Solutions to Typical Prompts During the Installation

If information similar to the following is displayed during the installation, the mediation
package contains special counters and the database needs to be expanded.
we need to expand the result table in pmdb database for some special counters,it
will take 10mins~30mins. we strongly suggest that don't do any operation that
related to performance measurement before the expanding operation finished.

Trouble Shooting:
Do not handle this log. The M2000 automatically extends field length in the database on the
server for counters of excessive length. During database expansion, you are not allowed to set
performance measurement parameters or query measurement results for the NE type
corresponding to the mediation package. For details, see section 5.3.4 What Do I Do When
Setting Performance Measurement Parameters or Querying Measurement Results Fails
During Database Expansion for Special Counters? Database expansion takes 10 to 30
minutes, depending on the sizes of result tables.

Exception Processing
If the command output contains error or fail, contact Huawei technical support.

2.2.4 Checking the Installation Result

Step 1 Check whether the mediation is successfully installed.
$ displayVersion –ne DBS3900IBS

Solutions to Typical Prompts During the Upgrade

 Situation A
Information similar to the following is displayed during the upgrade, indicating that you need
to stop OSS services because the M2000 common layer version does not support the dynamic
mediation installation.
2013-06-29 19:34:07... The patch version isn't hot patch, Please run stop_svc to
stop OSS services and try again!

Troubleshooting:
Stop the M2000 services by referring to section "5.2.3 How Do I Stop the M2000
Services?"Then, run the commands in Step 1 again. After the commands are executed
successfully, restart M2000 services by referring to section "5.2.2 How Do I Start the M2000
Services?" .
 SituationB
Information similar to the following is displayed during the upgrade, indicating that the
mediation package contains special counters and the database needs to be expanded.
we need to expand the result table in pmdb database for some special counters,it
will take 10mins~30mins.
we strongly suggest that don't do any operation that related to performance
measurement before the expanding operation finished.

Troubleshooting:
Do not handle this log. The M2000 automatically extends field length in the database on the
server for counters of excessive length. During database expansion, you are not allowed to set
performance measurement parameters or query measurement results for the NE type
corresponding to the mediation package. For details, see section "5.3.4 What Do I Do When
Setting Performance Measurement Parameters or Querying Measurement Results Fails
During Database Expansion for Special Counters?" . Database expansion takes 10 to 30
minutes, depending on the sizes of result tables.

Exception Processing
If the command output contains error or fail, contact Huawei technical support.

3.2.4 Checking the Upgrade Result

Step 1 Check whether the mediation is successfully upgraded.

5.2.3 How Do I Stop the M2000 Services?

Question
How do I stop the M2000 services during the mediation installation?

Answer

Single-Server System
Step 1 Log in to the M2000 server as user ossuser. Then, run the following commands to stop the
M2000 services.
$ . /opt/oss/server/svc_profile.sh
$ stop_svc

There is a space between "." and "/".

Step 2 Run the following command to check whether any M2000 service is running:
$ svc_ps

 If there is no command output, all the M2000 services are stopped. End the operation.
 If any information is displayed, some M2000 services are still running. Go to Step 3.
Step 3 If the stop_svc command runs for a long time, for example, 40 minutes, you can open another
SSH terminal and run the following commands to forcibly stop the M2000 services.
$ . /opt/oss/server/svc_profile.sh
$ kill_svc

There is a space between "." and "/".

Run the svc_ps command again to check whether any M2000 service is running. If some
M2000 services are still running, run the kill_svc command again until all M2000 services are
stopped.

 Do not run the kill_svc command before running the stop_svc command. If you directly
run the kill_svc command, the platform monitoring process may automatically start the
M2000 services.
 Running the kill_svc command may lead to severe consequences. Use this command
with caution.

Sun-based SLS System

Prerequisites:
 You have logged in to the master server and each slave server as user ossuser by using
the logical IP address of the server.
 The PC running the M2000 client communicates with the M2000 server properly.
Context
The following part of this section describes the methods of starting the M2000 services when
the N, N:1, and N:2 redundancy solutions are used. Start the M2000 services based on the
actual redundancy solution.
If the N redundancy solution is used, perform the following steps to start the M2000 services:
Step 1 Run the following commands on any server (master server or slave server) to stop the M2000
daemon process:
$ . /opt/oss/server/svc_profile.sh
$ stop_svc

There is a space between "." and "/".

Step 2 Run the following commands on the master server and all slave servers to stop the M2000
services:
$ svc_ps

 If no information is displayed, the M2000 services have been stopped.

 If any information is displayed, run the following command to forcibly stop the M2000
services.
$ kill_svc

----End

If the N:1 or N:2 redundancy solution is used, perform the following steps to start the M2000
services by using the VCS GUI:
This section uses the N:1 solution (N = 3) as an example.

 When using the VCS GUI to stop the M2000 services, ensure that the VCS service has started.
 You can run the hastatus -summary command on any server to check whether the VCS service is
started. If all the values in the State column are RUNNING in the command output, the VCS
service has started.
 If the VCS service is not started, you can run the hastart command on each server to start the VCS
service. After the service is started, it will automatically start the resources of all resource groups,
which takes about 30 minutes.

Step 1 Log in to the Cluster Manager as user admin from the PC. For detailed operations, see
M2000 SLS System Commissioning Guide (V890&E4900, S10).
Step 2 Freeze the Veritas Cluster resource groups.
1. In the navigation tree of the Cluster Explorer window, right-click the resource group you
want to freeze and choose Freeze > Persistent from the shortcut menu, as shown in

5.3 Questions during Installation and Upgrade

5.3.1 How Do I Deal With the Prompt Indicating that I Need to
Stop the OSS Service During Mediation Installation?
Question
What do I do when a prompt similar to the following is displayed during mediation
installation, indicating that I need to stop the OSS service?
2013-05-07 13:44:45... The sysd service is running, please perform stop_svc command
to stop it first!

Answer
M2000 V200R008C03 or a later version supports dynamic mediation installation. For
versions earlier than M2000 V200R008C03, you have to stop the M2000 services before
installing the mediation. For details about how to stop the M2000 services, see section "5.2.3

5.3.2 How Do I Deal With the Prompt Indicating that the Target
Mediation Has Been Installed During Mediation Installation?
Question
What do I do when a prompt similar to the following is displayed during mediation
installation?
...has been installed! Please uninstall it at first.

Answer
The mediation whose version number is the same as that of the previously installed mediation
cannot be installed again. In addition, if the value of NeVersion in NeVersion.def of a new
mediation is the same as that of the installed mediation, the new mediation also cannot be
installed. You have to uninstall the previously installed mediation.

5.3.3 How Do I Deal With the Prompt Indicating that Another

User Is Installing a Mediation During the Installation?
Question
What do I do when the following prompt is displayed?
... Another one is installing match version, please wait and try again later!

Answer
Only one user is allowed to install, upgrade, or uninstall a mediation at a time. You can
perform these operations when other users have logged out.

5.3.4 What Do I Do When Setting Performance Measurement

Parameters or Querying Measurement Results Fails During
Database Expansion for Special Counters?
Question
What do I do when do I when setting performance measurement parameters or querying
measurement results fails during database expansion for special counters?

Answer
Result tables in the database are used when you set performance measurement parameters or
query measurement results during database expansion. However, the width of the columns
containing special counters in result tables changes. Therefore, operations such as setting
performance measurement parameters and querying measurement results will fail during
database expansion. In addition, you cannot set performance measurement parameters or
query measurement results for NEs of the same type corresponding to the mediation package
because NEs of the same type share result tables.

5.3.5 How Do I Navigate to the Directory That Contains Special

Characters such as Spaces?
Question
You need to enter the directory of the mediation to uninstall the mediation of NEs such as
CBTS3606. When you run the command:
$ cd /opt/oss/server/med/DBS3900IBSNE/DBS3900IBS V100R001C02SPC200

The message "Nosuch file or directory" is displayed. How do I enter the directory whose
directory path contains special characters such as spaces?

Answer
For the shell command, the parameters are separated by spaces. If the previously mentioned
path is entered, the character string before the first space is automatically set as the path.
However, this path does not exist. As a result, an error occurs.
You need to enclose the directory path that contains special characters such as spaces with
double quotations. For example:
 cd /opt/oss/server/med/DBS3900IBSNE/"DBS3900IBS V100R001C02SPC200"
 cd "/opt/oss/server/med/DBS3900IBSNE/DBS3900IBS V100R001C02SPC200"

5.3.6 Installing the Mediation Fails. How to Restore the M2000 to

the Normal Mode When It Is in the Restricted Mode?
Question
During the dynamic installation of the mediation, the client is in the restrictive mode. If any
exception occurs during the mediation installation or the mediation installation is manually
stopped, the M2000 remains in the restrictive mode. In this case, how to restore the M2000 to
the normal mode?

Answer
Step 1 Log in to the M2000 server as user ossuser in SSH mode.
Step 2 Set environment variables.
$ . /opt/oss/server/svc_profile.sh

The command starts with ".", and a space exists between "." and "/".

Step 3 Run the following command to exit the restricted mode:

5.3.7 What Do I Do When a Mediation Software Package Does

Not Have a Signature?
Problem Description
Before mediation installation or upgrade, the M2000 checks whether the mediation
installation package has a signature. If the package does not have a signature, the M2000
displays a message similar to the following, requesting the user to determine whether to
proceed with the installation or upgrade.
security warning: Maybe the
iManagerM2000_DBS3900IBS_MATCH_ENG_V100R001C02SPC200_pkg.tar package does not
support signature, or signature file missed. Are you sure to continue? [y/n]

Answer
All mediation software packages for M2000 versions earlier than V200R011 do not have a
signature. Check whether the mediation installation package is for an M2000 version earlier
than V200R011. If the package is for an M2000 version earlier than V200R011, ignore the
message, and proceed with the installation or upgrade. If the mediation is for M2000
V200R011 or later versions, the mediation software package must have a signature. In this
case, check whether the package is obtained from a legal source.

5.3.8 What Do I Do When a Mediation Software Package Fails to

Pass the Signature Verification?
Question
If a mediation installation package has a signature, the system checks whether the package has
been modified before mediation installation or upgrade. If the package has been modified,
information similar to the following is displayed.
security warning: Verify Mediation Software Failed, the

5.4 Operations after Installation and Upgrade

5.4.1 How Do I Download the NE Mediation Files for a Newly
Installed Mediation?
Question
After a mediation is installed, how do I download the NE mediation files for the newly
installed mediation to the client?

Answer
If the NE version stored on the M2000 client is inconsistent with that stored on the M2000
server, you can manually download the NE mediation files to the M2000 client. This ensures
the NE version consistency on the M2000 client and server. The mediation files consist of
files such as online help files and the macro files of NEs. The macro file is a command set
containing all commands defined by NEs. Through the macro file, you can know the
commands supported by this NE version and the parameters used by the corresponding NEs.
Step 1 Restart the M2000 client.
Step 2 Choose Help > Download NE Files (Traditional style) or System Settings > System
>Download NE Files (Application style).
Step 3 The Download NE Files dialog box is displayed.
Step 4 If a new NE mediation file is available, a message will be displayed prompting to download
the new NE file.

If no new file is available, the progress dialog box is closed automatically.

Step 5 Select the required NE types.

Step 6 Click Yes.
The download progress is displayed in the Download Progress dialog box.
Step 7 When the progress reaches 100%, click OK.

5.4.2 How Do I Update NE Versions Manually After the

Mediations of BSC, CBSC/RAC, and CBTS/RAU Are Installed?
Question
For BSCs, CBSCs/RACs, and CBTSs/RAUs, the M2000 does not automatically update the
NE versions after mediations installation. Therefore, after the mediation for such an NE is
installed, you have to manually change the NEs versions on the M2000 client and synchronize
the corresponding configuration data.

failure.
 If you do not need to manage the disconnected cBTSs on the M2000, run the RMV BTS
command to delete them and add these cBTSs after the synchronization is complete.
 If you need to manage the disconnected BTSs on the M2000, you must connect these
cBTSs to the server before the synchronization.

Mediation Operation Guide (Using Commands) FAQFAQ

Answer
This problem may be caused by an error occurred during database expansion. If this problem
occurs, check the database expansion status and contact Huawei technical support. You can
check the database expansion status using either of the following methods:
 Check the upgrade_pmresulttable.log file in the /opt/oss/server/var/logs/mediation
directory. If the database expansion is complete, the file contains logs similar to the
following:
NE type 1076 performed end ! Modify database result table success, please run full
backup task in clent to make sure increment backup work well. Wed Dec 22 16:56:58
CST 2012... end to upgrade pm resulte table ...
 Perform the following steps to check whether the database expansion process is
terminated.
Step 1 Log in to the M2000 server as user ossuser.
Step 2 Run the following command to set environment variables.
$ . /opt/oss/server/svc_profile.sh

The command starts with ".", and a space exists between "." and "/".

Step 3 Run the following command to query process number.

$ ps -ef | grep upgrade_pmresulttable.sh | grep -v grep

If the database expansion process is running, information similar to the following is

displayed:
Ossuser 8358 1 0 16:48:46 pts/10 0:00 /bin/bash
/opt/oss/server/bin/upgrade_pmresulttable.sh 1076

 The special counter function is used to expand the fields containing special counters in result tables
after a mediation is installed. If the reported counter values of some NEs exceed the specified range
from – 999,999,999.999 to 999,999,999.999 in the M2000 database, this function ensures that the
performance results are stored correctly. If this function is unavailable, the reported counter values
beyond the specified range are displayed as – 999,999,999.999 or 999,999,999.999 on the M2000.
 Enabling the special counter function takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the existing
data. To reduce the duration, you are advised to enable the special counter function after the
mediation for a certain NE type is installed.
