.
JESSICA
I don't trust anyone wearing a bondage
mask calling himself The Thunderer.
PANEL 3
The doors fly open as guards storm in.
COLLEEN
GUYS!
LUKE
Sweet Christmas!

(exploding)
I fucking TOLD you!
JESSICA
Try and arrest us, you mother fuckers!
PANEL 4
The guard looks confused.
GUARD
What? No, we're..we're here to escort
you to the courtyard.
JESSICA
What?
GUARD
Lei Kung has requested your presence. He
sends his apologies.

PANEL 1
The trio begin to head towards the door, following the guards.
LUKE
Apologies? Apologies for what?
GUARD
This is an unprecedented occasion.
GUARD
Things are moving very quickly.
PANEL 2
The courtyard. Lei Kung stands front and center. He looks very
solemn.
COLLEEN
(whispering)
Luke, what the hell is going on?
LUKE
(whispering)
No clue. Never saw 'em like this.
PANEL 3
Lei Kung raises a hand. The crowd silences immediately.
LEI KUNG
Forgive me for this sudden intrusion in
your lives, my fellow men and women.
LEI KUNG
But a great tragedy has befallen K'un-
lun this day.
PANEL 4
Jessica, Collen and Luke look shocked as they watch on.

LEI KUNG
But against all odds, Daniel Rand, The
Iron Fist, has fallen to an opponent.
LEI KUNG
The Iron Fist can no longer fulfill his
duties.

PANEL 1
Lei Kung continues speaking. He has balled his hand into a fist.
LEI KUNG
I swear to you all, we will find this
assailant. We will put every resource
into finding the creature who would fell
an Immortal Weapon.
PANEL 2
Luke is furious, shaking.
LUKE
(whispering)
That's it, then. They're just giving up
on him.
JESSICA
(whispering)
What?!
PANEL 3
Lei Kung spreads both his arms out and speaks loudly.
LEI KUNG
But the traditions of K'un-lun continue!
And we will not falter!
LEI KUNG
And as such, a tournament will begin

Splash page. Lei Kung stands boldly in the center of the
courtyard, arms stretched out. The crowd is cheering. Luke,
Jessica and Colleen are furious.
