Vandalism: On Sept. 7, at the
5000 block of Alexis, unknown
person(s) tipped over the dryer in
the building and attempted to gain
access to the coin compartment.
Petty theft: On Sept.8, at the
7000 block of Sylvania, unknown
suspect(s) removed a calculator
from the gym.
Violation of protection order:
On Sept. 8, at the 6000 block of
Convent, the suspect violated an
order of protection.
Burglary: On Sept. 8, at the
4000 block of Burkewood, un-
known person(s) forcefully entered
the property and took over $3,000
worth of items.
Arrest: On Sept. 8, at the 5000
block of Alger, Branden Jay Grtcza,
22, was found to have a warrant for
window tinting.
Suspicious circumstances: On
Sept. 8, at the 6000 block of Corn-
wall, the reportee stated she found
a hand painted ceramic owl with
a note that said “Owl be damned”
taped to her back porch table.
Drug abuse: On Sept. 8, at the
5000 block of Alger, suspect was
found to have half an oxycontin pill
in his vehicle.
Physical control motor ve-
hicle: On Sept. 8, at the 6000 block
of Monroe, Fidel Carmona, 46, was
found to be under the influence
while in physical control of his ve-
hicle. Suspect test was a .309 BAC.
Arrest: On Sept. 8, at the 7000
block of Kest, Anthony Smith. 22,
was found to have a warrant for
failure to appear.
Petty theft: On Sept. 8, at the
5000 block of Monroe, unknown
suspect(s) entered the victims car
and took a duffle bag with prescrip-
tion medication and misc. clothes.
Arrest: On Sept. 9, at the
5000 block of Summit, Matthew
J. Schuster, 27, was arrested on a
warrant for failure to appear for a
disorderly conduct case.
Theft: On Sept. 9, at the 5000
block of Alexis, unknown person(s)
removed a wedding ring from the
victim prior to her death.
Petty theft: On Sept. 1, at the
6000 block of Roosevelt, a refrig-
erator, dishwasher and stove were
taken from the victim’s rental prop-
erty.
Theft: On Sept. 6, at the 5000
block of Allison, unknown person(s)
took rings estimated at $1,350.
Drug abuse: On Sept. 9, at the
4000 block of Holland Sylvania,
Dominick T. Marty, 21, and Nico-
lette Lynn Baxter, 19, were stopped
and found to be in possession of a
burnt spoon, syringe and 12 oxy-
contin pills.
Arrest: On Sept. 9, at the 4000
block of Holland Sylvania, Todd M.
Roe, 45, was found to have a war-
rant for abatement of nuisances.
Arrest: On Sept. 10, at Erie/
Granville, Jeffrey Everett Miller,
22, was stopped for a traffic viola-
tion and found to have a warrant for
no operator’s license.
Petty theft: On Sept. 7, at the
7000 block of Sylvania, a watch
was taken from the locker room.
Petty theft, criminal damag-
ing: On Sept. 10, at the 6000 block
of Alexa, unknown person(s) dam-
aged the flag pole and took the flag
from a residence.
Drive under influence: On
Sept. 10, at King/Sylvania, Den-
nis A. Lebay, 51, was involved in
a traffic accident and arrested for
OVI.
Safe schools act: On Sept. 10,
at the 6000 block of Monroe, the
victim claimed the suspect punched
him several times in the face.
Burglary: On Sept. 10, at the
5000 block of Little, unknown
person(s) took a check and pre-
scription bottle from the victim’s
residence.
Safe schools act: On Sept. 10,
at Monroe/Silica, the victim was as-
saulted on way home from a school
function.
Arrest: On Sept. 11, at Sugar
Hill, Thomas Keller Jackson, 46,
was stopped for a traffic violation
and found to have warrants for

and grinder with marijuana residue.

the victim and suspect got into an

era was taken from the victim’s
vehicle.
Assault: On Sept. 18, at the
6000 block of Monroe, the suspect
slapped the victim in the face.
Arrest: On Sept. 18, at the 6000
block of Monroe, Jeno D. Deluca,
22, was found to have a warrant for
violation of protection order.
Disorderly conduct: On Sept.
19, at the 5000 block of Eagle
Trace, Benjamin L. Haendiges, 19,
while intoxicated, did present a risk
of physical harm to himself and
caused annoyance by walking down
the street screaming and threatening

Cathryn Comstock Coventry
of Sylvania, Ohio passed away
peacefully at Sunset Village
Residence on Friday, Sept. 24
of natural causes. Born Sept. 11,
1915 in Sylvania, she had just
turned 95. Cathryn graduated
from Burnham High School in
1932. Following graduation, she
attended Ohio State University
as a freshman, then transferred
to Ohio Wesleyan University—
graduating in 1936 with a major
in Business Administration and
a minor in German.
Following college, she
enrolled at the Business
Institute in Detroit, then went
on to teach there, and was even-
tually promoted to department
head. While working there she
met and later married Donald
Coventry. After living briefly
in Michigan, they moved back
to Sylvania, where they raised
their four children in the house
Cathryn grew up in on Monroe
Street, which has since suc-
cumbed to commercial develop-
ment. What remains of the old
homestead is the former barn,
remnants of which are now
Comstock Furniture, the busi-
ness long owned (as Comstock
and Coventry Furniture) by
her and her brother Carl and
her husband Don. She was the
bookkeeper for the business that
has endured to the present time.
Cathryn (Kate to many) was
considered the matriarch of the
family, having survived her
brother Carl Comstock, her hus-
band Donald Coventry and all of
his five siblings and their spous-
es, and many old friends. She
was an avid keeper of the family
history. She spent countless
hours typing and transcribing
family ancestor diaries dating
back to the early 1800’s, which
she later donated to Bowling
Green State University for their
regional historical content.
Cathryn also enjoyed playing
bridge, reading and being part
of a book club, watching tennis,
and baking mouthwatering pies
remembered by all her family.
She also loved to travel and vis-
ited several countries during her
later years through Elder Hostel
trips. For many years she was
historian for the United Church
of Christ in Sylvania, where she
was baptized and remained a
lifelong member.
