Comparative Analysis of Position Paper between Against Abortion and Abortion should be

Legalized in the Philippines

Here are the two selected Position Paper with the topic regarding to abortion. The

first position paper is entitled “Against Abortion” written by Macie Brand and the second

position paper is “Abortion should be legalized in the Philippines” by The Barefoot Scholar.

The two selected position paper are related with abortion but each has their own opinion

and perception.

The first position paper is against the idea of abortion. It starts with an introduction

which states that there are laws that protected the rights of the unborn child forbidding the

practice of abortion. Even though it is evident that it is already legalized in European

countries, it is still committing a crime, an immoral killing of an innocent being not just in the

society but in God’s eyes and disobeying one of his ten commandments. In addition, it also

has harmful effects when doing self-induced abortion, you’re a putting your life at risk.

Unwanted pregnancies is evident in our country and the population keeps on growing but

abortion isn’t the right solution for the problem. In this paper, it clearly shows how the

author strongly disagree with the legalization of abortion in our country. Because, she

believes and wants to live the way it is stated in the bible.

In the second position paper it focuses on the legalization of abortion in our country.

It has introduction, objectives and counter arguments. The introduction states that some

nations, particularly those of the west have legalized it, to ensure that only proven to be

safe procedure are used, and also an answer to such crimes as rapes and its likes. Curiously,

these western nations are almost always more advanced economically that the countries

that have a more conservative stance such as our own country, the Philippines. The author

also said that what keeps our government to not fully implement the legalization of this,

which our rule of law is governed by secular standards and not religious standards so

whatever the church may say about this or they are against to it is nonsense because, the

decision is still in the hands of the legislators. In this paper, it shows that the author wants

abortion to be legalized in our country. It also aims at proving that once legalized, abortion

is not so damaging to the Filipino psyche as currently thought, and will show how we, as a

people can take control of our own destiny with liberated and educated minds, free from

taboo and prejudice that has kept us in the dark for generations.

In conclusion, these two chosen position paper have their own beliefs, stand and

opinions and they evidently defended their stand on a particular matter. Although there are

no international conflicts ever recorded that has been laid by this issue, there has been two

sides in the Philippines, one trying to prove that abortion may be needed, in fact may be

necessary for a developing country, the other side speaks of unbelievable repulsions to

humanity abortion is capable of once it is legalized.
