Tips for Success on AP Statistics Quizzes & Exams

1. Watch the Example Videos at www.whfreeman.com/tps5e for examples in your textbook with the “Play” symbol. If you’re a
visual learner, simply reading a textbook is probably not enough for you. Even if simply reading is good enough for you, try
watching a video or two. You never know what new insights you might gain!

2. Treat all homework assignments like quizzes/tests – don’t look at the answers in the back of the book unless you absolutely
have to! Buddy up with other students to study, and attend tutorial to ask questions on problems you do not understand.

3. Study and carefully grade your FRAPPY’s. These are meant to mock FR questions on the AP exam and is similar to chapter
exam questions. Pay close attention to the formatting I provide you in class – it’s all in the details!!!!

4. Complete the Chapter AP® Statistics Practice Tests thoroughly! I will be giving you class time to do so, so use this time wisely.

5. Time yourself often (about 2.25 minutes per MC question and about 12 minutes per FR problem).

6. Do NOT memorize formulas! That’s right. Ms. Voinea will provide you with all necessary formulas and tables for every assessment.

7. Become one with your calculator! There’s really no way of getting around it: statistics is a very calculator-heavy course. You
will need to know how to perform tests on your calculator, interpret data, and use graphing functionalities. The more you
practice using your calculator, the faster you can answer questions. You will be expected to use your calculator on every
assessment in this course – so study those Technology Corner sections in your textbook and know all of the commands
efficiently! They will save you a LOT of time and energy, I promise.

8. Check out www.StatTrek.com. This website has free statistics lessons, tutorials, and practice questions.

9. AP Stats Monkey and Khan Academy are also good websites to check out! I’ve linked these for you on our class website.

10. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! J This course is not conceptually difficult, but it does require you to pay close attention to detail and
communicate your answers clearly through writing. Practice, practice, practice and I’ll say it again – IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS!!!
