CONTEXT
The different tracking in the Technical Vocational and Livelihood strand in the Senior High
School in Alubijid Misamis Oriental aims to equip students with necessary skills and competence
anticipating that they would be able to work after graduation.
In their Junior High School, an exploratory module was given to them. And by the time
they reach their senior high, they were already expose on the core competencies of their chosen
strand. Then these Grade 12 Senior High School students have to undergo work immersion related
to their selected academic track or their selected vocational course. The immersion trains students
and strengthen their skill or expertise for their work in the future. It is part of the K-12 program
which prepares students to work in companies. (Mindanao Times, 2018)
Under Deped Order No. 30, series of 2017 released on June 5, the guide lines specify that
the said work immersion will enable students to become familiar with the work place, experience
work place simulation and ap ply their competencies in areas of specialization. The said work
immersion activity can range from 80 to 320 hours.

Experience is considered to be one’s life greatest teacher. As a learner, this will be a take
off point in their personal career path and future jobs.

Feedback from personal account of students who underwent work immersion have been
pouring out in social media in relation to the logistical needs that hinders their full and complete
performance at their workplace. According to SEAMEO Innotech Research Update, these are
some of the challenges encountered by K-12 model school. 1. Transportation expenses of students
who are undergoing their work immersion programs 2. Accommodation expenses of students who
need to stay near their workplaces for their job immersion purposes (“Monitoring of the Philippine
Department of Education Model Senior High School Program”).

In this study, the researchers would like to know if:

 The opening of the TVL track in ANHCS is aligned with what the community needs.
 The opening of the TVL track corresponds with what the company in the municipality
needs.
The focus of this study is on the alignment of the TVL tracks and what the community needs.
This study does not aim to investigate the quality of SHS graduates of ANCHS.
RATIONALE

Our intention with this action research project is to contribute to the school administration
who offered a TVL track. This study will shed light about the importance of aligning the schools
offering to the job opportunity found in the community. This will ensure that the student will be
able to work right after they graduate.
Project JobsFit is the latest labor market study of the Department of Labor and Employment
that highlights the in-demand and hard-to-fill occupations of the key industries that are projected
to be the main source of employment growth in the country for the next seven years. The study is
a product of extensive environmental scanning and consultation with key stakeholders nationwide(
http://www.ble.dole.gov.ph/index.php/web-pages/120-jobsfit ).
This study is relevant for the students, because they will provided learning environment
where they can undergo training and apply the skills in their actual work environment and be
absorbed in the industries, companies in their own locality after their Work Immersion. The
students of today lays the foundation stone of future society. The society should give students the
love and encouragement due to them, and see that their studies are not unduly hampered
(Bangizwe-Nkashaka Sibuyi, 2016)
This action research project is also pertinent for the educational institution for which we
work, because it will lead teachers of the TVL department to reflect on the importance of including
locally based companies in their curriculum while developing the skills of the students.
